The really scary thing here is that this politician is real, and is actually getting votes. It's one thing when some right-wing wacko (in your home country or abroad) makes scary statements in an attempt to get attention; it's quite another when that wacko (and I feel justified in calling these people wackos) starts to get votes
You mean like Pat Buchanan? Scary stuff indeed!:-)
My idea is to cut all military spending and reallocate it to the space program. If we do that we could probably have a thriving colony on Mars by Jan 1, 2000.:-)
What this dog really needs is some nice fake dog fur instead of a silver plastic body. Believe me, it will make a big difference to kids. They'll like playing with the "doggie" instead of the "robot doggie."
I agree w/ not supporting sendmail. What a piece of junk. Why anyone would want to sponsor it is beyond me. IMO, sendmail represents some of the WORST parts of unix -- difficult configuration, poor design. As for Postfix, I think it has some sort of strange license which might disqualify it as being considered 'free' software.
Instead of sendmail, they should sponsor KDE or Gnome (or both!) or how about a project to modernize printing on Unix.
Maybe Debian should concentrate on getting Debian Linux released first! It would be nice to have a release more often then once in every year and a half!
(I am also a FreeBSD user.. I don't want Debian dragging FreeBSD into slow releases either)
Haha could you guys be any more paranoid? Slashdot should be renamed "ChinaWatch" or something. Every day I log on here to find yet another article complaining about China. Maybe Rob is a secret member of that Falun Gong faith healing organization.:-)
Now that that is out of the way.. I think this is excellent news because it will mean more funding for our space program! Our irrational paranoia does have it's advantages! Do you think we would have ever gone to the moon if it wasn't for Russia?
Agreed. I go as far as to say that usenet is a complete waste of time (in addition, there are no decent newsreaders for linux-- so it is hard to read even if you wanted to). Any forum that has a massive amount of traffic seems to turn into a garbage dump without proper moderation... an example of this is the Yahoo message posting areas - almost as bad as usenet!
PS: Don't tell me tin, trn, pine, emacs, Netscape are good newsreaders. Get real.
If software wasn't so expensive people wouldn't need to pirate it. The software publishing industry has only themselves to blame for this problem. I'm going to pay $499 for MS office? yeah, right.. I'm going to pay $45-50 for a game I'll play two days then put on the shelf to collect dust? yeah, right...
The "booming economy" may be helping rich people but it isn't doing a thing for the average working person.
Who chose ESR to be "spokesperson for the linux community" ?? I sure didn't. As a Linux user I have no desire whatsoever to be associated with this gun-toting right-wing lunatic.
The spokesperson for Linux should be someone who advocates it on technical merits, and not by shoving politics down everyone's throat. Perhaps we should have a vote for an 'official linux spokesperson?'
There is L O T S of room for L O T S of garbage on this planet - more than we will ever need
As a demonstration of earth's infinite capacity to store garbage, perhaps we should move our dump to your back yard. There should be L O T S of room there!
Sound card? Why do you need a sound card to run a simple text based install?!? You are able to compile the latest Mozilla build but you can't handle a kernel? Come on.. it's not that difficult.

I also removed RealPlayer from my machine a few days ago, because it kept crashing, and every time it crashed it took netscape down with it (of course this could be a netscape problem). Now I'm using Windows Media Player with Netscape and while it is not wonderful, at least it works. I also think there is a version of Windows Media Player that runs on linux (not joking).
Many of the yahoo message boards are basically useless due to all the flames, spam, and idiocy. I'd be very happy if they payed someone do go through and just delete all that crap so a person trying to read something or learn something can. Also, they should had support for threading so you know what is in reply to what.
Because the graphics are bad enough to hurt one's eyes. Looking back on those old DOS games it is amazing that we were able to play any of them, they are so blocky and hard to undertstand what you're looking at.
These conspiracy nuts / militia people are far more scary than the "evil government" that they claim to want to protect us from. I think it is just this Y2K thing that is causing their numbers to grow... After that is passed hopefully they will put away their John Birch Society membership cards and get on with their lives... or perhaps check into the local mental institution.
No one said to have another T1 line. Just get an additional (slower) connection, for emergency backup only.
Offshore bank accounts?? LOL. What are you, a drug dealer?

Hmm.. the WTO is telling us what to do?? Odd, I don't recall voting anyone into the WTO.

This is in the BSD section! See the red coloring..?
Right on man.. if I had a moderator point I'd give it to you. hehe

Does anyone have a mirror for this? My download is stuck on 1%

Why did you deliberately block links from Slashdot, HNN, and any other site who criticized you during the closure of Packetstorm?

Is this under the GPL or BSD license or something else?
I was shocked to see such a well-researched and fact checked article on slashdot!! Great work!
