While you may not have any plans to buy an HDTV/blu ray setup, some of us may not have a choice. I am a college student now with a decent TV and DVD player. However, by the time I get around to buying a house and creating a real home theater setup, somehow I doubt that SDTV's and regular DVD players will even be around, much less still supported by studios making movies I want to buy. I'm guessing that within a couple of years DVD players will start to be outnumbered by all kinds of blu-ray players and then some movies will start to be released only on blu-ray and little by little we will all be forced to hop on board to blu-ray train.
You sir are a wise man. This may be the most level-headed post I've seen about American politics on the internet in a long time. Both political parties are broken, but neither has to be. If we could all stop focusing on identity politics and pet issues, either party has the potential to lead America to do great things.
For the record, I am a registered Republican who isn't particularly thrilled about either major presidential candidate or the state of my party on a national level.
In my opinion online multiplayer games represent the best chance for PC gaming to survive. Content delivery systems like Valve's STEAM allow developers to control access to games, which works effectively primarily for multiplayer games since you already have to be online anyway. Also, games like WoW have a future since you have to pay a subscription, and what you are paying for is not the graphics, or the ability to explore the online world, but the privilege of playing WITH other people on the company's game servers.
To insinuate that the Mormon church "bought out" the Boy Scouts is offensive and incorrect. I am a Mormon Eagle Scout who participated in an almost all-Mormon troop. However, I enjoyed attending activities and camps with troops of various and even no religious affiliation. Nationally, about 17% of Registered Scouts are Mormon, but I can speak from personal experience that of those "registered" in Mormon troops, only about half really participate and even get past Tenderfoot. While there is a decent Mormon presence in scouting, I'm sure that of other religions is greater. As a matter of fact, 40% of Boy Scout troops have no religious affiliation. While I personally would not discriminate against atheist or homosexual boys who want to participate in scouting, I could not support a leader who lived such a lifestyle, since it is not line with the values that scouting is supposed to instill in boys.
I definitely agree that it should feel like the old '80s MacGyver. If they tried to make it modern and hip it would just be trash, but it would still make money just the same. As for who should play Mac... The one modern-day equivalent we've got - Keefer Sutherland!
I don't think US airlines will ever have to give in to demand... What are their customers going to do? Go on a European airline for their flight from LA to Denver?
Just email me all your materials and I'll show them to my contacts at EA, Microsoft, and Blizzard... really.

Nope, it was slashdotted. I would have liked to see it too. Looks like I pressed F5 about 5 minutes too late...
