    certainly doesn't sound to me like concern over inspection so much as the ability to add surveillance. Control over information isn't exactly a goal you can label "open."

    You're equating hard-won esoteric knowledge with common sense. Common sense as a concept is bankrupt - it doesn't exist in isolation, it is simply learned behavior which is not in any way universal. Dragging the term out derisively is a merely a rhetorical crutch.

    you don't need to worry about allocating and deallocating the references, I would imagine. Just because you hold the reference doesn't mean the object data is loaded into memory. That's handled transparently for you.

    So you get the reference by creating the object. Deallocation is like deleting. It's one level higher.

    I should note I'm guessing, I didn't read the article. Seems logical, though.

    So there's something wrong with a dude scratching an itch and having a little fun with it? There was a time when Linux was a niche system that had no real purpose aside from the fun of making it. That seems to have worked out well.

    In any case, there are interesting concepts in here that deserved to be explored, and the best way to explore programming concepts is the program them.

    Wow, not one of these posts has even the glimmer of a valid complaint that I can bother to rebut. It's all just whining with no coherent reasoning behind it. I'm amazed. A new low.

    I knew you free entertainment types felt entitled, but bitching about a premium content deal for something that has quite a bit of expense to deliver is kind of shocking. I guess the next story will be a complaint that there are websites that charge fees for membership? I dunno. It's hard to say where this attitude logically leads because there's no logic behind it.

    Are you trying to imply that since a given technology works best for embedded software, it should be used for everything? That's the whole "I have one tool in my toolbox" mentality that makes me stay away from "C IS MY GOD" people.
