The earlier an autistic child starts therapy the better the chances are that s/he will do better. Better diagnostic techniques that let parents know about autism in their children sooner is valuable.
You know, I am told that posting this link contributes to a web site that reveals embarrassing information about Santorum every time someone Googles on his name.
My father was never a reader, as long as I can remember. In his mid 70s he was also a computerphobe.
One day his wife told me that he finally broke down and had cataract surgery ( I didn't even know he had a problem ).
He took my advice, got a Mac and took the Mac classes. He learned enough to make his own web site and I can now communicate with him via email and have read links to articles I send to him.
The gadget lover in me has thought about getting a sunlight lamp for years. I've heard that they can damage eyes or cause cancer. Is this true? If not, can anyone tell what is a reasonable price and or model of one?
Would melatonin work just as well for circadian rhythm issues?
Animals do not have "rights", at least not in the sense humans do. A human has right to live. A pigeon does not have that right
According to who? The answer is "nobody". Humans don't have rights either. It is a concept invented by human beings to help guarantee that behaviors we find objectionable don't happen to people.
The Animal Rights movement is about doing the same for animals. Trying to provide a man-made guarantee ( or the closest to it ) that behaviors people find objectionable don't happen to animals.
Even going back to the day when forums on the internet were email lists, there would always be some immature person who was a regular who switched aliases.
It would be so obvious from their pattern of writing that their new alias would seem as effective as a disguise as merely putting dark glasses on.
I can't believe I am saying this, as I think FB is evil, but I don't see what the problem is as long as the organization doesn't want you on their social network after hours, on your own time.
It is going to be for the job, work related, so anything you post about is going to be about work........not your personal life. Just make a separate account.
I have several friends who work for non-profits that require them to have Facebook accounts. Each friend has a separate account for their personal lives. Nobody would find anything aside from informational postings about what their org is doing on their work accounts.
The drink green tea, getting a health boost with their caffeine, instead of the bone rotting chemicals in soda.
The drink it hot so they don't guzzle it and get swamped in caffiene and they drink it out of tiny tea cups through out the day giving themselves a steady burn without a crash.
A number of people outside of the United States have been mentioning that their countries got rid of their equivalent of the penny years ago.......and the world didn't come to an end.
Still......
I remember a number of years ago, there was a true story about a programmer who wrote some kind of banking software. He did something such that he got a fraction of a penny on every transaction that went through the bank, deposited into a secret account.
After a few years he was quite wealthy and the only reason he got caught was he couldn't suppress his desire to brag.
Lesson learned: even little amounts add up.
How would people feel if they were told that because of rounding up to a nickle, they could have had an extra $100, $10 etc at the end of the year, 5 years, etc?
How would they feel knowing that they made a "donation" to corporate America of several thousand dollars over the course of their life time, for which those companies gave them *nothing*?
Given the way a number of my Republican friends reacted to the laws to get rid of incandescent light bulbs ( portable heaters ), I'm surprised there aren't TEA party rallies comparing President Obama to Hitler for this move along with discussions of how to prepare for the invasion of black UN helicopters.
I have a half gallon glass jar I have been filling with pennies since the 90s. It is almost full. I'm sure there are a few pre-1982 copper pennies in there. It is my money. I think the government should let me sell those pennies for copper.
It got marked up to a "4", so I'm guessing a number of other people got it and in addition to your possibility there is the chance that someone is temporarily not to quick on the uptake.
Um...no. The drug that would help people pay attention, be calm and think started running out when the TEA party ( people famous for not doing any of the three ) started appearing.
Mabye, we just trade nuclear waste, nuclear accidents and getting sick for a little more fresh water.
No thanks.
There are other solutions, like food choice, conservation/efficiency, other alternative energies.
Please don't hand me the nuclear fan-boy rant about better designs. I believe there ARE better nuclear power plant designs, but as long as there is nuclear power there will always be nuclear accidents.
If you live on the same street as a nuclear power plant and have the resources to live where you want, I will listen a little more.
A few Middle Eastern men show up at a Florida flight school with one blurting out that he didn't need to know how to land. All sorts of information about them makes it to the FBI, but the FBI does nothing. Later they fly a plane into a building.
Instead of removing the incompetent people and practices at the FBI you go against the goals of your party for small, cheap government by creating the white elephant of the Department Of Homeland security......and.....you screw over the freedoms of your fellow Americans by forcing them to be groped or nuked to get on a plan.
My father is in his mid 70s and had cataract surgery.
Before the surgery, for years, he hardly read anything and he was the most tech phobic of computer phobes, never saying why.
After the surgery he started reading books, I convinced him to get an iMac ( instead of Vista, this was a few years ago )and to take the Apple store's classes.
Years later he has his own web sites and sends me email.
You can keep your UV vision, I have a minor miracle of my own.
Well, back around 2000 Apple had a lap top that did bear a striking resemblance to a George Forman grill.

What do you use for web based email?

This link does the same for Romney.
Oops. I am off topic and disrespectful of thugs and clowns.....um Republican candidates for the presidency.
It is BS like this from Adobe that will not make me shed a tear when Flash is eventually replaced.

Cool.
Articles like this make me think using Chrome is only moderately safer than using a web browser made by Facebook, if they made one.
Asians figured this out centuries ago.

The final SD thread, coming in our lifetimes, will be about the debate to get rid of hard currency altogether as most transactions will be electronic.

Dude, go get some caffeine :)
Anyone notice that the shortage of adderall and the rise of the TEA party happened about the same time?
Coincidence? I think not ....

I wish I had moderator points left this week to mod you down. Try acting like a grown up. If you do, you might actually get some from a decent woman.

How nice to receive a reply on slashdot that isn't a nasty gram or some kind of penis waving or (arrested) adolescent posturing.
Thank You!
