    Can I drop it onto concrete from ear height, Snap the cover back on, replace the battery and find it continues to work like nothing happend? It's always been a feature of Nokia phones that I've loved.

    I worked in a local authority computer workshop in the 80s and there was a period when BBC micros were in very short supply. During this time we were getting imports from Germany and these BBC micros had a different spec to the uk ones. One major difference was the whole motherboard was enclosed in a very sturdy metal faraday cage. Presumaby german rules on RF interference were tougher than ours. On another note regarding Apple IIs. I'm a Brit and I learned to program on one of those and would love to see one again. My best memory of the apple II was that the ref manual had the assembler listing for the OS printed in the back. I still have it now. Those were the days ........

    The point here is not that they will guess the encryption key first time but may guess what product was used to encrypt it and what password used. It would then all come down to password strength. i.e Use TrueCrypt password drowssap and they may well hit it in 1.

    Assuming you are just taking snapshots I would not encrypt anything as that would arouse suspicion and a suspicious customs officer may invade your privacy a lot worse ways than flicking through your holiday snaps. Rubber gloves etc....

    I too used to think that hard drive activity that occurs when you are not actually using the drive was a sign of a virus. Then I later found out about thermal calibration. You see the data density in disks these days is so tight that the expansion of the drive caused by temperature increase is enough to put the heads way off target so the drive regularly calibrates itself to the current temperature. So next time your drive light goes off unexpectedly don't panic.....:-)

    My Mobile phone has a 4Gb flash card the size of my little fingernail. If I had any files that I didn't want customs to see I'd keep them on there and hide it somewhere they'd never find it. Come to think of it I'd probably never find it once I got there. :)
