  1. Re:OMGITSSOOOOOSHINY on Study Finds iPhone Twice As Reliable As BlackBerry · · Score: 1

Dropping it is one thing, but those blackberries are pretty much indestructible. I've dropped by blackberry out of my pocket and onto the pavement going 90km/h in a Go-Cart and it was still on and receiving emails during the time between when I dropped it and when I found it (and after still, obviously). I've also accidentally almost dropped it, tried to catch/swipe at it, and thrown it into a brick wall and had it still work the same. Most of the ACTUAL problems come from people installing random software which breaks the device or changing permissions on some key component.

If I hear the words "Brought to you by your new Government" one more time (like we did after the last election), I'm going to shoot someone...preferably Stephen Harper. What I don't understand is how a political can tell blatant lies throughout his entire campaign and still get elected. That and how DCMA wasn't even an issue in the election, or even mentioned from what I heard.

Ok, so I have 2 computers, one running Linux and the other XP. How is it that one of them is the old format and one is the new format, when they are both logged into the same account? Is it only targeted towards linux? I spoofed the headers on linux to appear like Vista, but it's still the new layout.

Agreed. And I hate the new interface. What REALLY pisses me off, however, is the gmail app that now forces you to display at least your latest email on the homepage. There is no hide/show link anymore.

What about videos describing how to cut food properly? Are they going to ban all the videos that teach you how to cook too? Maybe TV shows or movies/trailers with violence in them? Yep, it's those darn youtube videos that are really causing all the violence.

Could someone please tell me what the hell that had ANYTHING to do with Microsoft, Windows, or computers in general? Ooh, I know, let's videotape as many random, diverse people as possible and have them say "I'm a PC". That'll show users that we really understand why our products suck.

I was referring to the part where they say: "ll ISPs may be instructed to ensure that their subscribers using wireless devices must use effective authentication mechanisms" I figured that they were worried about tracking what people do on the internet, but this could be bypassed somewhat by tunneling through other computers or using proxies.

Well, first of all, I'm referring to the Canadian laws, not American laws.

Secondly, correct me if I'm wrong, but yelling FIRE in a crowded room would indeed start a panic and incite a riot or at least a mass exodus of people trying to get out. Many have been injured or killed in such circumstances.

Thirdly, oh yes, wikipedia is by far the best resource to find interpretations of laws. Definitely better than any criminal code or anything like that. [/sarcasm]

Fourthly, I was indeed referring to FALSELY shouting FIRE in a crowded room, since mistakenly doing so is still acting in a responsible manner (unless you count negligence).

Fifthly, the law would be the ones in charge of the definition of responsible. The word "reasonable" comes to mind here, as in "did they reasonably believe that their actions wouldn't cause any harm?" The law is the decider here, as it is in most (er.... make that all) cases.

When I travel to the US now, I never bring my laptop regardless of how much I need it in fear of being charged with DCMA-related offenses. Maybe I should just add a dead man switch on it or something to format?

The whole point of free speech is that you have the right to express your opinions without fear of persecution, whether or not you are in agreement with the majority, but that you ALSO have the responsibility to use that right responsibly. For example, you can't shout out "FIRE" and cause a panic, because even though you had the "right" to say it, it was irresponsible and could cause harm to others.
