"independent open-source data" sounds more like them trying to open up the source code behind H-1B than what they probably mean, which is "citizen gathered information".
I know that the OSS model kinda includes it, but open-source is becoming a buzzword again and is apparently being used incorrectly to describe community efforts.

The convenience of online docs (at least in a school setting where Gmail is blocked, fucking Websense) far outweighs the functionality of desktop docs, especially because I and most people I know won't be using half of that functionality.

Or just install OpenGoo on a Linux server and have everyone work from there. This way you own the documents you upload.

I believe Adobe opened up the Flash spec recently, so wouldn't that mean that the Open Source clone one would be greatly improved rather quickly.
