Good luck finding any mobile phone where you can update it for more than one or two versions. Some hardware providers / service providers won't let you upgrade at all unless you jail break the thing. Again even if you do jail break it you'll be lucky to get more than a couple versions out of it.

Phones are not PCs. They're limited hardware that are meant to give you the most power for the longest time during that given period. HTC, Apple, etc don't really want you using your phone longer than your contract anyway. New systems will take advantage of new hardware rendering your old hardware obsolete just as they want it.

I totally agree. Obama has proven to be pretty useless. I'm glad I didn't vote for him (didn't vote for McCain either) but I think it's not being very honest to make out as if he put us in 3 wars. He arguably put us in one (Libya - if that can be considered a war) and yes I think he should have ended Iraq by now. On the other hand though we fucked up big time by even going in there and to pull out too early because we feel it's too expensive is a shitty thing to do. Part of me hopes the US really suffers over Iraq so hopefully we learn our lesson and stay the hell out of other people's business and especially don't start wars that are of questionable legality.

Emulators are not inherently tied to piracy but trawling through virtually any emulator message board will show you the vast majority are little kids looking for a way to have games they can't afford or don't want to pay for because they rather spend their limited funds on something else but still feel entitled to play any game they can get their hands on.

That is why I think people should show some consideration when developing emulators. A wii emulator that only plays homebrew games would be more than awesome. A Wii emulator isn't like a DVD burner. A DVD burner has hundreds if not thousands of uses other than copyright infringement emulating a game system does not. If a developer genuinely doesn't want to encourage people to infringe on a company's copyright then why not wait to release your work or handicap the initial releases until the system's life has passed. I believe that would actually help the homebrew scene too because it would give them years of being the only source for gaming on the emulator without having to worry about competing with Super Mario Galaxy for example.

  8. Re:Upgrade on Nintendo Announces Wii Successor for 2012 · · Score: 1

I have no issues with emulators existing for exactly the reason mentioned where you have old games but can't play them. Hell if you didn't have the game, even if it's wrong, I don't see it being a problem playing old games you didn't own because while it is an infringement you're not really encouraging people to deprive developers of money.

No company is going to go bankrupt because you're playing Pitfall on a Colecovision emulator. The homebrew scene is interesting too. But if you look at virtually any message board for emulation and it's filled with brain dead little spackers who clearly use it for one purpose to have all the games they can't afford or don't want to pay for which is why it's not that cool to be releasing emulators for current systems.

If someone released a Wii emulator that could only play homebrew games then I'd be all up for supporting that.

I know why lawyers want to do it and I was one of those people to get a $5 coupon from Nintendo due to their monopoly. How useless was that? Nintendo pays out cash which requires you to give them more money and lawyers get insanely rich.

If more money went to consumers or the pay out didn't come from some insurance against lawsuits I could see the point but it's just something to keep lawyers busy and paid. If Apple were tracking people I'd rather see a criminal case brought against them and that would surely make companies think twice about doing something more than yet another cash grab.

If you look at the US the bulk of the most liberal areas are also the liberal areas. Likewise even if you take a conservative state like Texas I suspect you've find people are on average more liberal than those in the rural areas even if they still aren't classed as liberals. That certainly doesn't mean conservatives don't exist there.

Ironically people in wealthier areas like New York support government programs to help people more than people in the south where people are more likely to be conservative and poor.

Just look at the list of the top 10 riches and poorest states based on median income and think of what sort of stereotypes people come up with about those states: http://money.cnn.com/2010/09/16/news/economy/Americas_wealthiest_states/index.htm

Even if you don't go by median wealth and just for the richest areas the most conservative states still lose out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highest-income_places_in_the_United_States

I do think as people get wealthier they do generally become more generous and more liberal. Bill Gates and Microsoft did a lot to avoid paying as much corporation tax as they could and I'm sure Bill Gates was happy to vote for people that would benefit his personal tax situation but he spends his time now with liberal causes and even doing shitty politically correct things like not giving scholarships to white kids.

That and I had to guess there are people that are more than happy to support liberal causes but that doesn't necessarily mean they want it coming out of their pockets.
