I was just given an iphone that was sent to us as warranty exchange. Battery life on this thing is terrible, and from what I've read, this is standard. Now, I'm comparing to the curve I was using before... With the curve, I could count on the battery lasting 3-5 days of lite use. I REA
On this thing, I can BARELY go the weekend. I unplugged before I left the office Friday afternoon, Monday morning on the way in, I got the "Your battery is low" message. And since it's not a standard USB plug, I couldn't just plug it in to the plethora of USB ports around. You'd think we'd be beyond the days of custom ports by now. I can count of finding USB power anywhere I can find a computer, in my car, friends houses, etc. So THANK YOU Motorola L2, and Blackberry Curve.
Screw you LG Shine and Apple iPhone.
(These are all phones I've had recent experience with.
If you're expecting him to get anywhere NEAR the FPS in crysis with his POS model that someone with that rig is getting you're smoking crack. I don't care HOW tweaked your computer is, if it doesn't have a comparable video card it's not going to happen.
Now, if he uses his nerddom to hack and sabatoge the fast computer, maybe. Or if he uses his supreme skills to write an oldschool demo that performs better on his particular kit than the supercard.... yeah. Or maybe if you set up the competition to where the computer can only be ran off of power generated by the friction generated heat of rabbits humping...
But unless you set up a rediculous(sp) scenario, a high end video card is almost always going to beat a low end or old one. The same is NOT true for a 4runner vs H2. Car analogy FAIL;)
And here you thought you just had to upgrade to be a good nerd. According to this post you have to make that piece of shit you already have perform miracles!
I'm using alltel, I'm paying $60 a month. I specifically picked them because they had a real UNLIMITED plan. Or they hid their cap better, but it wasn't 5GB anyway.
It's funny, even out in the boonies, every now and then my laptop will pick up a stray signal for just a second. I've walked around the yard trying to pinpoint a neighbor with no luck. Freak anomaly? Wifi on a truck/plane going by? Who knows.
No, not going to happen. We moved out to the boonies, where cable and DSL were not an option, but the ATT coverage map said we had the best 3G signal available.
Bought the 3G card, tried it at work. Got 5 bars, worked great. I could download 1.5Mb/sec all day long. Move to the house... 5 bars, still says 3G. IF I could get speedtest.net to give me the page, I would usually show about 100k. It would drop constantly. I had to return during the buyers remorse period.
Went to alltel and quickly got a new account (this was shortly after verizon bought them) with UNLIMITED data. It was the only unlimited anyone offered. Now I get 700 on the best days, but I can consistently connect to it.
Looked at hughesnet and wildblue, both had ridiculous terms, caps and latency.
Done right, I can see a mechanical battery change process... Much faster than gasoline fuel.
1. Pull up to red line. 2. 4 clamps grab wheels 3. car is left up in the air 2 ft, while spent batteries fall out, exit passenger side on conveyor belt. 4. new batteries come in at same time, put in proper position. 5. Car drops, latching in new batteries 6. clamps release wheels. 7. 0-60 in 4 seconds.
I could see a see a 4 second pit stop here.
Skip the 'lifting' process, and have them drop into a recess and you get rid of the GForce limitations on the driver. But you also make it so the system is embedded in the ground or the driver goes up/down a ramp.
Then again, remember how they want to shoot microwave power from space? Imagine if your power is beamed to you from the center of the track. (sounds dangerous) And then instead of restrictor plates, you get resistor plates.
Here on/. we're always bragging about find good use for old hardware. Well these guys did just that, and now you're going to chastise them for it.
You people have been asking for us to recycle our electronics for years now, bitching about throwing away cell phones, and their toxic batteries. This guys deserve some sort of award for this.
Sorry, I don't listen to Limbaugh, or any other talk radio for that matter. Didn't like bush, not a republican.
My point is that it seems to me, based on my own observations, not what I'm told, that the liberals are usually trying to use some sort of legislation to protect us from ourselves. Take for example the proposed soda tax.
