I've been waiting for this movie for years. I read the book a LONG time ago, and I enjoy it so much, I've had to buy 3 copies (I keep wearing it out). I hope the screenplay is as good as the book, and doesnt suffer as much as "Jurassic Park" did. It'd be great if they did a screenplay on the "Worthing Saga" series as well.

Why on earth is he going to the FCC? With his credentials, he could go just about anywhere, and have a lot less people laughing at him too. I'd rather see him at media fusion (article in D Magazine here) working on getting networks up accross the power lines. He could make a much bigger difference there. At the FCC he'll ust be sitting on his duff all day, helping to catch those "terrorist" pirate radio stations...

When is the Mac OS ever going to live up to the long ago promise of cross-platform binary compatibility? I remember that in an ancient edition of Macworld, they had an interview with Jobs regarding the then indevelopment os9, and it's special features. The one that caught my eye was he claimed that it would run windows 9x apps. It was enough to make me drool. I love the apple hardware, but I need to run PC apps (and well, games too). I was ready to go out and buy a new mac just to put that OS on it. Now, OS9 is old news, it doesnt run windows code, it still has trouble with mac code, and OSX info points that it wont run cross platform either. Whats going on in apple???

This is one of the best CPU comparison articles I have ever read. He goes into good detail about the differences in design between the 2 CPU's, and makes it pretty easy to understand. The one point he makes quite clear is that although each unit has it's advantages and disadvantages, their is no clear "winner" so to speak (he does favor the G4 though). I look foward to his next article about the altivec engine.

True, Linux currently has very few games. But developers/publishers are learning. Earlier this year (1999) Civilization: Call to Power was published on both the Windows and Linux platforms. Just last week, ID published the gold code for Q3 Arena for linux. And it runs VERY nice under linux. Especially if you have 2 processors. I don't know how many other hard core gamers there are out there, but I set up a dual celeron system and an SMP kernel pretty much for the sole purpose of running Q3A. And it is sweet. It's easier (and cheaper) to set up SMP on a linux system, and a pair of celerons is a lot cheaper than an athlon, and it has better performance. I think more developers are going to be heading in that direction in the coming years.

Consider this: When Windows first came out, nobody knew how to use it. Everyone had to read a poorly written manual. As time drew on, the system became better, and the need for a manual diminished. Hopefully, it will be the same with Linux. Considering that Linux is free, it is amazing that it works at all. As we go into a new century, I think that Linux will grow just as windows did.

Why would the craze around Linux fade? It's finally starting to hit the mainstream marketplace. If anything, it's going to shoot off like a rocket. We'll start seeing commercials and ad's all over the place, and every uninformed consumer will be going into best buy and compusa asking "well, uhhuh, whats linux?". Thankfully, It is also getting easier to install and use. This means that more people are going to be using it, more drivers will be available, more apps as well, and Microsoft will finally see what it's like to be the little guy.

Personally, I think we should leave genetics and the like alone until we REALLY know what we're doing. And as for that oil eating bacteria, what happens when it's genetics change just slightly from exposure or just random mutations, and the oil it eats is the kind that our sweat glands produce?? I don't think I'd want to be living anywhere near the beach when that happens...

To attract the big businesses would require lower taxes for tech based businesses, low land tax throughout (for the supporting businesses) and a good mix of really low income housing along side high income housing. As soon as I hear of a city such as this, I'm packing my bags and leaving dallas.
