And one can stop spam by using the same technique that both Canada and the U.S. use for scams: charge the company that's paying for it.
Mind you, that does require extra staffing for the fraud squad! A suitable levels of fines applied to the companies who pay for this dreck should nicely cover it.
Hmmn, time to write to my MP!

I don't care what I do, how many lists I have put myself on; they still seem to find me.
I am an invalid. I never go out. But yet, somehow, one of those jerks got my numbers and sufficient information to use it.
From now on, I'm not going to bother. It doesn't do any good.
Peer review no doubt helps to limit people who intentionally want to cause problems. Sokal's bullshit paper on quantum gravity (see The Sokal Hoax) made it into print only through a non-peer-reviewed journal. While it is disturbing to think much published scholarship is unreliable, at least it isn't necessarily malicious.
While we can each "assume", no one knows what the intention was; malicious or not.
Personally, I think it was done intentionally and with malice.
And this post just proves it. It's causing problems......
These people are not unemployed, they are working at home, preparing Web 3.0!
This is where the jobs should be going;HOME. Between the price of gas, the rising price of just about everything, it just makes sense to telecommute all IT jobs.
I am 100% against outsourcing jobs to India or any other country. Let our qualified people get the jobs. There are plenty out there; you just have to look.
Americans would also be up in arms if most of their traffic was routed through China.
True. We would and should already be. The USA is the biggest, best and that should mean in everything we do. Where has all the pride in this country gone?
The signs are there. Are we going to let China take the internet from us? What's next? All the oil? Oh, I forgot, they already did that too. And trade? Yep.
How much do we lose before we stand up and be the superpower we are and STAND UP again for the USA? Just what will they take next? Are you willing to sit idlely by.......tick...tock...tick...tock...
It's pretty cool that Wikipedia has become a de-facto official source of leaks for such information. Fox News was reporting that Palin had moved to the top of the list but had no confirmation of her selection about an hour before officials confirmed it, and at that time they reported that Wikipedia listed her as the pick. Someone within the campaign evidently leaked it to Wikipedia before leaking it to offline media.
Fox would not report it because as a news organization they are under a moral obligation, if nothing else, to not release rumor as fact.
If it still works, there are groups that would appreciate getting it. Like seniors, disabled groups, etc. They don't need super-wazoo speed demons...just something to do email with and maybe some web cruising.
Usually, they'll pick it up and give you a receipt for a tax deduction. You will make more this way than you could get selling it.
But I would have thought the visa hassles would put most companies off doing something as short as a 3 month internship.
Having been through the US visa process myself as a Brit I would have thought the hassle and expense of going through it would put most individuals off doing it and certainly for something as short as 3 months.
Not when you can get a quality employee for 3 months at a very reduced cost. It is well worth the hassle. On an internship, my company never experience any high costs associated with this particular transaction. As a company, we also look at this as a recruiting effort when the internship is over without the additional expense.
I totally agree with your reasoning and it is about time. I was very surprised that it was a California court that came up with a good ruling for once.
Now we better hope it doesn't go to the 9th court of appeals........
But with the 3.0 release there are major changes. There seems to be 2 camps. Those that love it (because it works) and the others, like me, that it won't work at all for.
Firefox 3.0 crashed my computer every 30 minutes. Every webpage had errors; in the mornings just trying to load my homepage was an exercise in frustration.
So, if I only had to use IE for a few sites, I could live with that. But I ended up reverting back to Firefox 2.26 and I live happily ever after....
... I didn't download Firefox 3 when it came out. In fact, I'm still on Firefox 2, and I'm sure a good percentage of fellow/.ers are as well.
Um... the carpet bombing vulnerability also affects Firefox 2. It looks like someone is in trouble:)
Lucky you. Stay with 2. I downloaded 3 and it was the biggest mistake I've ever made. My computer ran like a dog (when it would run) and it would freeze up about every 30 minutes. I finally went back to 2 and am as happy as can be. Now all my add-ons work, the computer stopped crashing.
Why do they put out new products that are so buggy?
I'd probably agree with them. Are you kidding? Boring? No way! In this day and age, IT is the perfect place to be, IF you have an imagination! If anyone is bored, it's their own fault.
I wouldn't give up this occupation for anything. This is where all the action is; we are explorers into the great unknown. Pushing the boundaries to limits that have yet to be tested and someone is actually bored?
You don't like hardware; Go to software. Don't like CSS work on something else. What about AI? Is that exciting or what!!!!
Wake up people. We, in this business, are living in exciting times......
The idea that there are no set standards for beauty is wishful thinking. Every guy wants to find a girl who is beautiful and for some reason nobody else has noticed. In reality this never happens. The next time you see a pretty woman in the airport, don't look at her, look at all the guys as she walks by, it's quite noticeable. Attractive people are treated better from a young age and, knowingly or unknowingly, they leverage this asset to get what they want. This is not some quirk in the study of psychology, it's the driving force behind the behaviors that shape evolution. It's a cruel trick of nature that we are not all created equal, and I'm glad we're civilized enough to moderate some of the resulting inequality. I agree. It is a sad commentary on society and a fact people try to ignore. Attractive people in this society, whether it is a man or woman, are treated better. The idea that software can possibly decide on beauty is ridiculous. There are too many factors, too many variables.
The mystery is the same as why do men fall in love with the women they do? Are attractive people the only ones to find love and marry? No. Ugly people are attractive and beautiful in the eyes of someone. A computer would never think so. People are funny that way. There is no rhyme or reason to the beauty of the human species. A cold piece of metal needs hard facts. The secret ingredient is.........
As I do with anything when I get too involved. I really don't think of it as an "addiction".
It is normal, when people are preoccupied with a task, whether it be the Internet, mountain climbing or just reading a good book, you tend not think about eating, sleeping or anything else. I don't consider any of that an addiction either.
Whoever is trying to get it classified as such has an underlying reason, not a medical one. I think I would look into motives a little bit closer.

