    Actually I thought most dimmer were variacs rather than pots. Or at least made heavy use of inductors. AC means you don't need to use ohms law for everything. Also the way the thermal characteristics of resistance in a lightbulb work it will consume nearly the same power whatever input you give it, it'll just be dimmer because it's cooler and therefore producing more energy outside the visible spectrum.

    You need at least 3 to have a good voting system (forgive me if I got the term wrong). That way when one part gives bad data the majority parts override it.

    I think what they meant is the designs are passively safe. That way they're self regulating and you don't have an accident if the control system stops working. Sort of the polar opposite of 3-mile island or Chernobyl.

    In my experience ABS is actually a liability if you're facing ice instead of rain. It has a tendency to brake the wheels unevenly at higher speeds.

    Critical thinking tells us that a lot of critical thinking by some very, very bright individuals went into the things that are in the Constitution and its various amendments. Combine that with the fact that a lot of very dim people run things now and we trust the past supermajority legislation of the constitution over any current simple majority legislation.

    Half of it's written by Apple these days anyway. There's still a bit in music and video I understand. Me I'm a proud user of PWP on windows, with some PSP on the side when I need vectors. I think Photoshop now has too many features, most of which will never be used, and Elements is missing all the ones that will be used.

    The problem is that it takes an entire elective semester just to get the most basic syntax into their skulls in an average class. And good look keeping the talented one's in line while you do that, they'll be hacking out their assignments in the first 10-15 minutes of class and playing games installed to the network drives for the rest of class. At least that's how it worked at my school.
