Regardless of what you think of capitalism and free trade and stuff, we still need to SERIOUSLY improve our schools. In a decade or so, India will have ~150 million college educate people, that's almost half our population! How are we supposed to compete against that?
Buy firearms and lots of ammunition. As long as the population is armed, the government can't have complete control. If you want freedom, be prepared to fight for it because soon you may have to.
Just curious, what was the gun ownership rate in Iraq before we invaded?
That's actually the only thing I could find on the subject using google, but recently there was a flap by a guy over how it was wrong for us to call a team "the Redskins", because how would we like it if there was a team called "the niggers". Needless to say, he got yelled at.
In response to your favorite example, I think a storyline from FlemCo addresses it, but you gotta sit through ~13 (I think) strips to get the idea.
Tell that to the French neo-colonies in West Africa. I wish I still had the link, I saw a great picture after France unilaterally sent troops in Cote d'Ivoire of Ivoirians holding up signs saying "Bush! Save us from the French!"
Was that the civil war where the French evacuated American expatriates for us?
Random/.er: I have found the flaw in your argument, it is thus.
Me: That isn't what I said and you know it! But it's someone's birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Whoo!
If we've got data, and we've got models, and the data fits the models, we don't really need a new model until we get new data that doesn't fit our old model.
Libertarian ethic? I'm reasonably sure they think that less regulation == teh r0xx0rz, and changing the laws so that IP logging isn't required would be less regulation.
Remember when that Kuro5hin poster was concerned about the safety of the Vice President, and he got a visit from the Feds because they thought he was making threats against the VPs life? If they've got the time (and money!) to deal with ridiculous shit like that, then surely they can take care of an issue like this, right?
I mean, seriously, spam costs money, right? It doesn't cost the spammers anything, but the compromised relays must be losing out from cost of bandwidth and deterioration of service, right? w/ Halliburton fucking taxpayers recently, surely someone at the military must be keeping an eey out for other people trying to take advantage of us, right?!
jschauma is an sysadmin at my school... besides being responsible for all 75 NetBSD machines, he's also a NetBSD developer. I'm not surprised that he can submit his stories anywhere he wants to...
Wasn't techcentralstation.com already denounced as a tool for lobbyists?
I think here.

Only terrorists and God-hating liberals object to cavity searches... You're not a liberal, are you?
Does this mean alot of good science fiction got thrown out the window?

Good God, I should check a dictionary before making an ass of myself. Anyway.
Didn't we already run a story about how a little pollution was good for us? "What doesn't kill us blahblahblah"
We'll know more tomorrow, right? This joke will be more or less funny then.
If you substitute "AIDS" for "global warming", you kinda sound like Ronald Reagan.

Take that Mr. Controlled Experiments!
You want Enron First Energy building and operating your nuclear power plants?
In NJ, I can legally have sex w/ Perl! Whoo-hoo!
What're you looking?!

Save the American IT economy, shut down slashdot!
Fool! Hurry up and describe how you think a tiny subset of it might work over a networK and then go patent it!
It's like a license to print money!

Does that make sense?
Shouldn't they be studying the OpenBSD process? (security) Or the NetBSD process? (run everywhere)
No no no! You're only supposed to talk about states' rights when a Democrat is in office! Only traitors and terrorist-sympathizers would disagree.

Aside from the fact that China doesn't give a fuck about economic concerns, there isn't much chance of a war happening.
As unlikely as more people looking to China than the U.S. for hopes for a better future.
sorry, ever since I started as a TA, I've been a bit sensitive to "those who can't, teach" remarks. I'll phrase it better next time.
