But those numbers in my bank account end up equaling a roof over my head and food on my table. It doesnt matter one bit how short of time I can recoup my investment or how many tax rebates I get if I cannot afford the initial up front payment without losing my mortgage or starving.
I know thats the extreme other end of the argument, but it is a reality for a lot of people.
Yeah, that would probably work (can the PS Eye pick up other wavelengths?) but since they can change what color the ball glows, it can be used to differentiate between players, as a health bar, as a signifier for the function the controller is used for at the time (like blue for magic, red for sword), etc.
The website I saw the comment on first left out the console part as well. Guess I should have looked for a more reputable source. (I think the article I first read was a guy standing at E3 using twitter, I can no longer find the site either)
I sold my Wii in anticipation of the Move. Motion controls are kinda gimiky, but are REALLY fun when done well (and you're drunk). And I much, much, much prefered using the Wiimote to aim in RE4 than trying to use my analog sticks to aim in RE5, so hopefully they will have decent support for the various shooters when its released.
Before you ask why I would sell my Wii, it was gathering dust and I've turned into a trophy whore. Theres something about having a list of accomplishments to show where my day off has gone, now that I'm an adult and have limited free time.
Well, Newell said that the PS3 version of Portal 2 was going to be "the best version" (paraphrased), so hopefully it wont suck.
And as to the reason for the giant glowing ball, the software knows the exact size of the ball, so if it appears smaller, it knows its farther away, etc. I doubt it would work as well with just an LED or a lit endcap.
Except that I already own a PS3 and would have to spend ~$200 for a Wii or 360. Also, what effort is involved in turning the PS3 into a media server? All I had to do was install some software on my pc and tell it what I wanted shared. (PMS-linux on Ubuntu 10.04)
Thats not really accurate. Speeding by itself is not unsafe. Speeding in sub-optimal conditions is unsafe.
Also, if the limit is 50, but the flow of traffic is going 70, the few cars that ARE going 50 are impeding the flow of traffic and are themselves a hazard. Arguing whether its right or wrong is moot because its just the way it IS.
Most of those races see upwards of 60,000 fans, usually over 100,000. They dont need cops to issue speeding tickets, they need cops to direct the stop and go traffic that surrounds such events.
We are running the Samsung un55c7000 tv, Samsung BD-C6900 BR player, as for the glasses.. I have no idea. All three in-store 3D displays I have seen in town use the same glasses, but they arent the same as the ones that are sold with the tv.
Yes it was actual 3D content, the "Monsters vs Aleins" demo disc they sent with the display.
I'm 90% sure its Active 3D.
As far as I'm aware, 1.4 and 1.3 have the same connectors, but I'm not sure pin-wise.
As to the hz question, I dunno. Samsung's hz rating in the info has always confused me. (I manually set it to 120 (Automotion-plus or whatever they're calling it today), but it displays "1080i@60" when watching OTA or our stores loop. It also displays "1080p@24" when a BD is playing, no matter what I set the hz to)
I remember seeing an interview of Smith's a few months after ID4 came out where he said something like "Before this movie, people would see me on the street and say 'Hey Will, can I get a pic/autograph' after the movie I get 'Excuse me Mr. Smith, can I trouble you for an autograph?'"
The way he said it with his facial expression though had me laughing.
I have to say though that I was 16 when ID4 came out, I waited in line to see it on opening day and I loved it. Sure it had a crappy plot, but I wasnt there for plot, I wanted to see lots of special effects and I was not disapointed on that front. (I was also with a girl I had a crush on for 6mo and we hooked up that night, so that may color my fond memories a little;)
To be honest, I have no idea. I have my pc and my PS3 hooked up to the same tv right now. I only use the media server so I can access my whole library from my PSP (and before you ask, mkv playback PS3mediaserver->PS3->PSP is choppy as all get out on my netowrk).
Actually, thats exactly what I'm saying. If I sell someone a tv and they need it delivered to a different state/county/city than the one the store is in, our system calculates their tax rate based on the delivery address.
If you buy something at Sears and have it delivered to a different state/county/municipality than the one it was sold in, we charge the tax rate of the place it is being delivered to. And Sears has a store in hundreds of locations across the country, so if they can do it for every store, Amazon can do it as well.
I think Amazon just doesnt want to because it would cost a lot of money and make their prices less attractive.
Besides corn farmers, most Americans are against the corn subsidy for the very reasons you mention. We cant even get real sugar in our soft drinks because its too expensive to import the amounts of sugar we'd need to supply our demands.
I personaly would love to be able to choose between corn syrup and cane sugar for my stomach AND my car.
You may be suprised at how big some of the rats get in NoCal...
Seriously though, I think cursive is going to go the way of caligraphy. Sure lots of people know how to do it, but its no longer mainstream or taught in most schools.
A few posts up someone mentioned fountain pens and quills. I too used to enjoy writing with a fountain pen, and the few times we had to use quills in art class was fun as well. Its kind of like knitting/sewing, sure you can go out and buy a scarf, but some people find enjoyment in those things. Hell, I've even found enjoyment in banging away at a piece of metal on an anvil. An almost useless skill in modern society, but some people still find it amusing.
I dont really think cursive should be taught in schools anymore though. Unless its practiced constantly, most people cursive looks like chicken-scratch.
Please forgive my rambling and over use of the word "enjoy". First cup of coffee still 3/4 full.
Its used in a lot of games actually. In Killzone for sniping, Uncharted uses it for aiming a grenade toss (and a few other areas), LBP uses it for head and body angle. Burnout used it for something as well, but I turned it off when I found the option so I am not sure what, exactly, it did.
I agree with you about it though. As long as its just a here and there implementation and not the main way to control the game, it can be fun.

I'd rather use the scientists to come up with a better/easier/faster/more amusing way of getting rid of the politicians.
How much energy is stored in a politician anyways?

... amen (baaaaaa-aaa)
Did you have to look that up or did you remember it? (I'm half-ashamed to say I know that whole verse by heart)
I was thinking of the rest of the song and how it was surprisingly appropriate for this thread:
"This is necessary, this is necessary, life feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on..." -Disgustipated, from the album Undertow, by Tool
That should read "1080i@30"
I even edited my post first too. /doh

I was assuming the same thing as well, but when the 3D Samsung display was set up at the store I work at, the cable was 1.3a.
When I hit info on the tv, it said 1080p@60. So I am wondering if its maybe just a lower bitrate on the picture quality or something.
sarcasm...

Theres a an app called "PS3 Media Server" for Linux and Windows that will convert mkv files on the fly and allow them to be viewed by the PS3.
Its running fine on my Ubuntu 9.10 box (C2D 2.4ghz w/4GB ram). Though some avi's still wont work, most of all my other media will.
For clarity, its only for delivered merchandise. If you dont have it delivered, you pay the tax for the stores location.

Well played sir. Very well played indeed. ... from BLAMO
But how will we know if its true or not? We already read about the Alaska missiles and that wasnt true... I feel so deceived...
