    I think to have this issue in proper perspective it helps to Santorum's original words which started his conflict with Savage:

    You have to ask yourself, how would you feel if someone said such things about your sexuality/how you to relate to those you love.

    I'd gladly see this whole line of discussion marked offtopic, but I hope that facts have some impact on your bootstrappy theory of social mobility.

    I wouldn't count on it. People who think like that do so to help themselves feel okay about taking without giving back and cheating the country by paying an unfairly low tax rate.

    Elon Musk just doesn't seem to add up.

    He is only in his 30s, is on his second marriage, has 5 kids is the CEO/venture capitalist for 2 companies, both doing innovating engineering.

    I'm guessing it is just a matter of winning the lottery by being born rich, born intelligent, born with a innovative/push forward temperament, born to parents who will bring those gifts out ( or at least not fuck up the kid enough to shut those things down ) and lots and LOTs of caffeine.

    Am I missing something?

    How does any person, let alone one his 30s end up with all of those situations?

    A lot of women HATE bald heads, but it turns on some women.

    Stewart had it going on with the accent, attitude and keeping himself in shape. Those things helped override the ordinary bald-hating and made him into sex symbol. Sadly, like many sex symbols he likely plays for the other team so it doesn't do him any good.

    I feel fortunate to have a really good Microcenter on my way home from work. The trip is always worth the hassle as they always have what I need and have people who can help me find it fast.

    Not so with the other tech stores and the service is so uncaring that I feel like I am in a fast food restaurant.

    I could be wrong, but the preview shot I saw of Windows 8 with the missing "start" button makes it look like Microsoft is trying to do the same thing as Canonical.

    I'm guessing neither org wants to look like it has the same old frumpy desktop.

    If that doesn't work, Canonical is only 1 6 month release away from going back to something more PC and keyboard friendly. Microsoft on the other hand will have a much harder mess to clean up from.

    The article didn't make it clear where the stem cells came from. Googling on the term they used it seems that some of those type of stem cells come from bone marrow but it didn't say if that was exclusively so.

    If the putty needs stem cells from fetuses, the Republicans/Christians will try to shut it down. I can't see it working if the stem cells come from bone marrow either. Harvesting stem cells from bone marrow doesn't sound easy......and may have ethical issues also.

    It seems like there are people and orgs who would want an Ubuntu dist with the KDE. It also seems like the financila needs wouldn't be too great. They just have to take the KDE and make it work with Ubuntu.

    How possible is it that Kubuntu can get alternate funding?

    I just posted a rant on my FB page about how juvenile American culture is that so many people are upset over a musician doing a "naughty gesture" during the Superbowl half time show and how the news media is STILL talking about a woman's nipple being seen during the same show 8 years prior.

    This article about India makes me feel better about the US. Ours isn't the only culture that needs to grow up.

    Assuming Google doesn't have a "sendCopyOfUsersDataToGoogle()" function buried in the Chrome code base.....which is a very real possibility, Chrome *might* be the most secure browser in that if anyone rapes the user, it will be Google themselves.

    If Chrome is that well built, it might be worthwhile to use one of the open source recompilations that check for and remove spy code.

    Still, you have to trust that the developers are good enough to spot it.

    All Linux distros are _mostly_ the exact same thing once they are installed and set up the way you want it.

    A distro that makes the user do MORE installation and configuration is not superior, unless you are a hobbyist who likes to tweak as an end in itself or you have a need for a special customization.

    Otherwise, it is like saying that a car a person has to finish putting together and painting is superior to a car anyone can just drive off the lot and being *using* to make their lives easier.

    Probably not.

    A number ( not all ) of SDers are geeks who lived in the world of science fiction as children because it was less intimidating than the real world. They never learned how to get a decent level of satisfaction from interacting with people and having a life on planet Earth.

    So......, a life without Vulcan women built like Jolene Blalock flying across the galaxy and beating their door to have sex with them and then take them on fantastic adventures seems kind of lackluster to these people.

    At one time the United States didn't have rocket technology either. My point is if you are going to spend a large amount of government money to do develop new technology and do something ostentatious......why not do something that will have a direct benefit for many people.

    The government could even make money back on developing electric car technology.
