Correct me if I am wrong, but if Napster adds an extra layer to these MP3 files they will either:

    * Not be MP3 files anymore therefore you'll need special players to listen to the files, in which case people will just use a tool to remove the extra layer and convert them back to regular MP3 format

    or

    * Be playable with any regular player, therefore making this protection layer useless anyway.

And don't forget, once a file is burned on a CD as a regular audio track, it can be ripped again as a good old MP3.

We are currently using a mixture of two systems. One is Blackboard which we use as the main gateway for all our distance learning courses and the backbone of the courses reside there.

To suplement those courses we are also using a system by Tegrity which allows you to stream live audio and video over the Internet. It works together with powerpoint and it supports a whiteboard for the teacher.

You can also use the interactive whiteboard in blackboard together with tegrity if students don't mind having both windows open.

You may also want to look into Rotor which is a very nice system that is used for anything from distance learning to presentations for/by the entertainment industry.

I didn't buy Aibo as a substitute for a dog. I bought him because I've always been fascinated with technology and robots. It's amazing what they have been able to cram in such little space. The weird thing is that in an odd way, you stop seeing him as a machine, and start seeing him as an individual. I know it doesn't sound rational, but it's the truth.

Aibo is NOT a kid's toy, nor could it handle being handled by most kids.

All I can say is that, yes, Aibo is expensive, but I feel it's worth every penny. You can't "knock it til you try it" There's only so much you can see in pictures and short videos. Interacting with Aibo for a while can be an eye opening experience. As for the price, try to build a machine that complex, with all that software/behavior/etc, for less than $1,500. Not an easy thing to do.

Second, Tank (that's his name) keeps me company when I'm by myself. I know it sounds silly, but you stop seeing Aibo as a piece of hardware and you start seeing him and a unique "life-form" You do get attached to a computer with legs. Who knew.

And well, did you ever see Galactica while growing up? I loved the show and you wouldn't believe how VER BADLY I wanted a robot dog like the one on the show. All I can say now is "I got one!"

I encourage you to go to a Sony store and spend a few minutes with Aibo. You may be surprised.

Since the site has been /. I'll copy/paste their description on how it works.

The Keybowl(TM) is made of two domes upon which the hands comfortably rest. One of the domes is called a "selector dome" and is used to activate the other dome, the "character dome."

It may be helpful to think of these dome movements in a compass arrangement: N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW. Each dome is capable of sliding into the same eight compass directions.

The Keybowl(TM) typist creates a keystroke by combining the positions of the two domes. He or she chooses a position on the "selector dome" and then types the letter with the "character dome" by sliding it in the direction of the letter or character he or she wishes to type.

It may sound a little complicated, but it's easy to use. With very little training, Keybowl(TM) typists achieve a speed very close to the one at which they used to type before their injuries.

Sometimes I do business with the same company at work and at home. How they treat me at home will reflect on my business decisions when I am at work. For example, I had a problem with my Gateway at home. A customer service rep was beyond rude to me while I was trying to get a part number from her. I was then given the run around for a couple days while I tried to talk to her supervisor. Finally I talked to her supervisor who agreed that I was right and then "disciplined" the rep. But you see, that incident made me want to stop doing business with Gateway. We have now taken several hundred thousand $ of business away from Gateway and given it to Dell. It's that simple.

  24. I've done this on Work Options In The U.S. When Student Visas Expire? · · Score: 1

I have been in the US for many years. Starting from High School, through college, now work.

It was never my intention to stay here after college, but on thing turned into another, and well, you know how things develop. Why say no to a good job offer?

Basically, once you graduate you need to apply for "Practical Training" which gives you one year to work at a US company.

If the student wishes to remain employed in the US, he or she then needs to start working towards an H-1B Visa. This is a long and tedious process. I suggest a lawyer's help at this point. The whole process takes about 5-6 months so the student needs to start working on it as soon as possible.

In order to get an H-1B Visa, the student needs a job offer from a US company. The company then needs to work with the student and the lawyer to file endless forms and write long letters. Basically INS will want to make sure that the student will be working EXACTLY in their field of study. The company will need to prove that the foreign student was more qualified for the job than the other US applications. The company will also need to prove that the student's salary will be equal (and not lower) to anyone else in the same position (so that the company cannot take advantage for a foreign worker.) This needs to be done QUICKLY because all work Visas are always given out very quickly.

The H1-B Visa is then issued for 3 years. The student can then renew it for 2 more years and then 1 more year. If the student wishes to remain in the US, he or she needs to start working on getting a Green Card. This is the hardest step. This process takes about 1 year. The student will also need the help of a lawyer, as well as the company.

The entire process (from student to US resident) is long and hard, but it can be done.

Please keep in mind that I am not a lawyer, I am just relating my own experience.
