Unlike weapons and sprays, the jacket can't be grabbed from a woman and used against her.
Two words: "Super Soaker"
I'm picturing a scene where a bunch of street toughs notice a woman wearing this jacket (it will be undetectable, suuuure), they corner her and frighten her into activating it, then out come the squirt guns. The scene ends with these guys running away, laughing their asses off while this frightened girl flops around on the ground like.......well....like a woman being electrocuted by her own coat.

I understand back in the 70's Al Gore took the initiative in creating Linux:)
I got a Dell with the Radeon 9800 card because I wanted the dual monitor support. However xfree86 does not seem to support it at all. Does anyone know of a driver or any plans for a driver to be released for this card? I really do not want to run XP at work any longer than I have too;)
My god it is like you know me... I take offense to one thing though:
Yeah, those old mainframes probably crashed more often than Windows does today
Nope. Almost never. I was a mainframe sysprog (os/390 baby) from when I was 21 to 24, and never once did our mainframe crash. Certain applications perhaps, but never the OS, and never the really important things (database, JES, transaction processor, TCP/IP, etc)
The difference between MVS 3.8 and today's OS/390 is about the same as the difference between Win95 and WinXP. I.E., Win95 would give you a pretty good understanding of Windows, and WinXP just builds on that.
Having both installed MVS 3.8 on hercules and worked as a sysprog on a very large OS/390 for a few years I'm going to have to really disagree with you on that. Sure some of the concepts are similar but almost nothing you learn on the MVS system is really going to carry over effectivly. WAY too much has changed.
Haha, old timer! I'm a 24 year old systems programmer with three years experience working on IBM s/390 (now Z series) mainframes. And to boot, I have no family or social life (how could I, really?) to get in the way of working, so I'll take that job you had your eye on:)
Were you to try to do ANYTHING with a mainframe (I'm thinking s/390 or z/OS here) armed with the knowledge you mentioned you would be so horribly lost it wouldn't even be funny.

If you have a knowledge of Unix history, read the paper with a critical eye, and do a little research, its not hard to find errors, omissions, overstatements, and what appear to be some dubious legal claims.

If this were true, then why did they use the phrase "the people" to mean something completely different in this amendment than in every other amendment that includes that phrase?
That said, I think your position is very rational (regarding safety courses, background checks, etc) and I totally agree.
I agree with most of what you say, but to be fair every laptop I have ever owned will beat the Zaurus hands down on battery life. With a wireless card in my Thinkpad T23 I get about 2, maybe 2.5 hours. with a wireless card in my Zaurus i get maybe 45-60 minutes.
Actually I work there (as well as take classes occationally, I'm on the 10 year slooooooow degree plan).
From what I understand, our new IST (information science and tech) program is pretty much owned by microsoft as well. This kind of corporate ownership is not limited to PSU though, I hear it is happening everywhere. It seems to be only a matter of time before corporations begin dictating academic programs...
I just watched the star wars trilogy for the first time in ages last weekend, and I was struck by how much more realistic the models looked than the CG stuff in ep 1 and 2. Maybe because they were "real" (small, but actual physical objects). Oddly, the CG stuff in LOTR looked fine to me, and blended into the rest of the film seamlessly, so who knows.
I can't put my finger on "why" exactly, that is just how I feel.
With a member of the RIAA on the board of trustees, I doubt PSU will ever stand up to the RIAA, no matter what they do.
You can't even trust academia to defend their own these days. Sheesh.
Look at the state of higher ed today. It is all about corporate sponsership and pleasing their corporate masters. The students are just a necessary annoyance. At PSU our career services building is called the MBNA building and Pepsi products are the only soft drinks that are allowed to be sold on campus.
To further back you up on that, I went ahead and bought quite a few tracks that I had previously downloaded on Limewire. Partly because I wanted better sound quality on a few of them, but mostly because this is the kind of thing I want to support and a couple of bucks is not going to kill me.
The real "killer app" part of this whole thing for me is the free 30 second sound clip you can listen to for each song. Helped my find some songs I would never have thought to download (because I only knew the artist and not the song title).
Sure, it will have that effect. But I think the negative publicity that the music industry is getting from this (and all the other actions over the last 5 years or so) will hurt them more than p2p software. These kind of things are no longer just affecting computer geeks and being talked about only on slashdot.
Case in point, years ago most non-computer people I know were talking about napster and how bad it was that people were stealing music. Today, even Joe Blow knows that the record industry is acting like a bunch of spoiled assholes and activly going after a bunch of poor college students for outragous fines. This IS being reported in non-geek media and people ARE starting to get the picture. This will hurt the RIAA.
Unfortunatly that is probably what they want. They already have congress convinced that no matter how much of a profit they make they SHOULD have made much more and p2p is always to blame. Worse business for them means more laws in their favor.
Sure they exist. But in general, they are an even bigger PITA to deal with than the so called normal ones. Oh and except for a few exceptions, they tend to be ugly or fat or both.
Which is probably EXACTLY how they think of male computer geeks.
Someone explain to me how this isn't colonization?
Ummm, because it isn't? Do you know what colonization actually means?
If we do what we are saying we are going to do and actually lead them into a self sustaining democracy, they can easily repeal the crap out of the dumb laws that rosen will most likely leave them with. Or they could outright reject them from the start. Now how the US will react to THAT will truely show its intentions regarding Iraq.
Still you have to wonder what kind of twisted mind thinks Iraq needs IP laws right now...

Have you written any exits in assembly for JES2 (or
