Well, "her" book was ghostwritten by Lynn Vincent, that's kinda like the book world's equivalent of lip-syncing. Suppose it's a good thing for her, so she doesn't lose too much street cred with that subset of her fans who think it's awfully elite to be readin' and writin'.
Indeed, all that the original Godwin's Law implies is that the probability of a Nazi reference approaches 1 as the discussion gets longer; the idea of the reference being gratuitous/inappropriate/etc. is just a corollary, and perhaps an unofficial one at that.
Now that you mention it, the argument makes plenty of sense. Even though I could definitely argue for the first one, not so sure about the second. It's an important facet of the issue; sometimes discussion of the issue gets boiled down to a yes/no, rather than a 0/1/2.
The disapproval of Stalin here I definitely understand, but does the disapproval of Truman have anything besides the atomic-bomb call? I'd rehash the arguments, but this thread's not the place.
Yes, the breaking of levys is something New York State is very concerned about. (Unlike nearby Massachusetts, we don't have a name syllable that rhymes with 'tax'.) The breaking of levees, though, that's more of a Louisiana/Mississippi issue.
Yes, Black Dogs (or is that black cats?) are generally warnings that something serious is afoot. You better Rock And Roll to get your gear packed up, and start practicing your Misty Mountain Hopping skills for when you need to start Going to California. Put your Four (joy-)Sticks away or else you'll end up on the Stairway to Heaven.
Let me clarify here: I do not like the concept of kiddie porn either. It's just that I'm not so sure if the legal crusade against it is an effective way of managing the problem. [I say similar things about other issues that reside in other contexts]
The First Amendment defenses are a tool here. A glorious tool being misapplied or used to do dirty work? I understand how something doesn't feel quite right there.
I have a big library of old games like that; I've been playing a lot of Civilization II lately without trouble. Maybe, in the interest of "research", I could get my StarCraft CDs out again...
I have a 17" LCD; maybe the problem this story discusses is more pronounced with 19"s or 24"s.
Of course, this guy was involved in relatively legit adult porn, but I feel the sentiment bears repeating:
Larry Flynt: [I]f the first amendment will protect a scumbag like me, then it will protect all of you . . . 'cause I'm the worst.
Erring *way too far* on the side of caution? Likely. However, I think of the statistician's battle between Type I and Type II errors in many many issues relating to legislation.
You know damn well if you tried this yourself, the RIAA would be all over your ass
Indeed, that does appear to happen. From TFA:
"This might sound familiar, because BlueBeat.com employed similar logic in creating new copyrights to Beatles songs — right before it was sued by EMI and a judge barred them from continuing to sell the songs."
Like any tool, it can be used well, it could be used badly. Not (yet?) into 80s rap, but I do have some music that makes good use of samples. K. Flay's "MASHed Potatoes" comes to mind, but it happens to use all (as far as I can tell) recent samples what wouldn't be affected by this
One extreme of "bad powerpoints" certainly has been discussed here - in short, "those giant walls of text."
However, a lot of advice I hear on 'good powerpoints' (including the advice from the communication class I'm in this quarter) is to make the slides concise. Really concise, to the point where I feel that the summary provided by such a slide deck is too short. It's really frustrating to try and write such a concise summary of your work. (I admit to going on too much about the details, but still...)
I noticed a huge speed improvement with AdBlock Plus alone, nevermind the other goodies. :)

Douglas Adams quote, for those of y'all who didn't get the reference.

I see what you did there...
Puts a whole new spin on "'tis better to give than to receive."

It's a good thing I'm taking these cumments cliterally and not divining any hidden meanings.
Isn't there crappy low-end playback equipment today as well?
Though, I have a feeling that playing the same record eighty times can't be good for it.
Sorry, lack of AdBlock Plus or something similarly seamless/easy/efficient is a limitation of Chrome/Chromium, plain and simple.
FWIW, AdblockPlus on Ubuntu Firefox installs exactly like it does on Windows Firefox: like any other addon.

Maybe he's (inadvertently) right?
WP: "DVD, also known as Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc, is an optical disc storage media format, and was founded in 1995."
2009-1995=14, which you would express in decade terms as "1.4 decades".
Too bad films are works-for-hire, else we'd be only eight years away from switched copyright on Dr. Strangelove.

To buy in bulk and pass along (some of) your bulk discount.
But not the ridiculous money cow they have now.
We're going to start a company...with blackjack and hookers - heck, forget the blackjack!
I don't know much about drugs or agriculture, but I always laugh when posts like this are given serious positive mods.
