This was indeed my original point. I tend to ignore all those class action letters. I had one where a company actually screwed me out of 3500 USD. I got a $35.00 check. The lawyers got a couple hundred grand, and they were in no way wronged. (It was like getting blood from a turnip or I would have gone after them for the max in small claims. I figured I would get nothing. So perhaps 1% is not so bad...)
Once again, some law firm gets millions for shuffling some paperwork around, and the consumers who actually experienced the problem get a few bucks each.
Just doesn't seem right.
"Atheists aren't some elite group, who, through patient and thoughtful deliberation have come to an objective understanding of the universe and the people around them."
Huh? You are obviously not an Atheist... Because that is what every atheist I have ever met is... Though we don't consider ourselves elite, just open minded.
Also, this patent, and my behavior when choosing a route, have nothing to do with race. They are are based on crime statistics. I don't want to be mugged or shot by a white guy any more than by some other race.
That is the most racist thing I have heard in a while. Racism is when you discriminate based on race. You would be doing exactly that... Just like so-called affirmative action... Both are racist concepts that have no place in a civil society.
Sounds like it is an exploit of an issue with a windows component, but it is currently only known to be exploitable through Safari. Kind of like you could hotwire a car (windows) if you happen to have replaced your windows with Saran wrap (Safari), and can get right through them.
Well, CNN updated the article at that link to point out that Hands-free devices WOULD be banned as well... The original version of that article stated the opposite...
It would surprise me if a ban of hands-free would pass in Congress. However, I know of at least one study on Scientific American Frontiers (PBS show with Alan Alda) concluded that driving while talking on a HANDS-FREE phone was the equivalent of driving after three drinks. (How they calibrate three drinks I don't know, cause the effects of alcohol vary based on weight, metabolism, and chronic use).
Tablet and cell phones are becoming the new post-coital cigarette.
How many of you have reach for your phone right after getting laid?
Oh, wait... this is Slashdot...
Of the twenty of you who actually get laid regularly how many of you have reached for your phone/tablet right afterwards?
I did indeed read TFA, and it was rather ambiguous as to whether the $5k per figure was for the manufacture of the figure itself, or the cost of getting it into space, or both. $4k per figure to manufacture custom figures from a material Lego does not normally deal with (aluminum) is not at all out of line.
So perhaps you should take your sarcastic tone elsewhere and read the article carefully.
I do agree the publicity is probably a good thing. However, perhaps not so much when a lot of people are questioning the necessity of a space program at all. While we geeks understand the needs, and think this is cool, the guy on the street who lost his job last week may wish those extra dollars went his way.
Assuming each of those figures is about 1 cubic inch of aluminum, and aluminum weighs in at 0.098 lb/in^3, and it costs about $10,000/lb to put something in space... then...
3 * 0.98 * $10000 = $2940 taxpayer dollars to put these things in space.
I am all for the space program, but this seems like little more than a waste of money, even if it is cool.
It's true... The market will only bear a certain price. Apple made their songs 99cents (to begin with), and broke through most of the barriers to online music sales.
People can only afford so much. At some point they may resort to theft to get what they want; the rate at which they do so is also influenced by the ease with which the theft can occur.Much less risky to pirate software then to steal a car, for instance...
Section IV, Paragraph 2 of the Apple End User License Agreement clearly states that Apple will "...maintain full or partial control (at its sole discretion) of any country, state, or municipality using Apple software, or any software acquired through the App Store (tm) to draft any founding documents, constitution, collective bargaining proposal, or policy on bottled water usage."
As a pilot I can tell you that I hear "over" only about once a year, and only when someone is repeating themselves trying to see if the other party can hear them.
Also this technology would take literally decades to work into all aircraft. Aircraft last for decades themselves, and people are not that fast to upgrade.Aviation is about what is proven to work, not the latest and great bleeding edge technology.
Well, yes... this is just poor planning o the FAA's part.I don't trust GPS to always be available. Of course your ADF can still be used to listen to AM radio (or find your way to a good radio tower...)

The POLICE is my favorite band, you insensitive clod!
Basing something on crime statistics is NOT racist. It is CRIMIST... Why do people jump to race when it comes to crime?

So far you must use Safari under Win7 64bit to exploit this. But we would never want to say anything bad about Apple, only about Microsoft...

No doubt. Drivers should be required to re-take the driving test at least every ten years, every five years once over 65...
According to CNN here: http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/13/us/ntsb-cell-phone-ban/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 the proposal would NOT ban the use of hand-free devices, or passenger cell phone usage.
Must be the pull of the North Pole influencing their moral compass...

I assume Lego Group will provide the figures for free. Not sure if they will reimburse taxpayers for the cost to put them into space.

Like Region codes for DVDs... Everybody loved those! It doesn't seem fair to pay more "because you can."
