No reason to see anything sinister in that; in terms of JS performance which is all this article tests the latest dev build of chrome wouldnt give significantly different results.
Everyone that is going to read a browser JS performance test article already knows who the winner is, the IE9 results are what we click on it for - arent they?
Rather meaningless really. Of the 1319 responses to an online questionaire 1.2% (yes, thats a whole 16 people) were deemed to be "addicts". "Many" of those were deemed to be depressed. Whats that a whole 10 people?
Noone ever answers these things less than 100% honestly, do they?
Smells more like they asked their questions, stated the conclusions they were hoping to prove but failed utterly at having the data to back them up.
Any attempt to find websites relating to or even mentioning this language (or the alleged book on it) yesterday completely failed: in fact the only sign of it was on a bug report against Google's Go complaining over the name.
These days finding a usable name for anything is bordering on impossible, someones 5minute project from years ago thats been long since abandoned can safely be ignored.
The software firm Electronic Arts has added a fifth requirement for itself: The game must be truly original.
Clearly that one was forgotten about long ago, these days its just endless sequels each containing fewer differences than the last. Originality was forgotten about long ago in favour of squeezing every last dollar out of a 'franchise'.
Sorry, the only reason MS have released this as a supposed "standard" is due to the on-going anti-trust investigations..NET is purely a MS "standard", and Id be willing to bet will never be of any significant use on any non-MS platform.
Just because you work for whats left of Corel doesnt mean you have to believe the hype..NET has so far been of no significance use to anyone except the PR merchants (and/. trolls). I doubt it ever will be.....
After reading that review I had the same opinion - my current Live! 5.1 card is more than good enough. I cant see that Ill choose to upgrade any time soon. I only replaced my old card (AWE32) since my old ISA card was no use on a new PCI only motherboard.
Of course the article seems to spend far more time commenting on the bundled software (which is of very little interest to most people Id assume) and the features of the driver rather than actually reviewing the hardware itself, so its difficult to see from it alone what the major selling points of this card are. Really it looks like a me-too product in order to keep up with their competitors - people would always rather buy the new product over the older but almost equally capable one.
Then again since I probably only use ~10% of the features of my current card I doubt Creative are trying to market this thing to me.
Like the vm changes? That was just a driver change that anyone could swap in or out of the stable 2.4 kernel, eh?
There is (as Im sure your well aware) a huge difference in how a (supposedly) stable kernel is maintained in its early life (when its really still in development) and after the new development tree is opened.
The VM work had to be done, either by tweaking what was there before or the virtual rewrite. If your using 'Linus' kernels rather than what your distribution chooses to provide (& test) then you are expected to be able to choose what works for you.
2.4 is now into maintenance mode, where it should be bug fixes and new drivers etc only. That does not mean they should be assumed to work for everyone - if you dont have the time (and the patience) to test them to ensure that they work for you then you should be using whatever Debian/Redhat/whoever chooses to test and ship.
The core kernel will remain stable, new drivers will be added where they have no effect on the rest of the kernel - so its the users choice if they want the new drivers or not.
So what your saying is that you started a business to develop this video codecs and now its complete you have no idea what to do with the code?
This is insane and shows everything that was wrong with the way VC money was being invested in recent times. What did you expect to happen - that the problems of having no way to turn a profit or even see any income would have solved themselves by the time you had developed the code?
Having had 2 previous companies attempt the same thing (and Im assuming there was more to it than just a simple renaming) this also indicates that things may not have been very well planned - youve clearly failed twice already.
Best of luck finding a way to make use of your product, and hopefully youll think a bit more before going for attempt 4!
Sourceforge.net obviously fits into their new renamed company as a large scale advert for what can be done with their SourceForge "product" - but how does their collection of websites fit into their new non-Linux strategy?
/., NewsForge, Linux.com, freshmeat (and the rest) all look as if theyll be of no interest to the "new" VA - so what happens next?
Given the current state of web advertising I cant imagine that anyone would want to buy them, so VA will probably be stuck with them for a while to come whether they like it or not.
and thats only the beginning of the ridiculous errors. This was clearly written by someone who isnt old enough to remember the wait for Doom to be released. "released upon an unsuspecting world" - funny, thats not how I remember it.
I gave up on the article before the middle - Doom creating the market for "add-in sound and graphics cards" was the final straw. If only there were some people over the age of 16 with half a brain writing for these hardware sites.....
I can only conclude that almost 20% of security professionals surveyed are utterly incompetent.

Well, not really Maps are there for all of Ireland, but the search functionality appears to only cover Northern Ireland - so far at least.
Its been exploited in phishing attempts since at least Feb 16th: http://lists.surbl.org/pipermail/discuss/2005-Febr uary/004192.html
Quite why they thought running an open redirector was a good idea is anyones guess.

One of these days the ACs will get a clue ....

Anyone want to buy /.? Going real cheap :)
