Try reading Oscar Wilde's "The Soul of Man Under Socialism". Over a hundred years ago he was imagining a world where machines were the new slaves and the majority of mankind was released from the drudgery of labor.

Sure it's all beer and skittles if you don't have to think about how the "majority of mankind" is going to clothe and feed itself. For those things you need money or a system instead of money like a barter system. Then again we could try living in "Bitchun Society" and try to accumulate "Whuffie"

I don't know the reason, but I think it's mostly because people just don't trust the fact that information that would be available over a WiFi net would be hackable enough that someone could get in and download all sorts of tidbits.

  8. The Secret on Thought-Provoking Gifts For Young Kids? · · Score: 1
The whole secret to buying gifts for kids, as far as I'm concerned, is to buy them stuff that fits their interests AND and is sufficiently different than the crap other relatives buy. This takes brain power. Rather than saying books, puzzles etc. you actually have to think "What would the kid want?".

For example I have a 3 year old autistic grand daughter who loves picture books.Last year I went to B&N shopping and came up with a book with pictures that seemed to move as the pages were turned. She still hasn't put it down. An 8 year old grand son joined the Boy Scouts and was taking it very seriously, so I bought him a Boy Scout Knife. Some of the grand children are much younger and I find that Think Geek as a first stop shopping place.

Know the kid and shop intelligently!

Lately, ROKU has added a metric shit ton of content, and it seems to be growing constantly. I have looked at products like Google TV, Apple, and Boxee and none of the seems to come close to the ROKU in terms of content and ease of use.

At first I had the ROKU in my bedroom, using wireless WIFI, and it worked well enough. Since then I moved it to my living room and hooked up via ethernet and that's also good.
