Great! So I have had a subordinate entering all the relevant data into our system to make the right business decisions and you have intentionally withheld critical data? Security, please escort this man from the building.

I stop sending the report because the data being collected is stale and outdated. It is no longer being collected or entered by the department responsible for it. So I stop wasting company resources running and sending reports that have absolutely no value to the company.

I'm not just randomly stopping reports from running. I didn't mean to give that impression. There's a reason for it. The fact that management didn't know that the report was missing for months on end is the point of information overload.

I agree 100%. Especially people at work who think they need 50 reports in their inbox every morning. There's no way they can look at all of those reports and make an intelligent decision. Every once-and-a while I'll stop sending a report.

Five months later, "hey I didn't get Report X today, can you resend it ASAP. It is critical that I see that report every day"
Me: "You haven't received that report in several months. I also think you don't know what "critical" means."

There's a difference between managing information properly, and saying that you like to have lots of information available. If you can't differentiate between the two, you're likely just like my coworker.

Not true. You still have to have a subscription with a video provider or Internet provider who is paying ESPN for access to ESPN3. If you don't have to sign in, that means that your ISP is paying ESPN. ESPN has whitelisted your IP address so you don't need to sign in.

A service based economy cannot survive in the long run. You must create/produce something of value. A service economy will run out of money eventually. Every county must produce for themselves as well as import/export. Finding a healthy balance is difficult.

The U.S. must also become more competitive on corporate taxes. We need to be smart about allowing both personal and corporate money to flow into the country with minimal tax because that money was already taxed where it was "earned". That allows more investment and spending in the US.

As a sports fan I don't see how this is a good deal. Right now I can watch all of ESPN's content that isn't air on TV with the ESPN app. If Amazon buys the streaming rights I will have to pay an extra fee to Amazon to watch it. I also will have to keep paying ESPN indirectly through my cable company because Amazon isn't trying to buy the rights to the better games that are aired on TV. So to keep seeing everything I watch now I will end up paying both companies.

In order to watch sports on the ESPN app you have to have service with a provider. So nothing would change theoretically. I know that the ESPN app asks me to login to my provider periodically.

  17. No, Internet access is not a necessity.

In this day and age you're a fool if you honestly believe that.

Work would be harder. That's where I first used it and found it very useful. Communication would slow down. People would have to actually talk to each other about what they had for lunch. Gossip will have to go back to audio as you won't be able to talk about someone when they're right there in front of you. No more cat videos. No more cat videos!

Work (paid work) provides Internet access. Personal life: not required.

  18. Cable/satellite is a choice, it's not required.

Satellite TV is a choice. But cable TV often isn't, as cable ISPs and fiber ISPs in the United States tend to tie it with their home Internet service, charging less per month for TV and Internet than for Internet alone. Or is home Internet service itself not a necessity to find and keep a job that pays a living wage in the United States?

Having a TV is a choice. Having Internet access is a choice. Having a phone is a choice. They are "wants" and not "needs".

No, Internet access is not a necessity.

  19. Socialism is taking your money against your will and shoving something down your throat that you never asked for.

You mean like paying five dollars a month for a sports channel you don't watch?

Show me where the government is taking $5 a month for this service. Cable/satellite is a choice, it's not required.

I don't like channel bundling either. But don't confuse private enterprise with government mandates.

  20. A guy looked at my Corvette the other day and said I wonder how many people could have been fed for the money that sports car cost.

I replied I am not sure, it fed a lot of families in Bowling Green, Kentucky who built it, it fed the people who make the tires, it fed the people who made the components that went into it, it fed the people in the copper mine who mined the copper for the wires, it fed people in Decatur IL. at Caterpillar who make the trucks that haul the copper ore. It fed the trucking people who hauled it from the plant to the dealer and fed the people working at the dealership and their families. BUT,... I have to admit, I guess I really don't know how many people it fed.

That is the difference between capitalism and welfare mentality. When you buy something, you put money in people's pockets, and give them dignity for their skills.

When you give someone something for nothing, you rob them of their dignity and self worth.

Capitalism is freely giving your money in exchange for something of value.

Socialism is taking your money against your will and shoving something down your throat that you never asked for.

In the last 5-10 years look at the number of local TV stations that changed their status from "must carry" to "retransmission consent".

Does the practice of bundling channels contribute to the growing cost? Would it be cheaper to have a la carte?

There are so many reasons why these prices have increased in this industry. I don't know that it's fair to pin it on one group.