So, I was saying that I don't think this thing should be banned for our own protection. I just think that any parent who uses this is a freakin idiot and if something bad happens should be tried for manslaughter.
don't worry. We do homework together every night, only takes 30 minutes at their age. We eat at the table together with no TV, internet doesn't come out until after they go to bed, and they each get prayers before bed. 5yo & 7yo
1 hours later... Fireman: WTF do you mean your child had a ball and chain strapped to their leg?! Retarded Parent: It was to help them study, and it was easily heavy enough for them to lift. Fireman: But it got stuck under the table because of the panic and now your child is a crispy critter. Policeman: Sir, please put your hands behind your back.
Heh, no I'm not some liberal pansy that doesn't believe in doing things that are harsh. I just don't care for stupid. If my kids dont' study I beat them with the ball and chain, not strap them to it!
the rest of the system is also in a pre-release state, with bugs that have since been fixed, default behaviors changed, UIs that were updated after usability tests showed an improvement, etc.
I thought all of those things were from the realm of BETA, and that a RC is largely the same code as RTM... That is of course, unless they find major bugs that would call for RC2. Additionally, windows update is happily running every day keeping my RC up to date, I would think by the time RTM is here, my system will be 98% the same. Doing a patch on the remaining 2% would be more like a hotfix than a service pack. However, I'm not an OS programmer, so these assumptions may be way off.
As someone with a little marketing experience, I am familiar with the concept of giving away your BEST (ultimate) demo in hopes that they'll buy your BEST version when the demo expires. But this is an entire OS. Erase all of your stuff and start over kind of pain. I think a large percentage would pay the extra $50 to get ulimate even though they don't need it JUST so they don't have to go through that rebuild process.
They're making them rebuild anyway, so they're more likely to save their $50 since they arne't using those features.
Full disclosure, I expect that between the time the full version is released, and this one expires, I will have a need to reinstall.
I'm the BOFH here, and when someone needs a new, snazzy fast computer, I order me a new one and they get mine. Trickle down economics really does work! I think dell just came out with some new models:)
Say, oh, 15 million people install RC (I did.) Come June, you want to start getting paid (you're M$), you have two options...
1. Release an 'upgrade to paid version' where you charge people FULL PRICE for the equivilent of whatever they're running. (I'm using ultimate)
2. Force people to pay for the version they choose AND reinstall everything.
Now, to get the most money out of me, and I'd bet most everbody, they should do #1. A year from now, I'm going to have installed a lot of stuff, done a LOT of customizing and unless it's just time to rebuild, I'm REALLY not going to want to reinstall. I would be HAPPY to pay for Ultimate at that point. The alternative is go back to Vista which I've already paid for or reboot every 2 hours. Neither are good for me, so I'll start looking for a crack. Time is money, and I'd spend way more money rebuilding to get off the RC than I'd spend paying for an ultimate license.
But, I'd bet Microsoft is going #2. No betting actually, that's the plan. So they're going to have a bunch of people who are just going to deal with reboots. Then there will be a bunch of people who are going to go the cracking route. Then there's the people who are going to pay, but will downgrade because they don't use all that ultimate crap anyway. And what's left, are the people who fall in line and do what M$ wants them too. But think of all the money they could have gotten from the others, had they only offered an upgrade path...
And it's not like it's a complicated upgrade, just replace the part of the system that makes this an RC build! That's got to be easier than a service pack!
Haven't we all seen the one where there's a large inflatable thing in the middle of a lake with a kid on it. A heavy adult jumps onto it from something high, and LAUNCHES the young child in the air like a flailing sack of potatos...
The purpose of this is to keep you from trash talking your beloved government. Who really cares if you hurt some kids feelings online. You can just as easily do it in person, over the phone, or take out a damn newspaper ad.
No, this is to stop disparaging remarks about your beloved government. Now, what happens when you say something negative about your president? What if they have 'emotional distress' because you criticize the spending of 11T?
This marks the end of the end of your ability to disagree publicly with anything the government says are does. Tea Parties, this makes them illegal. You could stretch something like this so far any time you speak out it's illegal.
