This will come closer to being branded like the Nook than any Android tablet, but with better app support. Amazon has content, and is one of the few companies in position to seriously compete with Apple in that area. They can fork android, build their own ecosystem, put it on their front page and sell millions. I think the writing has been on the wall for several months now.
"them dropping AIR for Linux"... Should that not read many legions of Linux admins rejoiced when Adobe dropped Air support? Who wants to mess with a platform on a platform?
Your assuming they keep the optical drive, and use decent thumb drives. Throw out the drive and include a thumb drive just big enough to hold the OS, and it might be cheaper.
"Good artists copy; great artists steal." - Steve Jobs.
Although he is misquoting Picasso - "Lesser artists borrow; great artists steal", which some believe Picasso stole from someone else.
There is really very little original anymore, but sorting through the rubble of knowledge and knowing what to use and what to throw away takes great skill.
Your dead wrong. Facebook's user data was exposed, it does not matter who wrote the damn code, it is facebooks fault. Running a major site comes with real responsibilities.
I refuse to play any game that requires your friends help to play, like the so called games on Facebook. I do play a couple simple MMORPG's to relax, where I can casually chat with friends and peeps I bump into all over the world while I play.
Although most of us think software patents are outright wrong, or in my case think they need serious curbing and shortening, they are our system in 2011. Google needs to own up an buy the rights to the patents. But they wont, forcing all their "partners" to do it individually.
To find old friends, because they are all there. I have a profile, but only post about once a year. But I do use it as a tool to find old friends... and I then email them. =]
It is time for a Facebook replacement. It really can't be that hard, just value your customers, and take privacy seriously. G+ looks like a great example, but not sure how much I trust a business based on selling everything they know about me for advertising revenue either. Myspace has the name, and could be rebuilt from ground up, but was just bought by an advertising company. Would someone here please stand up and make a great social network? You can sell ads (won't see them anyway), just don't sell me.
Amazon gladly collects taxes for Kansas, because they have a large warehouse there right in the middle of the country. The population is low, and shopping opportunities are slim, so it does not really impact sales. I can see Amazon eventually only having infrastructure in a few key low sales states to avoid collecting sales tax in the big sales states.
They have a very nice niche going as the game console for casual gamers. I'm sure nobody here wants to hear it, but this is a much bigger market than hard core game systems. With Playstation and Xbox fighting for top spot, the Wii was picking up the rest of gaming community, or the third product position in the market. They were the 7-up "uncola" to Coke and Pepsi. Why change course now? Just add HD and a faster processor and call it a day.
I was always turned off by the low resolution of the wii. We have an xbox with kinect, but my mom and all of her friends own wii's.
Engineering projects are normally based on projects. That means each person often has several projects going, with a different group of people involved in each project depending on particular needs and workloads. This could be very handy to build a group for each project to ease communications.

On devices that don't support flash, youtube uses html 5, but default to flash for everyone else. Too bad they didn't just go html for everyone.

Droid is a race to the bottom. Why go with something you will be racing against JustStartedCompanyYesterday Corp. for slim or no profits?
Arrogance rarely wins, why is it so popular?
How do we write an open spec, and get it adopted? HDMI needs to go.
What are they going to use for base load?
Wait.. they are going to arrest editors in Britain?

Actually Gates was a coder, and pulled some cool tricks to get dos to fit and work from a floppy (wish I had a link).
I can't for the life of me see how games with micropayments even stay online. Must be kids with their parents credit cards?

Nope, he was right if referring to a ratio (which he was).

I don't get why people stay if the working conditions are that bad? They obviously have skills that are very employable.
It is a lighter weight OS, it should blow Windows doors off.
Where is the offense and defense?
Although I think 1 day would be plenty.