this is the end Twitter's innocence.
Isn't this the internet? What's innocent?
I agree. Twitter was never assumed to be anymore or any less than any other program on the internet.
Why would anyone think it was safer? If they did, then shame on them and them alone.
Nothing will change; I will still use it like before; using my own security.

I'd say don't bother with blocking cell phones, let the inmates have as many as they want.
Just make it a death penalty to be caught in possession of a charger.
That makes too much sense and doesn't cost any money. So I doubt the government will do that.
Personally, I think you have a great idea even though I know it was said sarcastically.

And, after all that trouble of making it so squirrelly for a normal person to read, it still doesn't help.
They need to come up with an entirely new system. Quit trying to fix the old one!

They did the right thing. Wikipedia did not.
that if you have multiple email addresses you have multiple personalities?
And, if you try all the normal stuff and it's all taken, the site starts suggesting stuff, is that then the sites personality?

Can we all say the word "Alzheimer's"........
That was true with previous releases.
But with the 3.0 release there are major changes. There seems to be 2 camps. Those that love it (because it works) and the others, like me, that it won't work at all for.

What am I supposed to do with my other hand, if I may be so bold to ask?
I know...You could lose it to a disease like I did. That way you only you'd have 1 to worry about.
I think it sounds like a great product for me.With 1(one) hand left that works at about 30%, I'm going to look into it.
Do you want the name of the disease so you too can be like me????

The biggest stat they forgot to mention is: How many people (like me) had to unload it and go back to the previous version.
Firefox Ver 3 is a dog, broke everything. And, from the postings everywhere, hundreds, if not thousands, feel the same way.
So they need to subtract us.......

If these are YouTube's guidelines, their videos especially should not be allowed.
I have not seen anything non-violent or without dead bodies whenever they release a video for the west.
I believe in free speech, but not in promoting terrorism or hate speech. This is like free commercial advertising for them.
I buy on line just to avoid taxes. With that incentive gone, the prices will almost be as much as local so I will probably stop that practice.
I think many online businesses will be hurt by this move.
