If he were looking to be a real dictator, he wouldn't have accepted the defeat of the constitutional referendum which would've allowed him to stay in office another term as well as "deepen the revolution".
Chavez will be gone in a few years -- he already lost the vote on that and conceded the point.
You're not impressed by 550 people pulling off something that took China the resources of 1.3 billion people plus a close partnership with the Russian space agency to pull off?
China's accomplishments are impressive, but no more so than the ESA's -- a government with immense funding learning from partners who already have the technology. SpaceX has pulled off a real, independent first -- more like Russia or the USA did in decades past.
Disagreeing about the content of a book doesn't make one a bigot. If I say the bible is a fairy tale of an evil deranged megalomaniac god, that's simply a literary review. If I say Christians are all evil deranged megalomaniacs, then that's bigoted.
perhaps it's occasionally necessary, to prevent dangerous tech from getting into private hands
A patent is an easily-searched publication of the specifications for doing something. If it's dangerous in the wrong hands, patenting it is the absolute last thing you want to do. Bad guys aren't scared by "here's how to do this -- but we'll sue you if you do it."
Undisputed browser feature champion? Heh, Opera has always been better on features... Firefox wins on stability, website compatibility and extensibility.
Yeah. If it weren't for this article, slashdoters wouldn't have realized that Microsoft exists and has products for sale. This has really raised awareness.
So you think a company should invest huge wads of money in a satellite to give the data away and thus derive no better market position than without it? Good luck with that.
Google doesn't have a special relationship with Mozilla... it pays Opera for searches too. You can't see how it would make much sense for Google to continue making as much money as it can, now that it has a way to make a little money on its own? Revenue from Firefox and Opera is just as real as revenue from Chrome.
Erm, you don't need to pay taxes to all the states -- only to yours. Use tax is at your own state's rate. The only tax laws you need to know are those for your location, since that's where an internet sale is considered to be taking place.
People say "everybody does it" to try to relieve their guilt at stealing from the honest people. I don't cheat on my taxes, and I have to pay more because of the people who do.
I'm all for proprietary software and write it myself, but my experience with ATI tells me closed video drivers in linux are an extreme pain every time you do a kernel update. That's why I'll buy Intel next time -- existing open source drivers, not just specs. Whenever VIA gets 3D support done open source I'll consider them too.
AT&T partners with a satellite provider (wildblue) to offer a branded "high speed internet" option to people who they don't actually service.
I think he sounds stark raving mad. I had no idea national leaders could be like that
You must not have seen a national leader before. Most of them are like that.

So, just like Firefox a.k.a. Iceweasel.
Chrome is BSD-licensed. That makes it likely there will be plugins including ad-blockers.
Devil-like aliens have planted all the fake evidence of evolution because they don't want us to deduce their existence.
Firefox-loving developers are just as guilty... an Opera user will frequently see "Please download Firefox or Internet Explorer" messages.
9.5 was a big stability downgrade.
