I wouldn't be surprised if they put out some kind of offline patch when they try to discontinue support for the game. But I'm sure they'll keep the servers up for quite some time before they do anything.
Just because a word or phrase is old doesn't mean it's how people speak anymore. Hence why we don't speak "ye olde English". I don't go around saying, "Thine locks beist quite foul! And thy luck downtrodden." I say, "Your hair doesn't look so good. Bad luck at the Great Clips?" It's been decades since I took English classes, and we never used "an" in that way. The word "an" should be followed by vowel sounds, like, "That's an idiotic thing to say!" While "a" should be followed by consonants, like, "That's a ridiculous hat!" It's easier to say and understand. It just makes sense. That's why we have the two words that have the same function.
Hate to burst your bubble, but the Bible doesn't actually state that the world is 6,000 years old. That was just some math done using the stated ages of people within the Bible to work backward and figure out the age of the universe. But no one in the Bible says, outright, that the world is 6,000 years old.
And how you can say that they aren't "directly beholden to one party or another" is completely beyond me. Is that what the "D" and "R" mean..? "Not biased"? I'm pretty sure the VAST majority of Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, etc. all vote along party lines most, if not all, of the time. If you think otherwise, you've got your head in the sand.
Sooooo... we're supposed to let the corrupt bureaucrats just sit there in office for life, without term limits? And let them continue to make decisions that the public, the people they are SUPPOSED to represent, do NOT want?
{sarcasm}That sounds really smart! Yes. Let's just let them be. They've been in office for 20 years. They MUST know what they're doing. Yup. {/sarcasm}
Oh, they know what they're doing. They're either taking corporate money from lobbyists to make decisions based on what those corporations want, regardless of what the rest of the population's wishes are. Or, they're doing what they think is best for the country. In case you hadn't noticed, most politicians do NOT work for the people anymore. They suck up to us and get us to believe that they do what we want, and once they're in office they do whatever they want, or think is right for us (or themselves, if they're greedy bastards).
I don't know about you, but I don't need someone to tell me what's good for me. If the people elect you into office, you're supposed to do what they tell you to do. You're not their babysitter. You're supposed to be their representative and steward.
It's probably best that way... lots of people think of these cameras as safety devices. Others think they're just revenue-generators. (Not that they aren't revenue-generators...but some say they have other good purposes.) Either way... brain asplode!
How about teach others. Once you've gotten that far, you have a LOT of knowledge to impart on others. As a master of any trade, you can certainly help train others to do good work, too. Take on apprentices along the way. Also, I'm sure the trade's union has information about retirement and benefits. Besides, not many people stay in one job for very long anymore. So, I doubt most people would be career contractors, but you never know.
You can't tell me they don't have less-expensive, yet good, educations at community colleges that people can go to, instead of going to big-name universities that have high tuition. Places where people could, indeed, work their way through college. Not everyone needs a degree from Hoity-Toity University.
A lot of comments that I've seen, so far, have mentioned that many jobs that require degrees really don't need to require them. Because college degrees are becoming more commonplace, businesses can require them for more positions. Not everyone needs or should have a college degree. Otherwise they simply become the new high-school diploma, and grad school is the place to be. Shoot... that's pretty much where we're at anyway.
I bet universities would lower costs mighty quickly, when the enrollment rates go waaaaaaay down because no one can afford to go to their institution. (Not saying this is the right way to do this, though...)
And who's going to pay for their free education? That's right, the rest of the country, through taxes. The money has to come from somewhere. Of course, we could kill financial aid and use that money for these free educations. But then the lower and middle classes would be complaining about how they can't afford a college education... regardless of whether or not they've "demonstrate[d] themselves capable". People WANT, regardless of what they've earned or deserve.
It doesn't help that college education costs have risen to astronomical proportions, compared to years past. Look at the numbers.
But then again, people going to college (and their parents) need to use their brains a bit. So, students are getting expensive degrees and taking on lots of debt while hoping that they can get a well-paying job that doesn't exist in a saturated market. How does that make ANY sense at all? Now they owe lots of money and can't pay it back. So, the higher costs are compounding the problem.
