Nope, MPlayer doesn't do menus (at least not at this time)... there is a player for linux that does menus , but i forget the name.
Anyway, no menus is fine for me, since i buy dvd's for teh video, not the menus:)
also, in reply to your photoshop comment, have you tried the GIMP? it's not *quite* at the level of photoshop (the main feature it's missing is CMYK color support) but it should be just as good if your doing standard RGB images (for a website or whatnot)
1. Crappy multimedia support in the form of DVD software, mpeg4/divx and other video codecs, sound drivers, etc.
Try MPlayer... this is the best video player i've seen, it supports DVD's, DivX, a number of windows AVI codecs, Quicktime (no Sorenson though:( ), and less popular formats like iD's CIN format (Quake2 movies) and VIVO formats (only used for pr0n AFAIK)
Politicions don't really care about the corporations unless it helps them get elected. If helping civil liberties gets them elected, that's what they'll go for.
Heres how I feel: DON'T use linux in the "average joe-shmoe desktop environment". At least not in the conventional way.
Instead, get a project going to make an OS _targeted_ for the desktop. Even feel free to use Linux/*BSD kernels and librarys. Just don't have what the normal Linux distro tends to be - A very UNIX like system with X and maybe KDE or GNOME slapped on top.
Just get a bunch of parts and a breadboard [basically a circuit board that you can plug parts and wires into w/o soldering, then you transfer your circuit to a 'real' board]
iD has NEVER, I repeat, _NEVER_ given away their games (as your one sentence about the RIAA seems to imply)... Even though the full sources for Wolf, Doom, Quake, and Quake2 are out, you still need to actually posess the game to play it (source without data is useless)
I, for one, own Starcraft, Warcraft I & II, Diablo, and Diablo II - I payed MY money for them.... And i play on nothing but BnetD servers. Battle.net is horrible... i've had nothing but bad experiences on it.
OK, I can't resist :)

A better way would be to mail the sysadmin at a specific date... it woudn't do much good to echo somehting out of the blue if you're, say, making a tar backup and have a huge list of files whizzing by the screen.

Isn't this kind of a statement of the obvious?

yes, exactly... I personally think that OpenBeOS looks promising in this area

The AIM screenname SmarterChild is a very annoying (and very easy to piss off) bot... it can be fun to talk to sometimes though
The thing is, with violent movies and games, most people don't *fantisize* about killing people, they just do it in the game or see it on the movie.
However, the whole object of kiddie pr0n (real and virtual) is to get someone fantisizing about having sexual contact with a child...
Violent movies/games _can_ help to push someone over the edge, provided they 'fantasize' about killing people to an unhealthy level.

then it woudln't be id's game, it would be your game running on their engine
You do know that you can disable anime stories in your /. user settings?
easy... the MPAA has nothing to do with Anime DVDs

and then get them to discuss which one is better :)
This is a computer class, not a combat survival class
Um, NO... He was severely depressed when he wrote it, but he got over it.
No.
Death & Rebirth is coming out in June. If you've seen the series, don't bother with it.
End Of Evangelion has been delayed until Sept./Oct.
Aparently only the first disc had this problem
Although being on at midnight didn't help. I don't know many non-anime-fan people who have even heard of it, let alone watched it.
buckets of spam and power outages for the rest of their lives.
Umm, don't most of us get that already?
How about something abnormal - they should have there penis severed like a troll above me said
I'm sure it will be out of reach of the average /. geek for a while... but it looks really cool

How about a beowulf cluster of these?
That comes from the Plutonium.
We have Vorbis... Now we have to wait for Tarkin and hope it is as good as/better than DivX

Dropping orcs isn't fun when your the one they're being dropped on.
