There is a difference between what the workers are paid, and a demonstrable loss to a business during an outage. The loss to a business with fines and penalties can very easily run higher than 500k. And, that's not counting the reputation loss in the industry, which can account for a great deal more.
While not entirely germaine to this discussion of quantity limits, exporting iPhones, presumed innocence, and iElectricity I hadn't seen this part mentioned yet.
There is only one reason to skip most of the apple stores near or around Newton, MA. It's to avoid the Massachusetts sales tax, as New Hampshire has no sales tax. She was reportedly carrying $16k in cash so without paying sales tax, she would be able to purchases potentially 2-4 additional iPhones.
I think she knows a bit more English and "how things work" than her story would otherwise have us believe.
While I fully agree with what you just said, what do you imagine happens to the price of a commodity with finite (and thus diminishing) supply and increasing demand?
We won't have to worry about running out of oil for a bit; somewhere around 100 years depending on which source you believe. The price fluctuation is a game for profits, nothing more. This can be observed by the distribution stream, where people are paid NOT to produce at full potential, creating false demand. Also, the futures are suspect when a moth farts somewhere in the Middle East and the price immediately goes up -at the pump-, but there are no outcomes (aside from near miss global economic failure apparently) which cause an equally sudden decrease. Given advances in technology for producing and moving this stuff around, one could assume that the price would remain more stable It's a scam.
There are movies out there the studios should be paying people to watch (not the other way around) because they are just that bad. Do those people need to be compensated as well? If you answer with something along the lines of compensated with a shovel to the face, I agree.
It's not stupidity, its recon. Using the non-standard word in many mediums rather quickly reveals people with large sticks firmly wedged up their asses. These are usually people that can safely be ignored without any meaningful loss.
I too have all but given up buying new movie content, unless there is something special or magical about it. My BRD collection is about 4 movies. I chalk up my much larger DvD collection to not knowing any better. Disney is on the same list as Sony and Walmart; I vote with my wallet, but it seems not many others do.
I had the science teacher who informed us so knowingly that climate change would come about because ice would sink to the bottom of lakes and seas, in turn cooling everything down. Yes, I enjoyed the next week off for pointing out that ice, in fact, floats. Well, maybe it was the way in which I presented a counter-argument... IIRC it had something to do with the Titanic and his mother.;)
It's rather upsetting the SEALS were not using common sense. I thought these were the best and brightest. How much brain power does it take to know they probably should have asked permission, or at least notified someone they were assisting with a game. Equally sad is that MOH:Warfighter had tons of exciting potential in the theme but ended up predictable and lackluster in the delivered product.
The "bigger, better, more, more, more" mentality is a means to an end. That end being profits, no? I do understand your point and agree machismo/vanity plays a big role. I also agree that quality > quantity. Where we differ is that the status of numbers (likes, subscribers, etc) doesn't really explain the end game.
Vinny doesn't drive a blinged out '72 Camaro because he is vain, he does it to get laid.;)
people/companies are placing a real financial value on it.
I agree with OP... but I don't think it takes very many firing synapses to realize placing value on what is so easily spoofed and inflated is not going to turn out well. The value is based on greed.
This is a problem - it's a bubble in the making, and when it pops there are going to be some pretty bitter recriminations and a lot of money lost.
The dumber marketers are going to lose money. Good.
In fairness, I wasn't responding to the innovation part, just the bolded part. I tend to agree with you on your innovation view and vote with my wallet (in this case by not buying/installing), however I wouldn't expect any publicly traded company to care about innovation over bottom line (monopoly or not). I stated in a different thread yesterday that I'm not jumping on the W8 bandwagon until my XP/W7 hardware won't run or can't be replaced. I have W7 on my gaming PC, but I didn't install it and its fairly new and racy that W7 64bit made more sense than XP.
I would think that there would be some classic mode available at some point. There is an XP mode for W7.
Healthcare was rising, by my paystub, at 1% year on year. This year... 6%. And the plan services were weakened. This is not a good thing.
megaconz ... Intentional or not... seems accurate enough.
Should not require the user to "become used to it" in order to use it.
Pretty limiting flaw in your logic. If they never change anything, they'd never get better.
Disclaimer: Not a fanboy. I only use MS for gaming and have no plans to move to 8.

from the theater, for theater.

I want for mod points.
Because I didn't give it away. Some group of assholes did. Most of whom I did not vote for.
If it's any consolation, more than half of your fellow countrymen (based on voter participation) are OK with that "group of assholes".
If you look around and everyone else is an asshole, what does that suggest......
That the country formerly known as the US is now officially Upper Mexico? And more than half full of assholes.
We are being robbed.
How can you be robbed of something you gave away?
We were robbed when tax dollars were spent on green energy.

Our crushers are widely used in the fundamental construction projects
Says a lot about Chinese manufacture if they need to be crushed before they are considered built.

They are, in fact, the crowd that believes they are entitled to your money; i.e. consumers OWE them, regardless of the content.
So when I fill the microphone device on my set top box with glue, will I get ads for a better cable provider?
Put one of these in my backyard and let me plug in. There, now you have it, I'm willing to go green (nuclear green) for my electricity.

We have retarded patent, copyright, and trademark laws in the US. This is not news.

But this being a very powerful storm (see above), some didn't do so well. It could be have been worse in port though.
How many people would have been put in harms way if the boat had stayed in port
Up is Down.
