This isn't stealing the general concepts of another and creating an original body of work. This is taking something that someone else created and selling it.
I would have to second this opinion. Given that the Backgrounds are evidentally static screenies, then I don't see a lot of difference between this, music mix CDs and/or video mashup. There isn't a big difference. But, when you sell a mix CD, you have to pay all of the artists for the rights to sell their song.
Heck, I use the background images from Bejeweled as wallpaper. Does that make me an IP infringer? If I give the wallpaper to the guy in the next office am I then a pirate? If you were selling a pack of wallpaper that was simply images from Bejeweled, then yes, you are violating their IP rights.
Wouldn't you wonder why there are all the little graphics of a map, compass, weapon and health bars are? I can see not immediately knowing that these graphics are stolen, but wouldn't these make you at least question your "artists"?
If you're going to go through all this trouble, you might as well start from scratch. Make a language only you and people you wish to secretly communicate with know.
Why would they have designed the thing to have such a low tolerance filter in the first place? Cuz they had to strap it on a rocket and shoot it to Mars? I kinda doubt a full sized lab furnace would be under the weight requirement.
Yes, but there are estimated to be hundreds if not thousands of objects large enough to be round in the Kuiper belt. While you might argue that all of those should be planets, I'd prefer if the term "planet" invoked the idea of a really large mass, and not just an overgrown asteroid.
So why do they sign the contract? Why do they not ask any questions about what is meant by the text they don't understand? They often times do. Unfortunately, they usually trust the lender or real estate agent to act in their best interest. And, in many cases, the agent will just lie or say that its just there for the lawyers.
It's fine that they are still productive. But members of the public should not be forced to give up some of their own productivity (in the form of money) to support such individuals when they become unproductive. Why would I have to give up any of my money? Giving these people tax dollars isn't the solution. The lending companies are the ones that should be targeted. They can either be forced to remove all predatory practices (like increasing your interest rate by several hundred percent due to one late payment), or simply forced to erase the mortgage completely and give total ownership to the individuals.
The only people hurt by that are the ones that work for/invest in the predatory lending companies. But, they're the ones I don't have any sympathy for. If I were to start up a company that sends out emails from Nigeria, the people investing in my company are much more to blame than the people that send me their bank account info in hopes of becoming rich.
Allowing people that make bad investments to fail and lose tons of money is one thing. But these people were victims of fraud, and people, no matter how dumb, should be protected from fraud.
I have no sympathy for people who sign contracts without reading them, nor for banks that associate with such shady sources. Companies and individuals that purposely do not investigate the risk of such endeavors will fall. It is not our responsibility to provide a safety net for bad practices - doing so brings the whole system down, because everyone starts thinking they can make mistakes and someone will protect them from the consequences (for free at that!) I agree with you in principle. The "predatory" lending was completely laid out in the contracts people signed. However, many people (not the crowd that reads this) don't have even a slight understanding of what any of it means, let alone know how to realistically budget for years in advance or how to prepare for less than status quo times.
Its people like this that lending laws are designed to protect. As uninformed as they may be, most/many of them are productive members of society.
I'd agree with you. I saw the summary and immediately jumped to the conclusion of "people more comfortable with computers would tend to use IM and would also tend to beinging more productive"
Of course, I work in a very small office, so the time it takes to walk to anyone else's desk is a few seconds.
I was about to refute your statement and link to several places that show the massive increase in hurricane damage over the past few years, but then I stumbled across data that was normalized to population/infrastructure and you're right. There's more damage from hurricanes these days, but it looks to be driven by the value of the areas rather than the intensity of the storm.
the hurricane season that hasn't happened in 4 years. But oh, we're going to get more hurricanes, any day now. Huricane frequency isn't all that connected with global warming, hurricane intensity is what should increase.
Of course, by that same logic, naysayers can always claim that each side carried out its measurement last, negating whatever benefit this "feature" supposedly proves. But from each reference frame, they will be carrying out their measurement first. Saying that they each are carrying out their measurement last means that the naysayers no longer are arguing on a scientific basis, but are just being assholes.
But I think the second part suggests that if you let your photon bounce around randomly, you may be able to know when it's in sync with it's pair thus knowing the phase of the paired photon. But, you can't know when its in sync unless you measure it. And, once you do that, it will no longer be in sync.
I've never quite understood why this conflicts with GR. It seems like from Alice's perspective, when they both make their measurements, Bob is the superposition of having the same result or the opposite result. It is only after they communicate (restricted by the speed of light) that his results can be compared with hers and his superposition collapses. In other words, there are two measurements done by Alice, one of her photon, one of Bob, and they don't require any faster-than-light communication.
He's suggesting using entanglement to communicate faster than light. I think he's forgetting that once your manipulate the photon, it will no longer be in sync with its pair.
Its pretty bumpy for a giant spacecraft pushing itself through the atmosphere. It shouldn't be as bumpy for a single photon.
Plus, I assume they'll be using hundreds or thousands of photons over the coarse of the experiment, even if 90%+ are affected on the trip there, it will leave plenty of data points undamaged.
Ok, it might be impossible to make classes perfectly balanced. But, all you have to do is make the classes balanced enough so that any difference in "power" is totally overshadowed by the player's skill.
Yes, differences in level and gear make a huge difference in the outcome of a battle. But, in an RPG game, that's sort of the point.
As for one class having to be "overpowered", that isn't necessarily true. It is possible to balance the different abilities so that no class has an advantage. You can also go with the rock, paper, scissors approach in that every class has another that it overpowers, but also has a class that overpowers it.
FPS games are usually incredibly well balanced, but even they have some asymmetry in objective based battles. It can be due to the two different sides having different objectives (attack/defend) or from slight asymmetry in maps (one base is easier to defend than the other).
That must have been awkward. No, his dwarf fighter had a really high stamina and strength score, so once he rolled well enough to seduce the elven wizard, the rolls he needed to screw her were pretty low.
I disagree! And, I have evidence:
Googling "more is better" returns 177,000,000 results.
Googling "more is worse" returns 114,000,000 results.
QED
I'm an uncultured idiot, you insensitive clod!

Yes, but you can click that little box that says "Post Anonymously" when you are logged in.

Flawed data is better than no data.
Right?
