    Shouldn't he be suing them for having his crop contaminated by there geneticly modified crop? If he was growing certified organic stuff, that would cost him heaps to clear it all way.

    That's what should be happening anyway. If I was him, I'd counter sue.

    If he's lieing about the seeds being blowen over. It dosn't matter 'Cause it's bound to happen sometine in the future anyway.

    yeah, just like the tiring proccess o moving your habd each time.

    I'm not sure why everyone one sem to waqnt eye traking. I think it would be very strange, and annoying in some cases to have to look exactly where u want ur mouse to go. Quite oftern, I fix my eyes on something, and move my mouse without looking at the curor, maily in grphic applications, when I'm looking at the object moving, and not the mouse cursor at all.

    Also, I think alot of people think that using this new pointing device would involve you doing movments that resembled head banging to music or something.
    I'm not sure where that comes from, casue with a mouse, you only make suttle movments, depending on ur mouse setting.

    I think the movments would be very suttle. So I don't hink the effetc on the neck would be that bad. maybe even less than on the wrist from using a mouse.

    The big bonus is, you'ld have both hands on the keyboard.

    Apparently so. But I think that's just typical slashdot. I think that fact that it had linux on it, overlooked the fact that it has 640x480 on a screen less than an inch in size, making it 735.6 dpi.
    My cals could be wrong (dpi of a screen is mesured by how may pixels across per inch right?).
    But what ever the value, that's very small, you could probably fit the equivilant of a 1290x1024 monochome monitor into the size of a palm screen.

    Imagine the clarity... It would be just like drawing on and reading paper. Except for the fact it would be glowing ;)

    Be interesting to see how this compares to that electric paper.

    Sorry to brake your myth. But not may Mac users would fix the bugs themselves even was open and free.

    I've succsefuly installed 2 distros of linux, so has a friend of mine, we also are slave to winXX most of the time, and know it well. But neither of us could fix a bug yet. So I'm not sure how you expect the average mac user to. No offence meant by that either. Not everyone is a programmer.

    Microsoft bundles a web browser, *THAT* is a reason to cry about.

    Actually, thats a reason to celebrate. Not becasue M$ is nice friendly company or anything. But becasue they do at least make a decent broswer.
    If they shipped netscape with it, any version, it would be a dissaster. You would either have an old, non-standards complient browser, that worked, or a standards complient brower that didn't work, or it would, but just not very well, and slowly...

    I don't underatand the whole browser thing in the MS case, It's just logical for a company to intergrate stuff into there software. And it's also logical to ship your own bundeled software if you have the option. Nothing even there.
    There are plenty of evil things about M$, but that isn't one of them.

    Still, it's either ship with less features, or push the release date back , which they'll will probably get shit for.

    Yeah...critisize Apple for the docker.. that's something news worthy. "How Apple, the company that prides it self in easy to use, logical, meaningfull GUI throws it all away for flashy graphics".

    I can't wait to replace my Win98 box with a G4 running OS X, but the first thing I'll be doing is downloading patches to fix up Mac OS's boched interface.

    I'm not one of those people who don't wan't to change from OS 9. OS X is major step from OS 9, but it pisses me off when they do such stupid things that are so obvious even to people who arn't interface experts.
    Spose I should speak too loud at the moment, they still have time to change it, or give people otions to change it themselves.

    Yes they could, very easly. But do you really want good ol' Joe, who owns a old, red, ford pick-up, with a shotgun rack, and 3 kegs of beer in the back, to be flying a plane that can travel faster than the speed of sound?

    Opps... didn't see the bit about the cosin with a low IQ, now I sound like a dork.

    The thing is, with an computer, you arn't going to kill anyone if you stuff up.
    Anyway, they've made cars easy to use for the common man, even though that may have been a stupid idea, I don't see why OS and computers can't be aswell. They're less of a threat. Unless your worried that a 19" monitor is going to be throwen at you.

    Hardly, Most times, I've found, that they use windows because PCs get more bang for the buck, wider choice of hardware, and more upgradable. Or other people that use windows 'cause they have to "the software I use isn't on the mac" etc. Both of these tenf to overlap.

