Because, each tile needs to be just the right shape and size; if scraping them with some foam can damage them enough for it to matter, then you're not going to be able to field-replace them.
Perhaps some form of cover over the tiles, which can be retracted when it's time to re-enter; hell, just paint them over with something that's going to solidify into a nice, thick shell, and that will burn away quickly, and you're probably half way there.
I'm aware that CLAMP is several females, but use them only as an example of a rather easy-to-identify anime/manga sub-style.
Hell, take a look at Yu Watase's Fushigi Yuugi; chock full of cute little girls in revealing school uniforms, an evil chick who's magic centers around 'hot lusty sexxxx to achieve inner peace and healing,' rape as a method of dominance and control, yet the entire story is a hopeful and magical 'magic girl' story. And she's a female artist.
Oh, and it's just oozing with bishonen prettyboys who strip to their skivvies at a moment's notice, and fall all over each other to be the best damn boyfriend they could ever possibly be.
Every 'how to draw manga' type book I've ever read simply points out that large, exaggerated curves are more visually appealing than the alternative; it's a visual medium, so you exagerate things visually.
Or do you think that every artist who draws typical gravity-defying 'anime hair' was mocked as a child for having the traditional haircut? Or that the males who draw the seven foot, three inch wide 'CLAMP' style men have eating disorders? Or the swords that would break your arms off, should you ever actually try to swing them, were failed fencing students?
Sometimes, just sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar, and sometimes, just sometimes, the typical attributes of a visual art form are simply the typical attributes of a visual art form.
Zion "elders" (I believe they use that term at some point)
Really? There was some Nazi (or was it Soviet?) propeganda released called 'The Secret Protocols of the Elders of Zion' or something similar, which detailed how the Jewish supposedly were really running the world... I wonder....
Lock-in: What happens when the guys to whom you're outsourcing suck? Even worse, what happens when you've been happy for two years, THEN they start to suck? Switching costs are non-trivial. There was an article on how, of Australian (I think) companies outsourcing their programming, 80% planned to continue, but all of those planned to renegotiate the contract. Growing pains for these relationships exist, and that's a cost, too
True story. Outsource an app to a Russian or somesuch company for the conversion from Solaris to Linux. Something Eastern European. Anywho, they handed us back a steaming pile of crap that barely compiled. But they kept a copy for themselves. Then, for the next few months, as they kept using it internally, they'd call us up to lodge bug reports!
Grading systems SHOULD be subjective in nature. It's an argument of a professor trying to say how good a student is in that particular subject.
The second sentence contradicts the first.
If the student is being graded against the other students, then aye; you take the average score, call that a 'C' and grade appropriately; if the class average is 80%, then 80% is a C, 90% is a B, and 100% is an A. If the class average is 30%, then....
If, on the other hand, the students are being graded against a set standard; i.e. 'By the end of course X, the student should be able to do this, this, that and the other' then you grade to that; if they can do this, this and that, but not the other, 75%.
Err..umm..you are aware that you can, in fact, get CDs which are dts encoded, yes? So long as your CD player has a digital out, they play quite nicely.
If you have ever tried to breast feed a baby you would know that even that needs to be learned.
Speaking as a parent of three children, I'll point out that suckling is, in fact, an instinctive action. Now, the parent often isn't up to the task at first, and you do get some babies that won't latch properly, or the mommy has inverted nipples or the like, and therefore a good flow can't develop, but in general, it's instinctive.
Ever watch somebody pick up a newborn and snuggle it, and the newborn starts rooting, and will latch on to the first patch of bare skin it finds? Or how if you stick the tip of your pinkie finger on it's lip, it'll try to latch and suckle?
You are trying to make a jump in logic from "there are physical differences between the sexes" to "there must then be mental differences between the sexes".
True, but you cannot discount the theory. After all, there are chemical and hormonal differences, and chemicals and hormones rule the brain. All I'm saying is that you can't discount the theory, either. It's not 'absurd,' just unproven either way, and therefore not to be acted upon in the regular course of things.
but more probably due to childhood experiences.
Definately. I thought I said something to that effect myself, but may very well have edited it out. Or just been thinking about saying it. Or something. But, as far as I'm concerned, social/cultural affects are far more deep/lasting/debilitating than physical ones.:-)
"Girls do not do well at math" are just about as absurd a thing as I have read
Out of curiosity, why is that absurd? aren't there a few scientific studies showing that male and female brains are, in fact, wired differently, and some of those differences include males being more oriented to numbers and math, with females being more oriented to language/symbology?
Is it 'absurd' to say that 'men do not do well at breast feeding?' Is it 'absurd' to say that the average female probably doesn't do as well as the average male in heavy-lifting tasks? Is it 'absurd' to actually consider the idea that, yes, there might just be some physical/physiological differences? Not superiorities, not deficiencies, but differences?
True story; a female firefighter sued the gov't of one of our provinces because she wanted to be a forest-fire fighter, but couldn't complete the physical requirements. Therefore, she sued them for gender discrimination. One of the tests, as I recall, was the ability to carry a 220 pound load for a mile, or some such, and she couldn't do it. Well, hell, I hope she's not the firefighter I'm working with when I get wounded and fall over, because it would, apparently, be 'sexist' to want her to carry me out.
I find that a lot of computer people, hell, a lot of intelligent people in general, simply don't 'take' well to the typical rote-learning academic system commonly in use today.
There was a small company, made speakers. Damn good ones, too.
One day, Official Government Official shows up, and says 'I can't help but notice that you don't have any handicapped people. That's illegal.
Owner says 'Oh, well, no handicapped people have applied for jobs, you see.'
Does some checking, and when OGO shows back up, owner says 'Hey, I did some checking, and there simply aren't any handicapped people within 100 kilometers looking for work at the moment.'
OGO says 'That's beside the point; hire at least three handicapped people, or lose your permits.'
As I recall, the company then proceeded to move to the states.
Yes, affirmative action taken to the quota extreme simply turns into reverse racisim; you're specifically being hired or not hired because of your race/gender/other criteria, rather than merit/skill/need.
Negative. You just don't get most of the power of the unit; but you can still use it as a 'digital VCR;' tell it to record such and such a channel at such and such a time, and watch it go.
What you *can't* tell it to do at that point is 'record all new episodes of Law and Order, no matter what channel they're on' and 'I really really like Law and Order, so if there's free space/time, record similar things' and the like.
SMS does NOT support anything but Windows 2000 or Windows XP - period. SMS is NOT an option.
What the FUCK? You must be thinking of Windows 2000's built in software distribution; SMS 2.0 doesn't support 2K or XP properly until you get SPs 2 and 3 installed. But it sure as hell does support the 9x series.

