Interesting anecdote, however there can be a big difference.

Amongst my many jobs over the years iIwas a live engineer and did some maintainance for one of the hire companies. they had a permanent install at a large hotel, which was always light on for bass on one side (This was a 3 way active x-over system with seperate amps for each frequncy band, the LF band dual 18" bandpass subwoofer was driven by a 1000W RMS /chan amp)

When I replaced the 2mm cables with dual 4mm the bass volume doubled! Its really a simple matter of the more copper the better! Note that more copper increases the damping factor of the system also, resulting in cleaner bass with less speaker flap.

Theres nothing wrong with lamp cable as long as it has sufficient cross sectional area of copper for the power it is required to carry.

My favourite example regarding cables such as Monster cable, was an article in the dear departed Electronics Australia.

After extensive teasting the article finished with the conclusion there was no difference.

They put it like so "We are of the opinion that if we cannot measure any difference there is no difference.

Didnt stop the loonie "Golden Ear" brigade form complaining though!

Quite clear on the nature of facts thanks.

Despite you saying it the fact is most people apart from the misguided Slashdot "its tech it must be great crowd", would not want to live near a reactor, it is called NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard)-and is a well known effect.

Is it an uneducated knee jerk response to
accept the reality of human nature? Apparently here on /. it is.

I would not want to live near one and the fact is most people would not either, apart from the slashdot nuclear evangelist types like yourself. NIMBY factor here is very strong.

Whilst the survey shows 51% in favour if the question was should a reactor be built near your home the answer would be very different. And that is why it will not happen.

Whilst we have heaps of Uranium here in .au, the vast majority do not want Nuclear power(Surveys run around 75-80% against). Now you can all jump up and down and cry foul, but that is the reality, right or wrong.

Redneck is a term not a nationality.

    Try a reading comprehension course.

At no stage did I say self defence was not civilised, its just if you behave in a careful and civilised manner you dont need to defend yourself.

    You probably would not understand.

In the U.S. for 2001, there were 29,573 deaths from firearms, distributed as follows by mode of death: Suicide 16,869; Homicide 11,348; Accident 802; Legal Intervention 323; Undetermined 231.(CDC, 2004) This makes firearms injuries one of the top ten causes of death in the U.S. The number of firearms-related injuries in the U.S., both fatal and non-fatal, increased through 1993, but has since declined steadily.(CDC, 2001) However, firearms injuries remain a leading cause of death in the U.S., particularly among youth (CDC, 2004).

The number of non-fatal injuries is considerable--over 200,000 per year in the U.S

So how about you explain how the 802 accidental deaths made the dead safer?

Living in a country where guns are largely banned, I dont atagonise people so I dont get attacked.

I have wandered the streets of many large cities very late at night and by being careful have never needed to defend myself even once. If you have I suspect it is due to your own stupid actions and attitude. Try stopping being an asshole and you might not need a gun. I never have needed a gun.

So in my view idiots that stupidly put themselves in harms way deserve what they get.

Why on earth would I have a gun if I am careful enough to never need one.

Find another way to compensate for your obvious inadeqacy issues.

Thinking peolpe reject the notion that everyone carrying guns makes anyone safer. Its a blatantly stupid statement.

Virtually no one carries a gun here but police,
and we are in much less danger than US citizens of murder.

So keep believing your Henleinesque fantasy if you want, just be prepared to be regarded as retarded by civilised people, as you are in this case.

Criminals get their guns most often by stealing those of your legal owners, so yes, less legal guns = less guns in the hand of criminals.

When will you guys realise guns never made anyone safer?