Lets take the stupid barn analogy... If there was ONE horse in the barn, there's no point in shutting the door. BUT THERE ARE MILLIONS of horses. So we're just letting in MORE infected people to infect MORE uninfected, and do so faster.
As for my comment about hospitals, you haven't disagreed, you just let me know I've hurt your FEEELINGS. Big damn deal. I have young kids that are currently NOT sick.
1. I Want to keep it that way. Close the damn borders. 2. If they do get sick, I want them to be able to get into a hospital, not die in the waiting room because of swarms of illegals that MY TAXES are paying to give treatment.
Lets make it obvious where this came from, to give people a good idea not to go there!
It was good enough for the spanish flu, why must we be so damn politically correct.
Oh, and why the hell haven't we closed our borders? Horse out of the barn? That's insane! Even if that was a valid reason, we should still keep the borders closed to keep them from overloading our hospitals!
That's got to be some serious thrust and precision. Actually, if this works, without intertial dampeners, the people inside are going to be goo on the floor;)
I'm with you. I'm sick and tird of the US being a bunch of spineless pussies because we don't want the rest of the world to think bad things about us. Pirates should die. End of story. If a boat is approaching my cargo ship, and they don't identify, expect to be shot in the ocean, no chance to explain yourself. If we don't make pirating risky for them, then everyone's going to become a pirate. We've made it look so safe to be a pirate, save the 3 on the Mersk ship. Oh, and I so feel for the one they caught. I feel he should be taken out to somolian seas, and thrown in the ocean handcuffed, with a lifevest on and 20lbs of chum stuffed in his pants. Video that. Put it on youtube. email the link to pirates@somolia.sm.
If the boats start shooting on site, and the WORLD GOVERMENTS start acting like these are pirates, not poor innocent people trying to make a living, then this 'problem' will be short lived.
I have some tables in my database where I need a fully function DBMS with transactions and such, where I use InnoDB in Mysql. And I have other tables where I need lightening fast data indexing/accessing, in which case I use MyISAM. Sometimes I have need both and I get to make the decision which to use. My app has financial info, user info, logging, products, all sorts of different needs. I think you'll find that most apps have situations where data integrity is the most important, while other times speed is important.
And every now and then I'll implement a heap, archive or merge table... It all depends on my needs.
So for this reason, I choose MySQL. On the same server, i get to have my cake and eat it too.
You started off right, but ended wrong. Capitalism is selling homes to everyone regardless of their ability, and so on... yes... But the end result, without goverment involvement, is those companies that perform this way fail because they themselves end up with a bad loans. Regardless, there was a TON of bad underwriting of these loans and the companies, at whichever level, were stupid enough to underwrite those loans should have failed, then they're no longer part of the market. The market will clean up the mess. Yes, some people got screwed, and some got rich. But what DID happen is the gubment stepped in and tried to clean it up, so now MANY got screwed and MANY got rich. And many of those that got rich just happen to have friends in goverment. Do you know how much money Chris Dodd and Barney PFHRANK have made off Fanie/Fredie? Do you know how much Fannie and Freddie donated to the obama campaign? Lets just say, a lot. Does the govement ever clean things up? No, they just get involved and make it bigger. So instead of the right, or any for that matter, company failing, the goverment pumped OUR taxpayer money into the situation and prolonged it and made it worse. Companies should have failed, being an example to other companies of what NOT to do. The market would have absorbed the mess and we'd be on our way. But the moment the government got involved IT WAS NO LONGER CAPITALISM.
I would be happy with a better ibattery.

Wow, that's a great IDEA. Then all we need is some sort of Basic Input/Output system to load up the bios for us!
Why didn't someone think of that before???

How many TeraFLOPS is that?

Bigot, no. Realist, yes.
From what I've read, there's much less evidence pointing to the US than mexico. But if that turns out the be case, then yes, the American Flu.
Maybe it just exploded in mexcico because the living conditions there are so poor.
