Actually, in this situation, it's not Uncle Bob. It's more like Sam...and he's your brother....big brother.
What a great idea, let's push all of my logs keeping track of EVERYTHING I do on the web onto a third party. Isn't that exactly what we are fighting against in the first place? Aah, let's just have it all in one convenient, insecure location so that Mr. Senator can come in and have a look see, shall we?
The best way of getting around this is to either buy a USB->AC adapter, which can be expensive (particularly from apple), or just get a damn powered usb hub and plug the thing into there. Problem solved.
Honestly, I hate all this BS about needing a computer to charge my mp3 player or phone. What happens if you're on vacation, for example? And proprietary adapters just piss me off. At least RIM/Blackberry use standard microUSB ports.
Can someone please explain to me how they plan to view the files of encrypted traffic without it being illegal?
One would think that if they happen to decrypt anything with copyright protection that it would then violate the DCMA, as per various ridiculous recent rulings of the sort.
...or, you know, just be plain illegal due to attempting to access people's personal files.
What a witty response. Did two of your neurons actually fire at the same time for you to come up with that one?
Yes, I am aware that any computer can run malicious software if a virus scanner doesn't have it in it's database or isn't smart enough to pick it up. And yes, I'm sure that macs also have plenty of holes that can be exploited if one cared enough to find them. To argue otherwise is just nonsense.
I know the difference thanks, but "virus" is for some reason easier to type than "trojan";) They're all part of the same family of malware anyways. I'm sure that when Apple ran those commercials they were using "virus", "trojan", "spyware" and "malware" interchangeably.
Does anyone else find it funny that after Apple ran all of those "Mac vs Windows" commercials about how Macs are virus free, this happens?
It was obvious to anyone with half a brain that the only reason macs don't have viruses is because no one bothers to write one for them.
Aaah, Karma, gotta love it:)
Exactly. How, exactly are windows users supposed to download a new browser if the OS doesn't get shipped with one? Ubuntu comes with Konquerer, OSX comes with Safari. Who gives a crap if windows comes with IE?
Of course, the paranoid person would balk at having GPS tracking of their computer even without a cellphone.
I see way too many downsides to having remote lockdown. It can be abused too easily, and once the codes get leaked, there is no added security anyways.
Ah yes, the legendary "close sandwich" and "package" steps, truly an invention of McDonalds. What are the rest of us supposed to put our sandwiches on? Wooden Planks?
Better yet, why not just patent the idea of the sandwich altogether?
Very true:) That's why I use NOD32 on my windows boot. Of course, I refuse to install Symantec on principle, since using rootkits in a virus scanner is a bit....hypocritical.
Of course, they may only believe that they are safe because they don't have an antivirus popping up to warn them that they have a virus. Good viruses do not make themselves known in ways that script kiddie viruses do.
What are people smoking to believe that it takes 15-30 minutes to boot up a computer? Should they get paid from the time they were there? Yes, so just come in at the proper time, and include "bootup" as a part of that. But honestly, 30 minutes to boot a computer? More like 30 seconds to boot + another 29:30 taking a coffee break and chatting with coworkers.
The glint off the camera lens? As opposed to the glint off of a glasses lens? Lets ban those too, maybe they have a camera behind them as well...oh wait, it's the thing that the camera lens was based off of instead,
Cell phones really shouldn't be counted as "video recording equipment". I don't understand the point of that punishment. Presumably it is to deter him from recording other things illegally, but honestly, let the man record his 320x240 60-second per clip cellphone video.
What would he do, piece together the video for each minute, maybe using multiple cellphones so he wouldn't miss anything during the save delay? Maybe they should prevent him from carrying multiple cellphones instead.
Well, looks like it's been ./ed. Way to go folks!
Question: When the hell are they going to do something about pulse audio and flash? Both of these issues REALLY destroy the overall impact of Ubuntu.
Pulse audio is the devil, and flash is it's brother.
Yeah...because it's so much safer to download from those old school warez sites instead, or IRC. /s
If I wanted to know if it were true or not, the North Korea blog would be the last place I'd look ;)
;)
But no...not *woosh*
Blah blah blah blah blah. Honestly...

Of course, the easiest solution to this is to not buy Kaspersky and just crack it ;) Or use linux...
Even when said gift horse is actually a trojan horse? :)

Not to mention that IE is integrated into the explorer shell, and separating them would be rather painful for Microsoft.

Idiocracy

Renaming a file (extension) under program files, for example, prompts you 3x if your sure. I think we could do without the multitude of prompts.
Are you sure?
Are you really sure?
Positive?
Ok

So they would approach everyone with glasses who sits somewhat still?
