Man, all these years Ive been wondering why Microsoft just couldnt get their act together regarding Outlook and virii and worms and Internet Explorer with all its security issues.
It was a carefully planned and executed marketing strategy.
Now they get to charge extra for "Peaceful Outlook" and "Internet Explorer - The No Worries Edition"
Well, see, thats what you get for using Exchange/Outlook instead of Domino/Notes.
Notes has had that feature (and many others which Exchange still doesnt have) for AGES.
Mighty cool website they have there ....

... you dont have that? Back here in the stone-age (a.k.a. Germany) weve had that for years. Search google for DCF77. A time signal is broadcast via radio. There are receivers for servers (serial cable), there are watches that receive the signal, and, of course alarm clocks. That means daylight savings time comes and goes and my alarm clock handles it all by itself.
Oh yes, that particular alarm clock also lets me enter times via a numeric keypad.
so this user goes on vacation and creates a little agent to send a copy of all incoming mail to his private mail account.
Nothing wrong with that.
Until she fails to religiously pick up her private mail every day and her mail box fills up. So her providers mail server sends the forwarded mail back to her business address.
Where the agent runs and forwards it to her personal address.
When I got into work on Monday, it was quite a pain to get this mess out of the system, a total of over 80.000 mails had to be killed on 3 servers.
Just one problem: When cell phones loose contact to the network, they are usually set up to go into "panic mode" and try to re-gain network access ASAP.
yo, folks. This is one of those words that - while spelled the same in both languages - means something completely different.
So, american junior geeks go to the gymnasium to get their share of Phys. Ed., i.e. to get all sweaty and shit.
For german kids, a Gymnasium (nouns are capitalized in German) is where some of them go after elementary school. Gymnasium == Jr+Sr High School (grades 5 thru 12/13 depending on state). There are some other forms of secondary schools here in Germany.
So, while it will still be a shared-space-sleeping-experience, at least the rooms are a lot smaller;-)
See, youve fallen for Microsofts claims. Exchange is NOT really groupware. Thats what theyre trying to tell the world, since they still havent figured out how to do some of the stuff that Lotus Notes and Domino have been doing for close to 10 years now.
As a Notes nut, I must admit that I WAS kinda scared of Exchange 2000, but with the Demise of Office Designer and the Local Web Storage System, theres no way Exchange 2k can hurt Notes.
And even IF Exchange server could do what Domino can do, it would still be limited to Windows. Domino runs on Windows, AIX, HP/UX, Linux, OS/400, OS/390. HA !:-)
Just couldnt resist. I personally would have preferred a President Gore over this funny fellow youre getting now.
But, theres an upside for us Europeans: Boy, do we ever expect the dollar to fall once everybody finds out how intellectually challenged George W. really is:-)
check out this page from their website: That pretty much says it all, so essentially, yes, they ARE evil:-)

The story WAS news here in Germany about a year ago when the story surfaced. Turns out that a german ex-cracker, Kim Schmitz, switched sides, "turned pro" and started an IT security consulting firm. Apparently business was good and he had himself a new car made, including the drop down TFTs and the 16 cell phone "cluster".
The catch is: this baby cost $250K...
What IS new is that they now formed a company to market the car (and mobile internet access solutions).
Yes, but we absolutely must encrypt that list and make absolutely sure the ad-spamming-private-info-collecting companies dont get unencrypted versions of it.
Should they attempt to decrpyt the list of ad servers and other nasties, well just sue them for a couple of billion bucks...
A similar problem, not related to Java/scheduling, was found when the Lotus Domino Server was ported to Linux. Itll work just fine for browser clients since these dont maintain a session. Itll only support up to around 200 Notes clients and then basically go into cardiac arrest mode.
Whats funny here, though, is the fact that the exact same problems showed up in Sun Solaris and IBMs own AIX when the Domino server was first ported to these platforms.
as long as that trigger-happy cowboy dude is president, the answer is easy: more war.
as long as the US President is pronouncing "nuclear" as "nucular", the correct pronounciation of SQL is not all that important.
I send you this bomb in order to have your opinion.
Its not the Navy, its the Bush administration.
And its not the USS Constitution, its the US Constitution.
These MS wizards really have it worked out.
First they let their users do all the testing.
Now the users get to do all the developing, too.
but www.befaqs.com sure is.

maybe something like actionnetwork.org would work? Lists issues and provides ways to contact the appropriate folks ...

Problem is: This actually WASTES battery power.
Lotus Domino is the original Exchange Killer. Actually, its been around way longer than Exchange, it works, and its available for Linux.
yeah, right. And isnt there a legal minimum on how much tread you need to have on your tires?
Now wonder these people caused accidents, what with driving around with NO tread on their tires.