    In reality, there arn't that many windows zealots/advocates. It's just the OS everyone loves to hate.

    I would much rather prefere Mac OS to WinXX, but I'm still deciding what I want to get becasue I know I can get much better hardware if I get a PC, that if i get a Mac. The only real advantage of a Mac is the prossecor, but I could only afford a 550Mhz Mac. For the same price I could get a 1000Mhz. Maybe if mac where up to 850Mhz, then mac would have a processor advantage. But I wouln't be able to afford it anyway.

    I've added the prices up, And I can tell you that I can get a better deal with PC than with a Mac. And that's not using cheap hardware either.

    Someone hasn't done there homework.
    OS X is mulitasking, unlike OS 9 or lesser.
    Finalty, no more manually allocating memory to each program all the time. There's nothing user friendly about that, thats for sure.

    The thing is, do web-sites like salon have as much content as a mag, or newspaper? Sure there are advantages of the net, but most people, seem to prefer mags and newspapers. They usaly have more content. And the content has more of a chance of being original, unlike the web, since it's so easy to copy artical.

    BTW, that extra content salon will be giving to subscribers had better be good...

    Just a quick point.

    The new standards, event though they do offer designers better tools, so they can postion things exatly where they want, and can include lots of style on there site.
    They also make it more accesible to visualy impared, or browsers like lynx, PDA and moble phone browsers, becasue the style part is ignored, just leaving the content. And not a whole lot of tables, images with the content, which is what happens at the moment.

    Good designers shouldn't need to build a site for differnt screen res's--most of the time--anyway. It isn't that hard to get a site to work in both, and it would be easier if the browsers supported the standards better.

    Some web designers do this already.. It's called javascript.

    And when used in this way it is very bad.

    I can count howmany times, I've gone to a site, to be told that I don't have the flash plug-in, when I do, and sometimes they're silly enough not to include a link to the flash as a backup.

    Things that automaticly decide what the user will see, is very bad UI.
    As some mentioned above, so what if I have a 56k, I wana see the high bandwidth version anyway. Maybe I want to see the site at 800x600, eventhough my screen res has been set to 1024x768 or greater.
    It's nearly as bad when a site automaticly pop's up a window, without having to click on the link. and people with no mute option in their flash sites.

    Yes, I do realise that. I wan't jumping on everyone, I wan't making a generalization. Thats why I said "some people" and not "everyone" or "the USA".

    Sorry if it did sound like generalization. But there where so many posts of that nature, and none of them mentioned any other country. So It didn't seem to me that those people where aware of world outside there borders.

    The only reason I mentioned US, was becasue that's where the majority of slashdot readers are. My comment was really for anyone who dosn't think outside their country border.

    Sorry for sounding negitave about palm. But eversince I sold my hp jornada 680, for a Palm, I've been dissapointed with Palm. I still prefer my Vx over the 680, It suits me better for what I do. But I do feel ripped off by Palm.

    First it was just little things, like the cheap plastic stylus in the other stylus holder. The other things, like the price of replacement cables etc...

    Now finaly, they release 2 more models. As far as i can see, the only benifits are more colour, An unpopular, propietory expantion card. And a new OS, which isn't that much of an improvment on the old one.
    I did get excited about the new OS, but then again. that isn't avalible for my Vx Even though I bought it becasue They said they will make upgrades for it, and it does have flashable ROM. What a waste. They could atleast just give us something, like the new notpad app, but no...

    And they still stick with 160x160, which is just silly. It's begining to be a joke. All wince PDA's have more that this. And increaing the resultion is going to have that much of a power drain, esspecialy on a B&W model.
    And, still, they havn't made the graffiti area part of the screen.
    Sure, there are comatability issues with the above. But it isn't that hard to make something backward compatible.

    If Palm really want to impress me, they'll make something the same thinkness of the Vx, add a smart media, or compactflash (if there's room) slot. and change the res to 320x440, so the screen part is 320x320, and the extra bit is for graffiti area.
    And they'll add an option to have differnt alarm setting for each appointment. (Thats the only thing that I miss about wince, I want my wake up call to be much different to a reminder to feed the cat etc...)
    And yes, it is still possable to add features to the Palm OS and still keep it simple and easy to use.

