I think it's a great idea to open source quake. It allows programmers like myself to learn tricks of game programming from the masters. It's sad that we have people in this world that would take something like open source and use it to cheat in the game. What fun is a game that you know you're going to win anyway? ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Interesting. You're calling me an idiot, yet you are unable to produce ONE sentance with correct grammer. Quite pitiful. My condolences to your family for having to raise you. And please, next time, I might take you just a bit more seriously if you had an actual account with/. It's not as though it would take a large amount of your precious time to set up... Time that you could better use mating with you sister... ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
My 86 year old grandmother hasn't the slightest clue who Bill Gates is, but she read an article about linus recently (I believe it was in a tabloid), and was asking me about him. And no, I wasn't flipping out on him. I apologize if it came out like that. I was actually just trying to add some humor to a rather boring monday. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Where the hell have you been, the north poll? More people know who Linus is and where he works (transmeta) than people know who bill gates is. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
The fact that your country spends millions a year on patents in foreign countries is just another problem of the system. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
I dunno... To me, there is just something wrong with people making money off of a free operating system. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
It wouldn't surprise me if Lucas was going through the movie frame-by-frame making sure it lives up to his "high and mighty" standards. Well, hopefully he'll take out any scene with that dam kid in it. That boy couldn't act his way out of a soap opera... ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
The whole point is that I know of "good hackers" (such as myself), who don't believe that they're "entitled" to have access to some server or a firewall, nor am I going to ask for it. I take it, and I prove myself trustworthy by not abusing the knowledge that I have gained. I just think that the media is too hyped up on the "bad hackers" and their dam manifesto (whoever wrote that just shot the hacker community in the foot), and they need to look at the advantages they bring. For instance, AT&T used to have terrible security on their calling card system. The numbers were sequential for goodness sake! Well, some hackers came along, and rather than selling those numbers to some really dangerous people, who would rack up a bill large enough to put AT&T out of business, they ran up a "small" bill, and taught AT&T a lesson. Some groups actually promote computer security by breaking that security. In a fashion, computer security has become self evolving. Programmers create a new security system, it is tested by the hackers, and if it survives, it flurishes. If it fails, everyone knows about it and it dies off. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
OK, patents orignally started out as a good idea. If you invented a product, you could "patent" it to prevent others from using it. That worked. Now, we can patent everything from cars to software to ideas?? Who is to say that someone else in India didn't have the same idea years ago, but had neither the means (money), or the way(communication) to "patent" their idea. So once again the US Patent oriface considers itself to be the policing agency for the world, even though it's really only accessable to people in the US. Does anybody else see something wrong here? ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Whats wrong with you?!? Advertising your AllAdvantage ID on a/. thread. Man, you're sick. Sounds like something Dan Quale or Bill Gates would do... ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
There are good hackers out there. Don't assume that just because you are not one, or do not know one that they don't exist. I have had my share of cracking systems, and I have never done it will bad intentions. I am mearly curious, and I want to learn more about the system and security systems. I always leave a note, and most times I actually receive a reply from the admin. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Good reference. I like it. But there are some hackers that are not just trying to cause trouble. Myself for example. I have "cracked" a few websites in my day, and my only intentions were to prove I could do it, and learn a little in the process. I have always left a message for the admin, and most times I receive a return message from him/her thanking me. Sounds corny, but its true. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Why the heck would I want to? WMA is only a tiny bit smaller than MP3's, and the quality isn't even as good. I'd rather spend my time writing a new backend server for streaming MP3's that actually works, and distributing it cheap. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Yeah, and they dont need to crap anymore either, because they have a wonderful invention which allows them to recycle their waste... ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
This isn't a mark of the beast. It's a way for Big-frikin-Brother to track you. Thankfully, in our "wonderful" democratic society here in the US-of-A, we don't have to worry about that (yet). Even in 20 or 30 years, the implant will still be too large for them to implant it without us knowing, and no publicly elected offical would do that without the consent of the masses, which they would never get. Personaly, I'm not to worried. Besides, I'd sure as hell like to know where my girlfriend is when she says shes at work and she isn't... ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
What the hell is wrong with that guy?? What reason is there to have your tongue spilt and scales attached to your skin? I think this is the result of an uncle playing "catch the trouser snake" early in that boys youth... ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
Why hasn't anyone done a story about the "good" hackers out there? The ones that simply crack a site and leave a note for the admin about how to tighten their security. Those guys SAVE the company a fortune. Rather than having to hire some BS company to examine their system, some little scriptkiddie comes along and does it for them. I think that more than makes up for a few defaced web pages (which really didnt cost anywhere near that much to replace). ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
At first, it sounds like a great idea, but if you actually think about it for more than 5 seconds, it sucks. Rotating programmers throughout a project?? Not only is that going to lead to unmaintainable code, but you'll have programmers working in areas that they know nothing about. ======= There was never a genius without a tincture of madness.
