People should be more worried that former Sen. Chris Dodd is in charge over at the MPAA. It's funny how an ex-politician who swore he'd never lobby is now in charge of one of the most powerful lobbying groups. This position has led to him pushing SOPA/PIPA which failed awhile back but he's still there pushing for more and more things to fuck with your lives online.
And folks are worried about Condolezza Rice @ Dropbox ?
I only signed up to see the tweet from Kim saying she had to buy two airplane seats because she couldn't get her fat ass into the seat or when her sister had to pay extra baggage fees for that melon on top of her head since it was considered a carry-on item.
Oh I don't have a problem with Nuclear energy but most nations don't have the political will to push forward with it. With the cost of each plant possibly in the Billions you also have to wonder if the investment community will back it as well because the money has to come somewhere. I'm also in favor of pushing for more local Solar along the lines of household domestic use considering we're burning through a lot of natural gas just dealing with peak load demands. Then again, I'm not in DC so all I can do is invest in areas where I think it'll help... You know, think globally, act locally but that still means dealing with retarded Gladys Kravitz types who will fight you putting up solar panels on your roof or planting a few more trees in your yard.
Pluto Rulz! It's still the best planet we've never visited! I say forget Mars, the smart Real Estate investor will be seeking beach front property on Pluto!
Wait, I hope you're talking about the Richard Dean Anderson years right? Even so, I'd still prefer if he'd MacGyver a couple of rubber bands together along with a Duracell or something to come up with a CO2 eater. If not that something that'll poke Pachauri in the eye at least.
A lesser known situation is if you actually create an energy surplus, food costs, logistic costs, and transportation costs get cheaper. So if we ramped our energy production up by 2-8x what we got now, people could charge their hybrid car at home for even less than they do now. I think this dream is often grouped up with a superconductor power grid idea which is unrealistic for the short term. I think for a better world, we should be aiming to create energy surpluses.
Uh, that's what's getting us into trouble with Hydro-fracking across the US in terms of going back to "burning stuff" vs. Nuclear. Natural Gas doesn't pollute like Coal but the production side of the equation destroys watersheds, releases more GHGs and has pushed energy prices down in the US. Nuclear is an unpopular scenario for a lot of people because of Fukishima, Three Mile Island and Chernoble. All you have to do is look at San Onofre in California to see how political wrangling has killed Nuclear energy in the US. Creating energy surpluses is considered anti-green because you're depleting resources, somewhere.
Unless there's a major push towards Nuclear on a lot of fronts it'll wither and die globally. Maybe we need like a GLAAD organization for Nuclear ??
To paraphrase a movie: "Climate Change is People!" There's too many people on this world, all wanting the same thing and that's what's causing this. Depletion of our resources is occurring at an accelerated rate all because of more and more people and the rush for economic expansion. Fundamentally there will be two paths ahead, one which means controlling population growth and the second the upheaval of the worldwide economic engines both of which are driving the higher CO2 levels. Of course if a volcano or two erupt here and there it won't help but neither is allowing for commercial deforestation and destroying watersheds. Well before we all burn up, we'll have wars over water and other key strategic resources. We know it's on the horizon because we all can't get along on this planet and we'll never come to a consensus on wealthier nations changing their ways while allowing less developed nations a chance at economic growth. We're about due for another World War aren't we?
My suggestion is to invest in Mountain-top real estate in a Northern latitude and live like Euell Gibbons.
Most nations are raising illiterate people. Illiterate people vote the way their party leaders want them too and they're more content with menial jobs like flipping burgers or working in WalMart. They also produce a correct amount of replacement workers that can come into the workforce to fill more menial jobs which is good for the economy. As always I blame the parents.
Also, stop picking on Germany they may go all Reichy on your ass!
Russians, Chinese it doesn't matter. We have lots of nations in competition in many hi-tech and low-tech fields always looking for an edge. Sometimes it's not state-sponsored either. Back in the 80s, Hitachi was found stealing computer technology trade secrets from IBM in the 80s and settled out of court. While technology today allows for the theft of more secrets and to reverse engineer just about everything out there more quickly, it's more imperative that companies take this kind of threat more seriously. Patents, which force the inventor to disclose how an invention works, are one thing but when whole industries are stolen it not only represents a national defense but a national economic issue as well.
While sitting in the terminal last week waiting for a flight out of Las Vegas, I noticed at one of the Slot Machine pits a desktop system that's used by the Slot Technicians and Game Attendants. It's was running XP. This was on Thursday of last week and there dancing on an old Dell Flat Screen was the XP Logon Screen Saver. Since the Games in the pit were Wheel of Fortune and others from IGT and Bally's I'm curious as to what the implications are for these kinds of discrete non-embedded systems? Considering how regulated gaming is across the US, I was surprised to see this really. I would have thought the Nevada Gaming Control Board would have come up with some edict or recommendations on getting away from XP since any person touching or interacting with games or game support systems must be cleared by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Exactly, most malware is transparent to the user but not to the network or other resources on the system. Let's face it, even though XP is mature it's holier than Swiss Cheese.
San Francisco isn't the first city to do this, Paris for example has had a similar law for years but only until 2010 started enforcing it. It's meant to drive tourism to Hotels for all the tax base benefits and to address the problem of affordable housing. AirBNB is a great idea but like Uber is allowing some cities to start abusing their citizens by preventing them from doing legal commerce that they can't control or tax.
I think you're referring to the recent change in Japanese policy change that will allow Japanese weapons manufacturers to export weapons. While I'm not a fan of weapons sales it is a business that can't be outlawed unilaterally because even if nations would agree to ban weapons exports and sales to other nations, there will be still nations like North Korea or Cuba who have a vested interest in selling their own weapons in violation of sanctions imposed by the UN. If your neighbor next door is ramping up their military in what you believe is going to negatively impact your nation, then you'll look to buy weapons yourself. If you can't buy them through normal channels, you'll buy them from illegal channels and that's where the North Koreans and Cubans come into play. Even the Ukraine has been caught pushing weapons into Africa for example.

Manbearpig?
That must be painful.

I was thinking Emory and Oglethorpe from ATHF, not Wormfaces...
We need to seriously hire that "Leave Britanny Alone" guy to make another video for Pluto.

micro-blink
Time to start working on that stargate.

Citation? From what I'm seeing in the press in recent years you'd think it was the last thing on their list.
Make condoms and contraceptives available to the general population and limit families to two kids.

POKE a hole in it, it's done.
This reminds me of Mystery Men for some reason regarding toggles...
Apple of course being in the role of Captain Amazing because we're obviously "morons."
I just threw up in my mouth. Think of Donald Trump too as well as Whoopi Goldberg... OMG Barbara Streisand too?!?
Nooooooooo.

Uh, hate to break this to you but the US has been selling arms to Japan for decades as part of the 1951 Mutual Cooperation and Security Treaty between the US and Japan.
