  1. Science - The Real Truth on Neutrinos, Muons and the Standard Model · · Score: 2

The interesting thing to think about in all of this is that the goal of science is to find the "real" and underlying "truth". Obviously we are still a little way out from this "holy grail" however I would venture to say we have made considerable progress. Somehow, somewhere out there the truth does exist however, and we simply have to find it and realize it. Some would argue that there is no real truth since the universe is inherently chaotic and is constantly reinventing itself. If this were the case then the everyday ordinary things we take for granted (such as the earth revolving around the sun) could just all of a sudden change. Of course our evidence points otherwise, so we can probably safely assume that the "truth" does actually "exist". Now we just need to find it. You are correct in the saying science is a bunch of theories, because in fact until we hit upon the full truth we only have guesses, hypothesis and "partial truths" that may explain one phenomena or another. That is what makes science, particularily physics, so interesting it is a constant quest for "truth" which will never really end until we reach the omega point.

Heck I even had one of those cool calculator watches I won in a spelling bee in grade school. The problem here is functional size, no one has finger small enough to actually realistically operate one of these things, additionaly a PDA screen the size of a nickel would quickly destroy the 20/20 vision of most PDA users who already spend half their days straining their necks and eyes looking at glaring CRT tubes.

This one is a dead horse, and I'm not being pessimistic.

What we need is a smart car that can determine if the driver's alcohol blood level is above the legal limit and affectively shut itself off preventing the drunken driver from taking to the road, it could even be smart enough to call a predetermined number (a close relative etc...) or even call a local cab.

If somehow the driver was able to bypass the systems shutdown security it would then call 911 and alert the police of the possible DUI on the road endangering other local motorists...

Ok, forget about .biz, .info, .whatever. The heart of the problem is with the institution called "ICANN". Who ever made ICANN the governing body of domains and the internet structure as we know it? Seems to me they sort of self appointed themselves and now have a system in place to keep their little hierarchy afloat...

I think a total reorganization is called for, something akin to the United Nations but for ruling and policing the World Wide Web. Its not called the World Wide Web for nothing. There are no political or geographic boundaries.

I propose that we create an organization called the World Wide Web Consortium. Each country who has a cctld would elect or appoint two representatives from their country. Also to make things more fair the countries with the largest Internet presence would form a sub-group within this framework much like the security council within the U.N.

As a whole this body would then make decisions about country domains and new TLD's like the .biz .info etc...

There would be no one company controlling a monopoly such as Network Solutions (ie. Verisign) or Affilias or NeuBiz. These companies might be contracted however the in the long term best interests, the organization and administration of TLD's should be directly handled the WWWC.

    Just some food for thought...

That is why your not finding a suitable solution. Besides most hosting companies like ourselves tend to develop our own solution to the problem and then why would we give away our proprietary control panel after spending countless of dollars and man hours working on it. You are asking the impossible really. If your new to the webhosting business then be prepared to spend a lot of hours developing and honing your business. There is no "quick fix" just lots of hard work and long nights programming little niceties for your customers benefit.

Some things you can find on the web and integrate or make your own, but most of these solutions at least require some cosmetic alterations and minimal configurations.

Sure the Genome is complex and at first glance it seems like an undauntable task to make any sense out of it, remember its a biological creation, not a mechanical, man made "computer". Its bound to be complex. However, what it needs to be "decoded" is some super computing power to crunch the numbers, do the math, and then, yes, we will have all of the answers. Now that we have the genome in all of its glory we just need to decode it or make sense of it. However it probably is not going to be a simple one on one correlation as some might have thought, multipe genes and protein combinations probably account for any given physical or mental characteristic of an organism. I leave my faith in the mind numbing, number crunching brute force of our modern computers that are rapidly becoming as complex as some of the biological "machines" that they are decoding.
