I think it would be cool to have an omni-max type view that people could take tours with.
To be able to get some serious zoom from anywhere at any time. To be able to get a real lesson in astronomy. I am fascinate by the stars. I have spent many hours watching, thinking, pondering life under a sky filled with bright stars. The problem is that I have never taken a class on astronomy or have any friends that are into it. I would love to have a resource that I could go and spend a few dollars and a couple of hours and get a crash-course in astronomy and use the "teachers" use the data collected from this research to be able to make the learning interesting and keep my attention. Not that I am looking specifically for entertainment, but I find that when I exercise my brain, I get much more than if I rent the latest movie and veg. out.
Yes, I am one of those countless people who find Nova, PBS, and TLC interesting. I even record such programs. They wet my tastebuds for more knowledge and wisdom.
(Don't get me wrong...sometimes I do get overloaded and must veg. out in front of some Hollywood production.):)
I find it quite interesting that if science can actually discover what everything is, then later can learn to control it, what happens when everybody is alike?
What I mean is this: If the culture defines the "perfect" person to be slim, tall, blonde hair, smart, etc. and gene therapy exists, the short fat people will want to be slim tall people. This is the nature of humans. To be the "best" (whatever that is). In other cultures/time periods a person who was fat was considered to be beautiful and healthy. I am not suggesting that fat people are more beautiful or healthy, only that this is the perception of society and the culture that the individuals live in.
So, once again, what happens when everyone goes down to the local tanning/gene therapy club, to get themselves "enhanced"? These people will start to become the physiologically similar. What happens when a new disease comes along that is only able to attack that particular combination? Does this wipe out most of the crowd? Does this not sound very similar to the latest VBS or MS Whatever attacks? When everything is the same, no matter how strong or wonderful it appears on the surface, there is a chance that a weakness can be found, then exploited. I run Pine under Linux. I received a copy of the "I love you" virus. What happened? Nothing. I am running Pine. My mail reader doesn't automatically run VBS.
Is there anything that you would change about yourself? What if that meant that you could end up with some disease?

Instead of making shoes that generate electricity, why not somehow integrate this technology into a car tire. I am just courious as to how much electricity 4 tires running at 65mph down the interstate would generate if 3-4 watts could be generated by walking. What about an 18 wheeler?
Read a popular mechanics from 1955. There are instructions about how to do everything from modify a Ford Model A into a roadster to building your own radio transceiver. What happened to cause the average american to loose interest in doing pratical things? I enjoy hacking up great solutions. It isn't even the desire to produce something for the end result. It is the experiance of hacking in and of itself that makes me want to continue! What else is there to say? ---
What made the I-opener cool was it came with a flat screen. When was the last time you priced a 180 cyrix system without a hard disk? Yeah...about $50. deep thoughts. ---
I am not trying to flame everyone else that doesn't speak english, but lets face it. For websites, I can acomplish about 99.5% of my needs by viewing only english sites or sites that I can translate with babelfish. It is that simple. ---
Now, that was a game that someone should build a 3d, multiplayer version of!!! If you never played it, you REALLY missed out. Even though it was an EGA game with PC speaker sound. IT rocked!! AND, strangly enough, I still play it at times. It was very cool.
This game was produced by Future Magic and released through Electronic Arts a very long time ago (back in 1988). ---
1. I buy the latest greatest backup system, 2. go through the backup precedures, 3. have an hard disk failure, and 4. find a little card that says, "please refer to the documentation included in the help menu."
Can we say, "blarrrrr" ?
There are some areas such as system recovery and hardware devices that I still need in hard-copy form. Granted, however, that I usually have more than one computer at hand.
I dare say that if the I-Opener were sold as a thin-client solution, our university would buy a pile of these. The university is currently using the latest greatest Wyse terms which connect to a W2k server. It is my understanding that they are paying approx. $1000 each for the terms they have now. (They are used as "nano-stations"...basically just terms where anyone can sit down and quickly check their email or quickly look up a web page between classes.) ---
At our university two years ago when the dorms were in the process of being wired, a student could go to the Information Services department and request the supplies, and the IS department would allow the student free access to the network for that year if the student ran his own wire. This is the way it should have been handled IMHO. ---
I understand that the university I attend has bids out for a pile of notebooks. One for each student. There are about 2500-3000 currently enrolled. I have heard of other schools doing this too. What do you think are some of the Pros/cons of this?
Do you think they will name each new "mini" comet?

I hate to see people with so much potential kill themselves. Why do we do this?
I am 23 an have been using pkware since I was about 11 or 12. This is what helped me get into computers.
It is too bad that we couldn't tell him what we felt for him before he died. Tell people around you what they mean to you.

I agree completely. A hack is one of those things that you look at and say, "wow! why didn't I think of that!?!". This is indeed a hack.
;)
PS. Most of the comments saying it is crap isn't coming from from rocket scientists!
