You have to fool VeriSign first, just like any other SSL man-in-the-middle attack, so I guess it depends on what you call easy.

As far as I am aware, the minerals aren't *required* to progress in the game. It's for upgrading your ship - might make the game easier, but not required, near as I could tell. Further investigation indicates that upgrades will keep certain characters from dying in the final battle. Again, not *required* to get all of them, at least.

It's $499 for the base model, $100 for the first 16 GB upgrade, then $100 for another 32 GB, and $130 for 3G & GPS. There really isn't room in there for a "just" anything, except maybe multitasking. How much is it for that upgrade?

  8. Re:N1 vs Iphone on Nexus One vs. Top 10 Phone Security Requirements · · Score: 1

Huge difference? I suppose, perhaps. I've got a shared iPhone 3G plan with my brother, and we're paying $80 a month each. That's $30 each for unlimited data, $15 each for unlimited text, and $35 each for 550 (I think) minutes a month. Considering that we don't use the voice part of the plan much, and that AT&T has Rollover, that means that when we need the phone to be used as a phone, it's there, and with a surplus of spare minutes for emergencies and whatnot, without paying for features we don't need.

The 2 year comparison done above was based on unlimited voice minutes as well, but didn't include texting on the N1 ($30 a month), so unlimited everything is $150 on iPhone 3G(S), $130 on Google Nexus 1. This means the difference over 2 years is $480, which is a large difference, but I wouldn't say huge, like the $1,200 difference posted above.

$3,780 for an iPhone: $200 for the phone, $150 a month for 24 months. This assumes the Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, and Unlimited Data (only the last is required).
$2,580 for a Nexus One: $180 for the phone, $100 a month for 24 months. This assumes Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Data. You didn't include the extra $30 a month for Unlimited Text. Just a little nitpick, that brings the total to $3,300.

I'm not saying one way or the other, but this workaround could've provided the building blocks for copying the still protected movies from iTunes onto an unauthorized device, which is a risk for Apple, one that they don't want to face. (I'm honestly asking this..) Do you know what iTunes does to make sure it's okay to transfer a movie onto a device? Maybe the way the Pre was showing up was as an authenticated iPhone, and so it was able to copy licensed movies onto it. The movies you buy off the iTunes store are not licensed to be transferred to anything other than iTunes, iPods, and iPhones (and Apple TVs).

Right now it's a person's ability to copy his own music from his own iTunes, but it had the potential for more. Furthermore, it had the potential to create problems between RIAA and Apple, because Apple was controlling what they were allowing people to put music on, and there was this little hole in their wall. Now, they have control over what devices you're putting the music on with their software again, just like they told the music people they'd be doing.

Your comment implies that syncing a Palm Pre with iTunes was a function fully intended and provided by Apple, and it wasn't. There were some crafty developers that took advantage of the simple handshake done with an iPhone, and emulated that on a Pre.

That would be absolutely amazing. I don't think you should have to destroy the book though - you've already paid your fees for the intellectual property, plus the printing, Amazon should just charge for the digital distribution. So, basically, any book that you've bought through Amazon in print you can get on Kindle for 99 cents (much more than actual distribution costs, I know, but this is more likely).
