... In Hell(s kitchen) before the banks open source their software. We can threaten them with boycotts and rioting all we want, if they OS their systems, we're gonna see all the back doors and ways their screwing us out of out money, as well as letting some less than friendly coders find a way to crack the security from the front end. I think we'll see Bill Gates release the source for Win2k before any bank gives out their systems. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Anyone else think they might have been browsing/.? Kinda like when everyone (sadly, even me) was bashing the proposed casting for Enders Game, Orson Scott Card made himself a little account and posted some replies to us. CIhost has an office just down the street from my house, and when I applied there, i noticed a lot of lax behavior. from everyone in the building. Their equipment was not kept clean or orderly, and according to one tech I spoke with, they only run backups every week or so, sometimes as long as 3 weeks! This is NOT flamebait or BS, I got this info from people in the company. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.

the article says "profile of a coder". Well, i'm a coder, even if I cant concentrate all that great. But I write dang good code. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
If (and I do mean if) they actually open source OSX, it will mean wonders for the community. People will begin tweaking their copy of the OS to have just what they need, just like linux. Heck, maybe somebody will even release a version for the x86 platform. And maybe someone will actually build in that windows binary compatibility that apple keeps promising. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
I code in anylanguage I can learn, but this isn't me at all. I can't concentrate for more than an hour at best, I hate twinkies (although I love pizza), I have a steady girlfriend (whom I play quake with and tend to lose), I go out and partcpiate in social interactions like playing pool, and I keep every light in my room on. Who the heck did they get to write that profile anyway? ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Let me get this straight; The card ONLY works in win98, doesn't have native OpenGL support, has a SLOW framerate, and it's ungodly expensive... Boy, sounds like a real winner to me. Why don't we all just go buy some old Cirrus chips, put 50 of them on a board, and sell it. Oh yeah.. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
At the daring risk of sounding even more moronic, where would I find this mailing list? ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
So does this mean that I can finally do video editing on a cheap machine while still leaving my home machine free for Quake/UT? ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
I hate to sound like a newbie, but I havent been coding on linux all that long. what is 1-k? ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
well then why do they keep promising that it will happen? Besides, if the mac kernel had GOOD support of windows code, apple wouldn't need M$. People accross the globe would flock to apple, and if Bill Gates wanted to keep making his billions per day, he would give apple whatever they wanted. Plus, we'd see some really great hybrid code, that takes advantages of both Windows and Mac whatever-box API's. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
I know it wouldnt be all that difficult to include generic softmodem support in the kernel, and that would REALLY make a lot of people happy (myself included). I wrote a mod for mine, but I'm not all that great at Kernel programming, and it has a habit of not working or crashing altogether. If it supported more devices (maybe better USB support as well), more people might consider linux over windows. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
True, techies know very little about laws, and care about them even less (in most cases). And lawyers really don't know anything about technology (the OJ Simpson case is proof of that). Perhaps we should join together?? Require that any lawyer using/fighting technology in their case have a "certified" techie as a consultant. The only question is who would decide what classifies as certified. We would need an agency designated for testing/training techs just for interaaction with lawyers. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
There are certain necessities that every telecommuter needs, and they are: 1) T3 line into the home (we gotta have fast connections...) 2) 25" flatscreen monitor (wouldn't want eyestrain, now would we?) 3) Kryotech SuperG workstation (gotta keep up with the network) 4) Biomorph ergonomic desk and chair (dont want carpel tunnel, do we?) With these simple necessities, anyone can work comfortably, and effectively from home, whilst still having a great quake'n system! ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
I bought redhat 6.1 a month or so ago, and it was ok, except when I set up my other partitions on my HDD, it didnt create the directories to mount it to. Small, but annoying. Corel did it automagically. Nice. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
scared, depressed and thoughtful is pretty much the state of Enders emotions in Enders game. too bad he's to old. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
I hate to be the "negative" one here, but, well, who cares? why base a desktop off of a RISC enviroment? What is its utility? Does it translate all your code or something? I'm not understanding here. WM's like Enlightenment and such provide form and function. From what I can tell about this one, its just like X, just looks different. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
I'm sorry, but she wasn't in that movie for her acting abilities. She's built like a blimp, and men love it. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
WTF??? The guy didn't put the light bulb on there, but the vaccuum tube and an electric hand dryer made it??? That guys must be paid by microsoft. I'm surprised he didn't put down the dang intellieye mouse while he was at it... ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Sorry, I don't mean to keep reposting, but I do have a question for Uncleorson as long as he is around. Do you (or anyone else, for that matter) plan on making a screenplay of The Worthing Saga? That was one of my favorite novels, and I think it could be made into a great movie. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
True, I should not have made a personal comment about someone I do not know. I sincerely hope that if he IS used for Enders game, he does perform up to expectations of the audience, and you. Sadly, the only basis that the public has to judge him on is star wars, and that was such a poor representation of cinematography that it made me sick. Hopefully, having such negative expectations of his acting abilities will not hinder the popularity of the movie. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
What are you smoking? My 2 year old nephew could have done better! And that line "you told me to stay in the cockpit"... What, did he have to read that off the cue card sitting in front of him? I've never heard anyone speak in such a whiny voice that was also so devoid of emotion (except maybe my ex) ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Heck yeah! That kid in sixth sense would be perfect. I can't stand the brat from Phantom Menace. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
I didn't realize they were using that little brat for Ender. He couldn't act to save his life. And Card was afraid that he would "culkinize" the part? Yeah, that could have been a problem, but at least Culkin can express emotion and act a LITTLE. I don't know if I want to see this now. I always pictured Ender as a bit of a nerd, and that brat is more of a pretty boy. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
