  1. This argument is moot on Skeptical Environmentalist Saga Continues · · Score: 1

How come the burden of proof is on the environmental scientists? It should be up to industrialists to show theres nothing wrong with breathing the crap that they spew. We *should* be all for cleaning up the air polution problem first. We know we have polluted air, you can see it. All the large cities I've lived in have brown air. This is unacceptable. Clean this up and it makes the global warming argument disappear.

Apparently its much wiser to not bother to fix it until the atmosphere is seriously broken and we're headed to disaster. Thanks Bush. I for one would rather not be part of this science experiment.

Ah.. I worked on the 4758-II as well in Charlotte. I wrote the external key storage db. Sweet news that theyre moving to embedded linux.

As far as the cracking the 4758 vs the 4758-II, I dont think it matters. Since they both use the same CCA api, the cards are basically identical.

Personally Im not worried about hackers stealing my money.. This hack requires lots of physical access to the device and the help of a bank manager with appropriate security access. Also, I believe that during installation of the device, the required DES to 3DES functions can be disabled, as theyre only there for compatability for older hardware and software. Although a corrupt sysadmin could probably reenable them.

However I can imagine some wider scam with a corrupt manager and his mafia buddies.

What's the alternative? You have nothing.. if they go bankrupt you still have nothing. If they don't, at least you have something.

Secondly, this would not go to trial. Its calling their bluff. They know they owe you the money. They want you to believe that its so hopeless that you should just write off the debt. Why? Don't forget that creditors are more powerful in the law than stockholders. Don't give that away for nothing. You basically own the company at this point, so take what is owed to you.

Their proposal, however, is a logical fallicy.. I hope you didn't skip logic class in college. Its true they don't have money to pay you. Its true that you'll have to accept %50 payments. Its NOT true that you have to give up your current debts. They want you to believe the first two, so you think its hopeless and sign away whats owed to you.

Yes, UGO is in trouble. Any lawsuit for cash is frivilous and moot at this point. Don't bother. Call their bluff and make them give you equity for the debt. Then you can renegotiate a contract on your terms instead of theirs. And in the end, since you'll be taking 50% payments one way or the other, this doesn't affect UGO's ability to survive.

  17. THIS IS A JOKE! on Scientists Poised to Create Life · · Score: 2

Please reread the article!!! All that the scientists are going to do is knock out a hundred or so genes of this tiny bacterium. We knock out genes all the time in the lab-- theyre just taking it to the extreme. Theyre taking a chainsaw to this poor bug to see how much they can chop off and still keep it barely alive. Granted this is an interesting experiment, but it has NOTHING to with "creating" life. What these scientists and the media have created is a bunch of sensationalism. Most likey because theyve run short of funding.
