Different people have different styles of note taking that works best for them. I use an HP tablet to take notes for grad school - people like me would be out several hundred dollars if the school decided to ban laptops because some people can't stop staring at another person's screen.

Exactly - it's extremely irritating how men are blamed for everything in the US. From time to time I'm around when a girl in my family is watching Dr. Phil and he always has his mantra of "it's always the man's fault" - the most he'll ever blame a girl is saying that "she could've done things better" but then say that "it's still his fault".

Yes, this is the class of people who (rightfully so) keep getting held back in school. Sure, there are some hard words to spell - but most tests will acknowledge that and will ignore the occasional typo on a long / infrequently used word. However, most spelling is NOT complicated. If you can't figure out how to spell of the difference between they're, their, and there, odds are you're not going to be able to write an essay anyways.

All this policy is doing is encouraging kids to not learn and to type "lik dis iz how u r sppz 2 spel". Do you really want to live in a society where that's not just the norm among idiot kids, but also used in businesses and government? I sure as hell don't.

According to you though, it's more "convenient" to have one person drive home, then get online and play. You can easily do BOTH. I also know a lot of gamers like myself who refuse to play online with random people due to the absolute truth of John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory (if you don't know what this is, google it).

Oh, and I know it's popular to bash 3D on Slashdot, but I saw it in 3D and I feel like it added something to it.

Exactly. The 3D was used to add depth and bring the world to life - it wasn't about gimmicky effects. I think that's why so many people are bashing it - because they wanted a "OMG the disc is coming out of the screen!" moment and they (wisely) didn't do that.

  15. Re:Ugh... on Tron: Legacy · · Score: 1

I think you were asleep and not paying attention to the story at all then. Was it "A Beautiful Mind"? No, but it was definitely a much better story than you usually find.

Regarding your complaints: 1) Sam did use those abilities while fighting and racing - or did you miss the whole scene with him in the games? 2) CLU isn't real - nothing in the Grid is real, thus it's not some huge crisis if something doesn't look "real". I agree that he didn't look real - not denying it, just saying that you're ignoring the world and story to complain over a small technical issue. 3) Who cares? It was an interesting scene, especially since you had no idea where they were going with it. 4) Flynn did have special powers and he did use them. Again, I think you were asleep. 5) The Iso's are programs who randomly spawned - think Darwin with computers. Thus, this makes the Iso's different because they simply came into being; no one wrote them. 6) It didn't need to be a huge scene because Tron isn't the main character. Also, general consensus is that they did the scene that way to leave an opening for a sequel.

I find it very odd that you say Tron: Legacy had a bad story, yet you think Tron had a good story. Tron was a great concept with mediocre story and bad acting. Is it a fun movie? Yes, but let's not watch it with rose colored glasses and make it out to be something it's not.

The 3D did what it was SUPPOSED to do - it added depth and made it feel more realistic. It wasn't supposed to be about flashy effects for the 3D, it was about making the movie feel more real - which it did perfectly.

The only times banks gave out loans to people with little chance of paying them off was when they were pressured by the government via the CRA (implementation of the strengthened CRA during the 90's coincides perfectly with the rise in home prices adjusted for inflation). That's why it annoys me to see the very politicians who voted for the CRA stand there and blame banks for what they forced banks to do.

Sure, the people who took those loans shouldn't have, but if only one party, ie the banks, had done the right thing at any step of the way, everyone could have still come out of this without it having been half as bad as it's been.

Now THAT'S the modern American spirit! Blame someone else for your bad decisions! If you can't afford to pay all your bills and save money for the future, then you need to cut down on your bills. This applies to everyone, regardless of how much money you make.
