O.k., that's pretty cool; didn't know that. Although, given the choice again, I'd probably still pick the MD because it's so much smaller (fits in pocket nicely). Still, that's cool. Glad thay have done that.
You know, I'm also against this whole non-rippable CD thing as well as MS's monopolies but I've recently gotten away from mp3's somewhat.
That's because a few months ago I got a Sony MZ-R700 (about $200 then) minidisc player. (I have no affiliation with any electronics company). It is about 1/4 the area/size of a CD player so it is completely portable. The minidiscs cost about $2 each and they can hold up to 300 minutes per disk. The battery life is more than 40 hours (rechargable in the unit) and I can use a USB-to-optical connection for a straight digial rip. All I need to be able to do is play the thing. I know I can't transfer the files off the minidisc, but we're really not supposed to be doing that too much anyhow, right?:)
I had been waiting for mp3 players with > 64 megs to come down in price but this seems to make much more sense. Once I heard that minidiscs can hold so much, I completely swapped and haven't looked back. Also, I can just pull out one disc and put in another! I don't need to reload the unit with other music and erase what's already on there. You just can't do that with the solid-state players...
Just something I thought you'd all be interested in. Best wishes.

Hi there. I'm sure many peple won't read this because it was posted so late in this discussion, but I thought you might like a quick word from some of
the ER's I've been in today down here. (Columbia, NYU, and Vincent's). Tragically, everyone is really just standing around waiting for live people to
come in, and there seems to be a general lack of this. Every now and then a fire fighter comes in, but is generally stable at this stage - likely incidental
damage.
Yesterday, one of the firemen was brought in - in his mid fourties, I would suppose. He had a brother and 3 sons who were all firefighters; one of the
latter was not accounted for all day yesterday. He himself had gotten caught in the first collapse, had gotten out and went in the second building and
was then caught in that collapse and received some blows of debris into his back, for which he was being treated. It's that kind of bravery from the
very salt of the earth which makes me so proud to be an American. God bless to all.

You know, I know that IBM is going to donate/spend $1 billion this year on Linux and open source, and this is clearly part of the whole plan. And while I would be the very last to look a "gift horse in the mouth" so to speak, wouldn't it be even more super if they dumped some money into these ailing open source projects or hired developers a.k.a. VA Linux?
You know, I got into Call To Power when I got it for linux, but found one big weakness with the game. Namely, it turned simply into a headache against the computer as the game progressed.
Either the computer was a roaming edget, or it built cities to the point that it's science and factories were far too quickly progressive. I just couldn't keep up because I couldn't effectively manage the equivalent number of cities...

You know, I think is is kind of funny. The big problem with QT is that it won't allow you (without purchasing a liscense) to develop commercial, closed-source software. But GTK does allow this.
But, oh, by the way, commercial software is bad and we should shy away from it.
Then why don't you make you own list? Would we have critized this guy if he did this just for Northern Maine? No, of course not. It would just not have been as noteworthy. Make your own for the rest of Europe and then combine efforts! Goodness knows, what he's done is monumental enough.
Man, that brought some smiles to my face! Now if we could only add notes on them to the list! It would make a great history
There was a BBS in MA called "Davey Jones' Locker" which I actually managed to get on a few times (difficult enough, especially as it was a long distance call.:) that, if I remember correctly, was seized because of all the illegal software it had.
Little histories like that would be great to see. To perhaps see postings from people with odd handles which you once bumped into every now and then!
Stramge. My family used to be good friends with the Mundies a few years ago, especially back when he was the CEO of Alliant. He seemed to be full of praise for X and UNIX then...:)
Hi there, my name is Hemos. Many of you know me from my roles as slashdot afficiando and employee. I'm not a computer-user, but I play one on TV. And I'd like to take this moment (and use my ability to post) to speak to you about my new discovery. The "Wampom Band-dangle super-chute fruit dispenser". I have been using this wonderful invention exclusively for the last several months(*1) and have to tell you how absolutely pleased I am with it! In fact, I'm so pleased, I bought one for each of my friends! It's that simple!
The "Wampom Band-dangle super-chute fruit dispenser" is one of today's most modern and efficient fruit cutters. I often wonder how I could have lived without it!!! I bought one for each of my friends! Buy your's today by calling 1-900-212-WAMP or by ordering with the toll-free service(*2) listed below. This offer is not availabile in stores!!! Act now!
Prices may vary see actual store photo for details this has been a paid advertisement and actors involved may(*3) have been awarded monetary compensation.
Remember, that this would open up a whole bucket of smelly fish. Who's to say it will be used for good. (What would "used for good" mean, anyhow?)
This throws everything off kilter if not handled properly. Forget the over-crowding. What if some bozo starts making his own Arian race? What then? What about clones being used for slavery? Afterall, they're not the _real_ thing, right?
Hey, what the heck. I was all excited to learn all about KDE 2.1.x theming, got the theme tutorial from IBMs web site (registration suprisingly painless, by the way) and started sifting through it only to find that it's basically ALL FOR KDE 1.x, Environment with the "Ugliest Themes on the Planet(TM)"!!! Can't someone (mosfet?) get something better going? The last thing we need are $3000 dollar prizes awarded to UGLY KDE 1.x themes!

Not that I've tried it, but I hear that Galeon is quite a snappy browser. Wouldn't this mean that it wasn't all Mozilla's fault?
Well, this all makes sense, and I remember the thing about the extended partitions, but I'll have to go do some reading, anyhow, just to make sure. Thanks for the reminder & great post.
Hey, this sounds like a decent idea, actually. But a quick question. I haven't played with partitions in a while. Can I blow away one partition and repartition it into 2 new ones, then rewrite the tables, without harming the/home and a windows partition I also have?

How easy is it to setup a root reiserfs partition? I made my/home a reiserfs after 2.4.1 came out but I've been waiting for 8.0 to hopefully do a reinstall (root only) and then have both partitions resier'ed. Is this easy enough?
Do you have to use an expert mode, or are you given a choice?
This year's models have ATRAC3 which allows
2 and 4x compression with none and minimal loss of quality.

Well sure. But the ripping is done automatically when you play the CD. You just direct the output to the usb audio device.

You forgot about the anti-aliased fonts. You can't beat having those around, especially in the brower.
