I agree that these things will affect the decisions of many people, don't forget that John Edwards, who would seem to be the archetype for a presidential candidate lost to both a woman and a "black".
Obviously the diversity is fundamentally good, but I also think it a combined ticket has strategic value. It totally changes the game. Republicans wont know what's hitting them when all the disenchanted voters come out to support something real.
Though it wont happen, cause I don't think Clinton will take second banana when Obama gets the nomination.
While I was disappointed that my Prius averaged about 50 mpg, as opposed to the advertised 60, I didn't not feel ripped off for a couple reasons. First, 50 mpg is still damn good, but more importantly it's just a nice car.
I really don't understand when people say that "It takes 10 years to pay off the difference". Difference from what? Are these people comparing the Prius to a Ford Escort?
I paid more for the Prius than I did for the Matrix before it, but it's a lot nicer car. It handles better, it's got a super cool touch screen with all kinds of goodies like bluetooth hands-free, and a backup camera. It's got a better sound system, and IMO just looks like a nicer car. I've got the smart-key with the push button starter, and security system.
That's not even counting the tax deductions.
Plus, it's not just about MPG, the emissions are obviously much lower.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not sniffing my own farts here. I'm just saying that as a Prius owner, the cost was worth it, hybrid or not.
At Java One, sun talked about the possibility of an embeddable application server, that could run locally, and dynamically sync with the server based on connectivity. That solves the problem for web-apps, but what about my development environment? I guess there are still ways to handle that. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
I for one felt good when I woke up this morning and windows update had automatically patched my Vista machine.
The general tone that Vista seems to get is, "Hey, Vista sucks cause it's insecure. Oh wait, they're trying to make it more secure, that sucks too. Windows Sucks!"
The UAC whining is particularly annoying. People say Windows is unstable because users are stupid enough to really think that email they just got has Naked Pictures of Britney Spears! So Microsoft attempts to make it better by trying to prevent people from INSTALLING malicious code on their computer, and that's stupid too. Not only that, but people are whining about Cancel/Allow when Ubuntu does the same thing, but actually requires you to input a password. And on top of that, when you bring that up, people say Microsoft is just doing another thing Linux has been doing for years!
It's all stupid narrow-minded hypocrisy.
I personally believe that the increasing amount of FUD being posted about MS here at slashdot is just a response to MS finally looking like they're getting their act together again.
Seriously, I am in love with this man. My wife says she's going to buy me a shirt with a heart and a big picture of his face in the middle. I'd wear it everyday.
I saw a TV Program about something Phillips developed a few years ago, for the kitchen of the future. They showed a table cloth that you could put electric candles, heated plates, and even a food tester on.
If I read the title of this comment out of context, I would have honestly thought you were talking about Steve Jobs.
Not to say that Ballmer isn't a jackass, but Jobs has made PLENTY of arrogant claims without any real-world basis other than it's what he tells himself as he stares into the mirror for an hour every morning. Also he's naked.
Vista is the first operating system that I've been happy with out of the box. I still have the default background and theme. The only personalization I did was add some gadgets to the side bar, and make the desktop icons bigger.
As far as my development environment goes, that seems to change every week anyway, so...
I had about ten domains down today, from about 1:00 PM to about 2:30 PM. When I pinged the name servers, the response was sporadic. I just hope the same thing doesn't happen when the old DST date roles around.
Sure there was random humor, and it was still funny. I've heard a lot of TV people say that people want the same thing over and over.
Two of the most successful shows on television, Seinfeld, and the Simpsons, don't have any dramatic recurring plots. There's no character development, Bart Simpson is the same as he ever was. It's the same thing time and time again, with different jokes. It's my opinion that that's what people like with comedy shows like this.
I got the impression that someone at Fox was pressuring Cohen and the like to add more meaning-full plots to the show, thusly developing the relationship between Fry and Leela. This detracted from the sort of random Simpson-esque humor that made the show so great, which ultimately turned off fans resulting in Fox cancelling the show.
Is there any truth to this? Do you know if they will continue to develop Fry and Leela's relationship in the new episodes? Will Coolio be involed?

Then the same half a million downloaded it again the next day for the bug fixes.
Y2K called, it want's it's BSOD joke back!
Agreed. I say congratulations.
I think it supposed to be 400,000 * 3 + 40,000,000

Hmm, that didn't happen for me...
Good Question.

Thank you for posting one non-biased positive article about Vista.
I'm really starting to get tired of every other Slashdot article turning into a Vista bashing forum.
I agree. I may be wrong, but I don't think MS has every referred to it as an iPod killer. From what I've read, they have very realistic expectations.
This will be an argument for the ages. Just like people still argue over digital vs analog, solid state vs tubes, lossy vs lossless.
There are audiophiles out there that say you can improve the sound quality of a CD by running a green marker around the outside edge.
As long as it's possible to make things better, people will say they can tell the difference. And maybe some can.
Or we could just have all the SUV's in the world go to the galapagos islands and point their exhaust upwards as to move the earth away from the sun.
The we could have Richard Nixon declare it "Soccer Mom Party Week"

I heard that Vista studied at a Madasa, when it was younger.
This is HUGE!
Haha, a security hole in a Mac! Look everyone, they suck like M$!
Let's make a big deal about it and pretend like whatever operating system we happen to enjoy is perfect.
Wasn't Joel just complaining about how complex Vista's power button is, because it gives you too many choices?
I don't get this guy.
These dudes are stuck back in the day where you're product had to be marketable to everyone. Different strokes people.
I disagree. doodlekit is exactly that. It's written in Rails, and still very stable and manageable.

He's done them both. (fry and zap)
