We discussed the implications this would have on a distibuted network such as FreeNet.
The conclusion we drew (or at least I did) was that as long as the there ditributed net was sufficiently large enough and old enough so that enough replication had occured, a distributed system could survive temporary outages of this sort....
Call the operator after they hang up on you. Explain that you are receiving prank calls, etc.. whatever it takes to bother them. Everyone do this. Do it EVERY time this happens. The phone company will become so bogged down, they'll demand ABC stop doing it.
You might also be interested to know that this information (FBI names etc) and files have all been posted into the freenet system. They'll be around for quite a while it appears. Freenet
I think the slashdot readers here, sometimes forget the importance of what Katz is saying.
If we begin to give up our freedoms, we are the generation future ones will look back on and BLAME for their misfortunes.
If we don't exercise our rights and educate people of these limitations of freedom, then the people on top can do whatever they want simply because of the ignorance of the people.
By simply criticizing Katz and not giving this ANY thought you are simply increasing the overall ignorance of our society.
does anyone remember that effor to run Win32 apps that was being done by Trumpet down in AU? What ever happen to that too? There was a lot of hype and I haven't heard peep about that either.
so either wireless, OR... bury cat 5 and utilize repeaters to strengthen the signal. I think they are expensive though.
But if I was you, I would speak to someone into Amateur Radio. If he's only a few doors down, you should have line of sight, and if you have that, you should be able to rig up something pretty easily.
I've been in contact with Digiweb (an Interliant company).
Just FYI, the scans are not coming from them. Their website is simply hosted there. But in response and to avoid security "problems", the site has been taken down. Gotta love security precautions
So for now, at least they can't spread anymore of their corporate mumbo jumbo
Also it appears the DNS is in the process of changing. We're seeing odd IP changes here (I'm right off the Digiweb network) so it appears they are moving the site.
Any info on the source of the IP scans would be appreciated.
easy of use should not be an issue

These devices need to be completely plug and play. Especially entertainment type devices. These need to be plugged in and turned on to work. Without that kind of ease of use, you can forget mainstream market. Make it as easy to setup as a receiver and you'll win customers.
I must work close to 70 hours a week. I'm paid for 40 but I end up putting in 12 hour days mon-fri and at least another ten over the weekends.
That does not even come close to including the time spent absorbing more and more technical mumbo jumbo to keep myself competitive with my colleagues. Being a competitive person, I'll be damned if someone will have the edge on me. My passion of technology has become a requirement. Now I wonder why I need to know the name of the next chipset to support the athlon, or stability issues of different hardware with different server software.
I spurt out knowledge off the tip of my tongue faster then I race to work (late as usual), to my friends who stare dumbfounded at me and ask me to explain but to please slow down. SLOW DOWN??? Don't they understand that if I do, I'll slowly wither and die? or will I...?

Black Hat, Red Hat, Blue Hat, Two Hat.... and you thought this would be a serious post...

Spread it on Freenet. They can't take it down that way.
but is there away to make our voices heard?

bull$hit, mark it 8 dude.
well unfortunately, VC have controlling interest in most of his house.
The rest of the value must be devided up amongst the over priced CEO needed to take his house to the market and his stock broker...

What about using radio, hmm... what about that microwave dish that guy was working on. Wasn't that from here?
