Have you ever given a public speech? It is FAR better to speak from a detailed outline than read something word for word.
Of course, this means you have to know what the hell you're talking about. It seems like the only serious problem was the teleprompter and lack of a stage director. There is absolutely no excuse for the lack of a physical backup for the prompter OR for a competent stage director for a coordinated presentation.
This gadget looks just as useful as the CD-I, and will probably be as popular.
I still have nightmares of playing "games" on the CD-I. "Shoot the guardian's lights out!" Aaahhh! You shouldn't be asked to play a light gun game with a remote control.
But I did have some fun with the Art of the Czar's disc. Pretty stuff. The Smithsonian Museum collection was neat too. Mostly because they were my first encounters with CD-ROM content.
I respectfully disagree. I place Futurama above Family Guy, Simpsons, ATHF, Sealab, Robot Chicken, and Home Movies. Superior to all in animation, writing, acting, and plot. And it had an amazing mix of emotional moments and hilarious comedy. And an absolutely stunning number of tie-ins, in-jokes, frame-jokes, etc.
HDTV in a physical medium will always and only use a HDMI connection. While some HD players will support component (and other) connections, the HDTV content will be downscaled to DVD resolution.

From Podolskiy's web page:
"Why study the NIMs? First and foremost, these materials are unique in a number of ways. Thus, they literary reverse some of the well-known fundamentals of modern optics."
That's a pretty apt description of tinnitus acutally. I don't notice mine until I'm in a quiet room. Then if I focus on it it gets much louder (or probably just more noticed) and feels like a pressure on my head. Fun!:-)
All of those things you wish for in your post are already available on a mac.
I just set my grandmother up with her first mac. I am the admin account, but the machine just boots straight into her user anyway. All she sees are big buttons for Web and Email. If she wanted spreadsheets and such I'd give her open office. If she wanted photo editing I'd put iPhoto in the dock.
While I haven't set her up with automated internet backups, I have them via.mac.
Block out everything except the constant ringing? Oh boy that doesn't sound like fun.
I'm semi-lucky though as I've had tinnitus as long as I can remember so it doesn't bother me as much as it would someone who knows what absolute quiet is like.
The funny thing is that my hearing is excellent. I can do the standard weird hearing tricks like hearing if a tv is turned on (even from another room), the high pitched buzz of scan-o-matics at department stores, and don't get me started on the pain caused by those electronic dog whistles (imagine a dentist's drill made entirely of sound going straight into your ear canal--it's like I can physically feel the sound tearing into my eardrum).
Human drivers don't work 99.9% of the time now. Drunk, on the cell phone, sleepy, or just plain not paying attention: there are a lot crashes out there.
Just wait. Eventually turning control of your vehicle to a computer system won't even really be a choice. Sure a few will pay the uber insurance and licensing premiums for a manual license, but most of us will opt for the emergency car control (ECC) license that allows you to steer the car while the autobrakes take it to a controlled stop if something like a massive system crash occurs. The activation of the autobrakes sends a signal to all other cars in the area and shuts down the system status "Ok" broadcast so the other cars know to avoid you and System knows to route a tow truck your way.
The problem is...did the rape need to be depicted as graphically as it was?
Yes. Rape shouldn't be easy to watch. It should make you uncomfortable and disturbed because it's so deeply and utterly wrong. The more you abstract it, the easier it is to ignore (willfully or not) the point the show is trying to make!
Torture and rape are wrong. Utterly and completely. But I also think killing is wrong.
I think we can both agree that there are times when the military needs to kill as a justified act. Does this mean that there could be a time when torture (rape is considered a torture) is justified?
Compelling questions and I, for one, am extremely happy that we have a show that it willing to pose them.

Almost. Being alone in a foreign country in which very few people speak English and needing to learn the language if you want to eat is a tad better because, you know, survival.
Like...me? Who doesn't have firefox at work? Here at UNC it's the only thing we use. IE is practically banned and Mozilla is fading fast as more and more people learn about extensions.
You can't learn a foreign language from a book, especially your first foreign language!
Look up your local community college and enroll in a spanish class. Failing that look for a tutor or group learning sessions. They should be pretty easy to find as Spanish is widely taught.
Using adblock and noscript that whole article loads onto one page. The only clue I had that lesser browsers would be annoyed is the header text saying next page.:-)
One "expert" who is right vs. dozens of people who are wrong is not a fair fight. Especially since the people who are wrong have more time and energy to keep the article looking the way they like it.

I guess you don't know what science fiction is then.
Science Fiction doesn't have to mean spaceships, laser swords, and a dystopian future.
Fantasy doesn't have to mean horses and knights.
There have been great science fiction stories with horses. Great fantasy stories with spaceships.
Did you think that Star Wars was science fiction just because it has metal boxes that fly between planets?

Sucks to be screwed over, eh?
The Kirby game is crack in a cartridge I swear. So awesome.
Many of those games came out at the start of the CD-ROM age. They called 'em interactive movies and they were as boring as they sound.
The closest game I've played that's fun and matches with what you describe is Indigo Prophecy (Farenheit outside of the US)

Nah. That would make it harder for the government to track criminals and terrorists.
Don't you like your money to be safer (i.e. not as stealable as cash) than your personal information?

Ah! Hello Deva!
I didn't only mean work, I simply meant "Yielding favorable or useful results; constructive."
As yes. Results. Like in the private sector. If Jack is only playing so that he can work better then he isn't really playing is he?

Sound is so much better on a console than my desktop, but admittedly only because my console is plugged into my home theater.
For some odd reason, it's always feels weird to play a PC game with surround sound, but seems perfectly natural for a console.
You shouldn't go through a stop light going 50! Even if its green!
