The Bush administration is not at fault. Republicans want to GIVE you back your rights. That's what they always say -- big government is bad government. It's those damn democrats who are curtailing your liberties... I mean Ashcroft was hired only thanks to a strong effort by the democrats, right? Man, this is getting confusing!
Not what I'd have predicted.

The way I figure it, the nations with the SMALLEST IT sectors would have the least piracy. Think about it: countries like Sudan and Nigeria... who's gonna be pirating Windows XP when they don't have a computer to run it on?
Rather than spending millions on 1 guy who doesn't know much about technology, wouldn't the company be better off hiring a few hundred low to mid level tech people? No wonder all these companies are going bankrupt.
My ISP blocks ports, and does not allow me to run servers (email/web/irc/anything) of any kind. If most ISP users are not allowed to run ANY servers, why should we care if they put additional restrictions on running servers?
Imagine how efficient it would be if we all had to pay royalties every time we made a fire, or used a wheel. By the way, does anyone wonder what would happen if the government taxed the bible (which is in public domain)? I think it could get a lot of people angry.
Every time I get a piece of spam, I put the email
address of the spammer on this website. Then, when
the spammers' email-collecting programs hit my page,
the spammers' addresses get into their own databases!
The hunters become the hunted! If others would do the same, no one would ever dare spam a geek ever again.
and kids are more excited, it does not necessarily mean that they are learning any more than they were before. Wouldn't the money be better spent if Maine used it to
attract more/better teachers with higher salaries?
A while back a couple of brothers
managed to get PhDs in physics by typing up gibberish with buzz words. Anyone else think this happened here? I mean, the article says "sometimes competitors should work together for a while" and Slashdot is overcome with astonishment. You could say the same thing about marathons, biking, politics, office culture, zoology, evolution, basically anything with multiple competitors. Nothing new here, move a long.
I mean, it's shorter, often cheaper and has more of a presence. Not only that, but it's STANDARD. Anyone, anywhere, who has used a computer knows.com. How many know.uk.co? It just doesn't look right. Why pay more for a more complex address?

My understanding is that, in the UK, people are guilty until proven innocent. If that's true, then Margret Thatcher stole the domain england.uk! I demand it back.
CowboyNeal: Wow an interview with a famous guy! Let's post it
CmdrTco: But the article is short and doesn't give any insights into anything
CowboyNeal: Whatever, let's post the story and get drunk
This isn't a troll, I really think this must have happened.
You know why the advanced alien races never landed on Earth? They decided to save billions of dollars, scrap the space program, and put the money into programs to eliminate poverty and hunger. Seriously, what do people expect to find up there? If you're just going to use the "exploration and adventure" argument, you might as well look to the oceans - they're closer and full of unknown life.
We saw something similar happen with cable stations. As channels begin to mature, they will try to go to the widest possible audience. Remember TNN? (The Nashville Network)? it used to have country stuff, now it's all wrestling and star trek. Remember Sci Fi? it used to be THE PLACE for geeks like us. Now their canceling Farscape and such. All niche markets will go mainstream for money. It will only take a few years until the people at XM decide to axe the stations with less popularity... after all they bring in far less profit than the average Brittany Spears station. Why oh Why won't she die? (or at least do some real porn?)
Isn't it odd that the US government keeps extending copyright (now past 80 years), and patents are only valid for around 20 years? I mean, isn't it a lot more expensive to research a technology than it is to write a few pages of text?
I mean, wouldn't it be cheaper (and easier) to use a chain and combo lock? They could have all the locks use the same combination (like 1-2-3). It might take a bit longer to unload each container, but things would hardly ever break, and the technology would be very cheap.
In capitalism, companies do whatever they can to make more money. You don't like it, move to North Korea.
Seriously though, leaders of companies are supposed to do what they can to help their business do as well as possible. In this day and age, it means acting like a dick.
You obviously don't know your Vulcan history. In the time before Surak, Vulcans were an emotional and extremely destructive species (similar to the Romulans). Surak was able to bring logic and peace to his people but only by burying all emotion.
Am I the only one thinking that a non-profit could have done the EXACT SAME thing YEARS ago? Why didn't a church or something just buy safeForKids.org and then give out xxx.safeForKids.org addresses to people that run sites for children?
That the parent comment was written AS A SARCASTIC comment. What the hell is wrong with you people?

A company decided to stop offering for free software that competes with one of its most expensive products. Nothing to see here. Move along.

I came up with the ultimate solution for spam: spam.thatgeek.com.
Every time I get a piece of spam, I put the email address of the spammer on this website. Then, when the spammers' email-collecting programs hit my page, the spammers' addresses get into their own databases!

I'm sure everyone would prefer to read the article here since it doesn't require a username or password.

Executive Summary: CGI is slow, and you can't really use MVC principles. The end.
And to think I would have just written down the schedule on a piece of paper (total cost < 1 cent)

Does that mean that we can take their binaries and distribute them for free? After all, if they used GPL code, then their code is also under the GPL.

If you stole from them, and you admit it in the near future, they promise not to sue you. Yep, sounds like a scam to me.
Step 1: Promise not to sue people
Step 2: ????
Step 3: Profit!!!
