I'll chime in a little bit. It was used quite a bit in the grpahics world because people would use a verison of lightwave 3D or softimage that ran natively on Alpha chips and then use other stuff that wasn't native to complement those programs like photoshop. Not only did it do runtime optimization and such, but I guess after running something a few times, it would optimize more and more to native alpha stuff so the program would run faster and faster each time it was run.
I think you got me wrong. That wasn't a justification for the MPAA, that was more a general tutorial for anyone planning on burning some DVD's once the price of blanks come down. I hate the RIAA, I hate the MPAA.
The thing is, tapes cost about 12-$20 now. DVD's cost LOTS less to make than VHS tapes. In most industries better things come out at the same price for competitions sake. In the movie industry something new comes out every 20 years just so they can hike up prices twice as much without really doing a whole lot as far as quality. Sure DVD's have better picture and sound, but they are still at a much higher profit margin than tapes.
Paying $20-$25 for a DVD is just as bad. DVD's don't cost that much to make. Movies pay for themselves in the theare, CD's don't have an analog. DVD's cost more to produce I am sure, but I doubt they cost more than $1. It's rediculous how much of a markup goes on there. Someone is checking up on the European prices? Jesus, as if the American prices weren't bad enough they mark them up even more in Europe? That's horrible. I hope this doesn't make people think that they are getting off light paying $20 for a "Super Special Final Mega Director's Cut"
It is possible to burn DVD movies, just not anything that is encryted. What needs to be done is the dvd must be decrypted, then burned onto the dvd disc. So no, it isn't a direct copy, but it is possible to copy movies.
Then it should have been "Orlando Jones (7up commercials, mad TV, Office Space etc.)" but I think its disrespectful to the actor and to the people reading the review to reffer to an actor like that.
Actually Cast Away was written before any deal was struck with Fed-Ex. They actually had to ask them for permission and FedEx was reluctant because in the movie the plane crashes, and no FedEx plane has gone down before.
Its not that they are from Sony, that is an effect of aperature grille monitors which need the wires to keep the vertical wires straight. They aren't completely invisible and can be seen on white backrounds. Everyone who makes aperature grille monitors uses this technique.
I think this is very true. Go to any trade show and the companies are trying to look good. This means all of the slickest hardware they can find. Optical/wireless mice, small keyboards, lighting, and flat screens everywhere.
The reason that the Kyro's don't have T&L is because it is very difficult to implement with tile based rendering (or so I've read, I couldn't say for sure). Some people have said its impossible, but it been said by Thompson that they're next card will have T&L so we'll see if that can stand up to the mightly Geforce 3. Not to harp on you though, I realize that I responded to another comment of yours too.
That wouldn't be so bad in their current state. If nVidia was to continue releasing products every six months that make their old product look like yesterday's news, then I say bring it on. Of course if nVidia was going to rule the world, they probably wouldn't have to.
If you generated a film, even in realtime, even if it looks absolutely real, its still animated, and voice acting takes very little time.
Of course I have played with voice synth, but nothing as ever even come close to sounding real, and I don't see the progress being made in realism. I think that it will be possible eventually to render realism in realtime, it is the evolution of things after all. An voices will probably be synthesized and sound real too by mimicking human voice anatomy, but why?
In 10-15 years things will be very different and I think that what you are talking about could happen, but it won't happen to movies. 25-50 years the internet will be a thousand times more important than it even is today, and if all you want is a movie, downloading and playing it should be a piece of cake. As for interactive movies, where you watch it with goggles, maybe in a theatre, maybe in your own house and you can rotate the angle, but not affect the animation, and sound is generated depeding on the events you voted or otherwise influenced to happen, we'll see. Realtime movies will come, but a paradim shift will come with it. Imagine a mystery movie where all the pieces are there, you just have to be looking at the right thing. Imagine a movie about someone's life where you influence, what happens, the possibilities are endless as they always have been.
I never insulted the intellegence of another person for not knowing the language of a secific region. I do know what languages are spoken there, but knowledge does not equal arrogance. Spelling does not equal ignorance. Neighther do typing errors.
Alright Asmov, lets not get ahead of ourselves. The xbox and gamecube look great, and the next generation might be aproaching realism at times, but there is no way that movies will be generated in realtime until the second generation after the gamecube. Until then, there will be no competition to pre-rendered movies, there is just too much that goes into them. Movies right now aren't even using stuff like radiosity because its just too processor intensive. Caustics, extremely heavy anti-aliasing, high quality volumetrics, that stuff takes time, and a butt load of power. Games make leaps and bounds and will continue, but realtime movies are way out of anyone's league, the largest, fastest super computer in the world couldn't even manage it, not by a long shot.
As for voice generation, its not being done yet at all let along realtime. There is no reason for it eighther, the voices for a movie takes like 2 days, why would anyone spend a fortune on R&D to cut out such an easy element of production. They won't. Not that your the first to think of it, but there's a reason its not being dealt with very much.

Ninendo isn't that bad, they are facing heavy competition and that is good. Detroying MTV, you said it, lets get some ski masks and burn the place down tonight!
Or is it kinda pointless to run these games on an emulator - for me the whole thing about game boy's is that you can take them with you! Isn't that what one buys them for?
Now you are Really missing the point. How can you be so short sighted? Emulation can be used for alot of things, not the lest of which is development of GBA games. The next of course is that you can try games before you buy them by playing them on an emulator. Finally you can buy gba blank ROM carts from lik sang and that means free games.

The RIAA already sued themselves when they sued Nullsoft for creating gnutella. Nullsoft is owned by AOL. AOL merged with Time Warner. AOL Time Warner is part of the RIAA.
I think this has been pretty healthy, as all the comments seem to be positive yet not without true critisism. One of the things that always got on my nerves was little configuration things like changing resolution and color depth. In windows, its easy. In linux, it takes a triple-hotkey in X (I think, I fogot exatcly how to do it). What's up with that? There is no reason why something that fundamental should be tucked away in a hot key, its just rediculous. Color and resolution change in windows needs to be copied, it is very intuitive.
you will be able to link up four xboxes and be able to play halo with 16 people on four TV's/monitors. I don't know about the gamecube, but ahhh yeah. On a side note, I am thinking that microsoft might be making an unpresedented push to make the xbox more like PC gaming in that the console is more personlaized and not as shared. Everyone has their own, and plays games with each other over a network with their own screens.
I guess it also depends on how much they are charging. $40 for a download is steep, $15 should cover bandwidth, servers, and leave room for profit and would work just fine.
Maybe I should clarify. I bought mandrake at best buy, even though I have never used that specific copy. I meant that making it only available through paying for it seems unfair to me. I have no gripes with paying for a packaged box with manuals and support etc. And whoever modded me as flamebait, pretty lame.

Not only do you make a mean mod, you also get respect and responsibility, very nice.
I don't work in an office, it doesn't make a sound, it gets a little warm, and $400 is the cheapest LCD I have seen so there's no comparison.
