But that doesn't mean that some of the predictions of disaster that seem wild on face value aren't based in science or that real science isn't being done to test them. It's all about signal to noise ratio and doing the scientific leg work to sort out the chaff.

For example, talking about the raising sea level putting population centers under water is a wild claim of disaster that on face value is both hysterical and propagandistic. But there is a scientific basis for it and we can empirically test whether the ice is melting and the sea level is being effected by it.

Actually, it's the hottest month on record by mean temperature and there's actually a prediction made by climate scientists in Australia that Darwin would have the greatest increase in mean temperature of Australian capital cities in the hot months, meaning that Darwin, instead of Perth, would have the most days per year over 35C within a few years (and if you look at the article, it actually makes a note of the number of days over 35).

In other words, they made a prediction based on the science and that prediction is proving to be correct.

Putting ideological misgivings about Keynesian economics and government control aside; it's nothing like a Ponzi scheme, just like all interest bearing loans that are invested wisely aren't Ponzi schemes.

In a properly designed fiscal stimulus, there is an aggregate return on the investment (value is created) in the form of increased aggregate demand (greater growth now) as well as long term infrastructure and R&D that will provide future growth and benefit (i.e tangibles that provide value over time). In a Ponzi scheme there can't be an aggregate return on investment, because there is nothing of value produced and the net amount of value is the same.

It doesn't scale whole GDI Windows as bitmaps, no. However, a DPI aware application does scale all your controls, including some bitmaps on XP (like image boxes), if the application is setup correctly (also, WinForms makes this a fair bit easier). Note that you need to set a few properties here and there for this to happen however.

There are also registry settings that allow you to adjust various image scalings for the system, like the scale of the task bar icons.

Actually, even XP will do this as long as the application programmer hasn't specifically chosen for this not to happen and has designed the layout properly. The only real problem with setting a higher DPI on XP is the start bar (etc) icons and that can be fixed with registry tweaks.