Go home, plug into cable/DSL. Get infected. VPN in to Microsoft. Ooops.
Err..umm..you are aware that you can, in fact, get CDs which are dts encoded, yes? So long as your CD player has a digital out, they play quite nicely.
http://www.digitaleyes.net/dtscd.cfm if you'd care to purchase some.
Aye, I would rather have 'well-written, tested and peer-reviewed software' such as z/os, windriver vx, qnx, and so on.
What I DON'T want is a brain surgery robot that suddenly starts yelling 'Hacked by chinese! Hackers LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE noodlez!'
Solaris is a great OS, because it assumes that you know exactly what you're doing, and lets you do it.
Oh, and ensure that your /tmp directory NEVER fills up.

"The only 'intuitive interface' is the nipple. EVERYTHING else is learned."
Ransom Love, shall we say, loves to ransom?

You're not paying a subscription to record TV.
You're paying a subscription for a well-updated TV guide, and software updates.
You need never give TiVo any money other than to buy the hardware; if, however, you want the value added services, you pays for them.
Hey, it's better than just auto-bundelling the price into the cost of the unit, aye?
I've always believed that this is the only fair way to do it; a flat tax with ZERO exemptions, and there you go.

I'm just as happy with 'open link in new browser window;' hell, I'd hate 'tabbed browsing.'
2: Nah, I refer to Microsoft bashing.
3: I know, it's a real drag. I just got finished updating/altering my sig and what not.