    Not every country uses fucken coal powerplants. Sorry for sounding harsh, but it's about time some people woke up and realised that they arn't the only country in the world. There are plenty of other countries that can produce power cleanly.
    I'm not saying that the US is bad becasue it uses coal, and nuclare, because I realise there isn't really any alternatives at the moment. What I'm saying is that just because some idea may not work over there. It dosn't mean it is a useless idea. Because there are plenty of other countries that can benifit

    Hardly.. I think thats why they made it exacty twice as big, so when it comes to older aps, the screen res. will be reduced to 1/2, it would just use 4 pixels instead of one.

    I think thats the only reson they made it that size, otherwise, they probably would have made it 320x420 or something more like the WinCE devices, and replace the graffiti area.

    I think that you'll find that even though, the chassis may weigh less, when you put the batteries in, it will probably weigh quite a bit more, which probably explains the weak braking you mentioned.

    Also don't forget that it only has one gear ratio, the ferrari probably has 6 to choose from. The ferrari realy, has an advantage in that area, even if it does have to shit.

    If you wanted to make things fair, I guess you could dump some lead in the ferrari, and start it in 3rd.

    Still, I guess that dosn't change the fact that it can only get 100 miles (which is that bad really) per charge.

    I replyed to another one of these posts above. And I'll say it again:

    But here in little ol' New Zealand, all our energy clean and green.
    So electric cars would make reduce pollution alot.

    I'm sure there are other counries that use environmentaly sound enegy supplies.

    And still, I'm sure that someday there will be a break though or something which will mean the end of coal plants etc.. in big places like the USA. And even if they dosn't happen, there is still the question of if petrol cars are still more pollutiong that having coal powerplants and EV cars.

    I'm sorry, but the only real short sighted person is you and everyone else who posted a comment like this one. The US is not the only contry on the earth. And technology does imporve.

    This isn't that much of a supirse when you consider that one little electric train motor, about 60cm x 70cm (smaller than a normal car engine) can put out 1200kW (1600hp) of power.

    Of course the real issue is power supply.
    A battery can only hold 1% per weight of petrol.
    So while trains don't have that problem. Cars do. I can't get to the site at the moment, but I suspect that eventhough they may bet petrol cars, the batteries probably don't last as long a tank of gas

    But it is imporving, And one day, EV will be better performers than gas, there is only so much you can do with a gas engine. No matter how many new systems you can make, it dosn't change the fact that 80% of the energy is lost in heat and noise, and while that figue may decrese quite a bit. electric motors only waste about 20%, and thats probably improving aswell.

    MS will be able to have "Use SOAP"
    Which is clearly a better play on a common phrase.

    Then they could have "You are not the car you drive....You are the OS you use instead" to go along with it.

    I'm not sure what is going to make this .NET thing so big. It won't be able to run alot of apps that some ppl need to use. Only basic type of apps, and then they'll all be MS. For someone who uses the same computer all the time, Is this going to have any advantage? Other than having to wait a long time to do something because the server is busy? Or is this intended for something completely differnt, like internet devices?

    I'm I even slightly on the right track in terms of what the MS .NET thing is?

    With the 4x700MHz PIIIs, that's significantly more processing power than your average dinosaur brain, and they walked a lot better than this beast.

    Hardly! I'm not even a biologist. But I know that probably isn't true, considering how much we don't know about our own brains for starters.

    Just becasue a dinosaur can't do maths aswell as, or as fast as, a computer, it dosn't mean it isn't as powerfull. Don't foget that a dino, or human brain has to control far more muscles than that robot. than there's the fact that it dosn't have to worry about a complex digestive system. Blood and oxgen curcualtion, high res vision, millions of touch, temperature sensors all over the body. And of course the biggy... that they can't learn in the same way as we, or dino's do/did.

    Don't forget, brains work in an entirely differnt way to a computer chip. A computer chip can only do simple things fast (0's and 1's). And that's about it.