The trades pay pretty well, if you're good at what you do. People need to get into these hands-on, much-needed positions, instead of pining for fancy desk jobs. Getting your hands dirty doesn't make you less of a person. In fact, I wouldn't mind getting more hands-on, instead of sitting at my desk all day... maybe that's telling me something about my own choice of career path? (Like, desk jobs aren't all they're made out to be...)
It's not like they'd eliminate scholarships for bright students. And many colleges offer their own financial aid, on top of federal aid. So, it's not like all financial aid would be eliminated. And those worthy of scholarships should still get them. Of course, that doesn't mean that school financial aid and scholarships will completely pay for their education. But they should go a fair amount toward assisting with payment so that the student doesn't need a full-time job to keep up with expenses.
Keep in mind, not all people should be attending college. (Blah, blah... rights, etc.) College SHOULD be for the best and brightest. We still need people to learn trades and take jobs that don't require college education. Many people these days go to college because they think they should, or that it's necessary to do so. (Companies certainly don't help this, requiring degrees for jobs that don't need them.) But often-times, these college degrees are costing them far more than if they had taken 2-year degrees or just joined the workforce. Not everyone can be doctors, lawyers, or engineers. And yet everyone wants to be...
Considering I don't really care too much about multiplayer games, this won't affect me much. I'm way more interested in games with excellent storylines, like Uncharted, MGS4, etc. I don't have a lot of friends that game, and ones that do game tend to like different games than I do. So I focus on the campaign modes, rather than multiplayer. Therefore, I can buy all the used PS3 games I want, not give Sony a cent of my money, and still enjoy the PS3 that I purchased.
Not a huge deal, really. They can still patent other ideas, just not anything that was researched with Intel's funding. If you think you'll want a patent on it, use other funds instead.
It's different with government and police. If an ordinary citizen catches you in the act of committing a crime and then reports you, I don't have a problem with that. But If the police set up surveillance and automate things to discover people breaking the law, you'll have people spitting chewing gum or tossing cigarette butts getting tickets faster than a bear on honey. While I detest both of those things, neither of those people did anything wrong prior to that act. There's no cause to put someone under surveillance just because you feel like it. Just as police need a warrant to search your home or tail you around, they should need a warrant to have automated surveillance put on someone. Otherwise you get a society that's paranoid of even stepping outside their homes for fear they may be arrested for something they didn't even realize they did. It'll be impossible to just let loose and have fun anymore. What's the point in living when your every move is scrutinized?
When I moved to Madison a few years ago, I heard that Charter's customer service sucked. And reviews on the web all seemed to confirm as such. So, I decided to go elsewhere. My only option for a while was AT&T's DSL, which was decent. And now I have TDS, which ran fiber right to the back of my house. So, my speeds are pretty good. Speed tests put me close to the advertised numbers.
But I specifically avoided Charter, despite their decent pricing, due to their bad CS reviews. Maybe look into TDS. I think they serve much of Madison.
If the pool IS the filter, how would you go about cleaning/changing the filters so they filter properly? Change the entire pool out? I can't think of any other way to do it. It's just like my reverse-osmosis water system. The filters clog, and need replacing or cleaning. There's no way to do that here.
Ah... it's 1024x768 upscaled to 1080p. I assumed it was 1080p, because that's what the display said on my TV when the game fired up. But this makes sense... a high-quality, full 1080p game like MGS4 would be tough to make.
I was actually just playing through Diablo, and planning to run through Diablo II again. Good times!
I wouldn't be surprised if they put out some kind of offline patch when they try to discontinue support for the game. But I'm sure they'll keep the servers up for quite some time before they do anything.
Except most apps for iOS are very inexpensive or free. Not $60 each.
WOOOOOOOOSH!

Who says that...? "I'll have an Playstation 3, please!" Doesn't anyone take English classes anymore?

Do you need more..? I'm sure there are quite a few studies showing this trend.

Actually, Metal Gear Solid 4 runs at 1080p natively. I'd assume there are a few others that do the same.
