That was my point when you're not paying for it in the sense that you give them the cash then and there, they have no incentive to get you sorted and it's can be reflected in the service you receive.

Sure, for a lot of people, that is still much better than having to pay up but I do think people will be in for a bit of a shock when they realise what free healthcare is actually like.

Public healthcare, while seemingly free (most people do pay for it in the end) but I'm not sure such a lawsuit friendly country can handle being told you have to wait months for treatment or that you can't have a certain treatment because it's not cost effective.

People just assume that free healthcare means everything stays the same except it's free. That's not true.

Granted, the healthcare I receive in the UK isn't bad. My local doctor definitely has room for improvement but my previous doctor was perfect. I just hope I don't have to deal with cancer in the UK. Despite probably being in one of the better areas as far as the whole post code lottery ordeal goes, it's always a concern I'll be told "tough luck, we're low on cash".

When I was in the US, despite not being jobless, the hospital and state government (PA) was actually quite helpful and I only had to pay a tiny fraction of what it would have cost. Even for someone in a transitional job, which was low paying, it was quite easy to pay off. Certainly better than the $20,000+ I would have had to pay if I didn't seek help from the state and hospital.

My case might be slightly biased since I was in a decent area of the state and the hospital doesn't deal with a load of poor people begging for free care but even with free healthcare, being in a poorer area of the UK can mean not getting a treatment someone else would get in a better off area.

I just hope people realise that neither system is perfect and going to free healthcare will not solve everyone's problems.

The thing is though when what other utilities advertise, you do get that as do all your neighbours. With internet access they can claim you'll get 10 meg speeds but the actual speed could be anything and one person may get 10 meg speeds but his friend down the road may not.

Until broadband is much more reliable and consistent, I don't think they can justify metered usage.

Other utilities give you discounts for poor service or no service. With broadband you'd have an absolute nightmare sorting that out and, yes if I was metered, my expectations would be much higher than they are now. I don't mind paying for what I use but it better work not cause me hassle.

I don't have to struggle to get the water out of the tap or electricity out of the socket and I expect no less from metered broadband.

The barrier is much lower for iPhone development which is why there are more rubbish games on the iPhone. Everything about the DS is more expensive to develop on but, as he pointed out that keeps the quality high. There is nothing like Chrono Trigger, Ninja Gaiden, Grand Theft Auto, New Super Mario Bros, etc on mobile phones. The DS just blows them away but you gotta pay more for games.

But at least you get to keep your games unlike mobile games which are only good on that phone and, if you're unfortunate, your provider won't even let you free up space to even delete the damn things.

I think this pretty much sums up mobile games and pretty much any other very cheap quick gaming markets.

Some people do make money and some games are good but the vast majority of these markets are full of shit games and aren't making money.

Mobile phones especially suffer from this, imo, because the hardware just isn't made for gaming. Even the iphone is shit. It has no buttons and I don't care how many imaginary buttons you can put on the screen, it's just not the same.

Another problem is that the games are shallow and cheap. People don't value them. They won't pay decent money for them and they don't really care about them. There won't ever be much money to be made out of people like that.

Natal probably does it better (I would hope since it's newer) but I don't expect it to be perfect and it's certainly not a new idea.

Personally I think motion through controllers, like the Wii, is easier to get into because you have something to manipulate. I think the problem with Eye Toy and Natal is the lack of a controller. MS's comment about being able to use the 360 controller in conjunction with Natal seems rather pointless. It's a quick fix with them almost certainly knowing that no controller would really limit what sort of game people can realistically play even if they have full use of their body.

Considering how expensive it is to get the full and proper xbox experience and the fact casual gamers don't get a hard-on over graphics, what does the 360 offer them? Keep in mind you have to pay extra for wireless on the 360 where as it's free on the Wii. To most people that will seem like a scam.
