Money and distribution is important, but its also not fair to be charging for other people's work, and essentially making them pay for it. No one would help on any of their projects if they did that, and it would be essentially like stepping back to a closed source model.

I do all my html by hand, and when I noticed opera and netscape were rendering stuff differently than IE I ran it through the w3c checker and got it all up to par with standards. Opera still didn't get some of the stuff right, it was kind of frustrating.

Ok, everyone seems to be agreeing, and yeah, of course I see the parallels. There is a difference though. Why do you want a pc in the first place? to do work, to play games to communicate. Cars take you places, but you can't create tools with them. PC are tools that (in a programmers sense) help you create tools. Computer geeks like fast computers, big surprise. You can always use more speed in your computer (ALWAYS!). You can't usually get someplace faster because you have a faster car. Faster computers open up new doors, faster cars are more towards fun cool stuff then opening up new possibilities.

Maybe they should rethink their buisness plan if it costs 1/10th of a billion dollars to dig up the ground and put down metal and glass wire for 1 mile.

Consoles have much better performance than comptuers because the hardware is dedicated and static. A console with the same hardware as a computer will end up having much better graphics because game developers can write games specifically for the hardware and push it to the max. Right now, you could buy a Geforce 3 but no game is going to take advantage of it. Games are just now starting to take advantage of T & L. An example would be that the playstation, uses a 33 MHz main processor, and the nintendo 64 uses a 90 Mhz. I had a 33 MHz proc once, it didn't even run doom very well at all.
